Course OK
This course was in great shape. Relatively short in comparison to most courses I play. Helps with your confidence since you can score low based on course layout.
Idyl Wyld
Course played great. Staff was very courteous
and the course itself can be challenging
Good course for $18
The course was in good shape and well manicured. Play was exceptionally fast today. Some tough greens.
Where are the hot dogs????
My friends and I decided to go for a pleasant, relaxing round of golf on a beautiful Saturday morning. We got there early to get some practice in before our tee time.
Walking into the club house we were excited to find they had free coffee and donuts....plus! However, we didn't know that would be our only excitement about food. When we made the turn, we find out that there was not hot dogs or much to purchase.
Since we had about 15-20 mins before our tee time, we wanted to go putt for a bit while we waited on one of our friends. The whole time we were putting, we noticed two foursomes on #1 tee just waiting. We noticed no-one was in front of them so we were baffled why they weren't teeing off and getting going. Tee was getting backed up. Next thing we hear is over the loud speaker, our group was being called to #1 to tee off.....WHHHHAT!?!?! We still had 6 mins till our tee time, the groups on the tee box could have teed off! Instead we were pressured to go tee off on #1 before our tee time causing now the tee box to be backed up to 3 foursomes, very unpleasant!!!!!
We were also pressured to go to #10 tee...can I use the bathroom at least?!?! We get to the 10th tee and the foursome that was behind us on the front were waiting on the 10th tee.
Course was in decent shape, grounds were wet from some rain in prior days. Especially in some of the valleys on a few holes where our balls got plugged and we couldn't find them. It would be nice to have some yardage to water hazards on some holes where the creek cuts across. Tee boxes were a bit rough and was difficult to find a flat spot for stance.
In conclusion, the course wasn't bad, my friends had a fun time, enjoyed some cigars and the round. Cigars made everything better and I forgot about them not having hot dogs at the turn.
Won't golf here again!
Course was in terrible condition, grass way too long, not trimmed. Play was so slow we quit after playing 9 holes even though we paid for 18!
The course was way over booked and because of the soggy turf on most holes, it was cart path only which slowed down pay even more. There were about 15 people lined up waiting to tee off and no starter there to keep things organized. As a result people were not teeing off in order of tee time until a ranger finally showed up. Later I could here names being called off over the PA system as we were making the turn. The back nine was even slower so we finally got frustrated and left after the 13th hole. No tee off markers and no ball cleaners available on the entire course. If they weren't ready for golfers, they shouldn't have opened the choose for play. Very disappointing experience all around.
The course has a great bar are grill
Too late in the season to expect quality leaf pick ups at every inch of course but fairways were clean and the only time spent looking for balls was in the few congested areas of leaves that were a slice or a hook away
Good Variety at a Good Price
My wife and I played here recently and had a good time. There are quite a few holes with significant elevation changes, which was fun to navigate. A few of the tee boxes were in rough shape, but the rest of the course played well.
Great historic course and very busy
Played on a Sunday morning. The course was packed. No beer cart even after 11 due to football season. My husband was disappointed. Lots of mature trees and usually heard a ball hit by a club and then hit a tree! Felt like we had to hurry up wait and wait at times due to the busyness.
Beene playing here for over 20 years and it's still the same shabby course.
Idyl Wyld is just an average public course. Nothing special to it. Some of the tee boxes have looked god awful for years! Compare to the other Livonia courses, this one is easily the most boring, ugly, and unkempt. The greens always roll like garbage as well. It's sucks too because I want Idyl Wyld to be decent. I learned how to golf on this course through Junior leagues almost 20 years ago!
If you want to play a much better course drive to Glenhurst in Redford. All around better course.
Great Course
I have been playing Idyl Wyld for a number of years. It has always been a wonderful place to play. Only thing missing is a food cart every once in a while. But that does not take anything away from a beautiful course. I live in Detroit and this is one of the course I play in the Metro Detroit area , that I would take my out of town friends, guest and family to play.
Slow Players Tarnished Round
First time at Idyl Wyld. Course was mostly flat with some trees lining fairways and bunkers protecting greens. Greens and fairways were very well maintained.
I was playing alone and there were larger groups ahead of me (2 and 3). Finished the 7th hole behind the group's and skipped 8 and 9 to start and finish the back at a better pace. Took me around 3 hours to play 16 holes by myself, awfully slow for a single on a weekday morning.
Never Again
This is the second time I've played this course and both times the pace of play was an absolute joke. Yes, there's a ranger on duty but nothing it's ever taken care of. But my big complaint is the overall course design...if your a long hitter don't even bother. I had no choice but to use driver on their par 5's seeing as they were over 500 yds, and every good blast would land or roll into a hazard you didn't even know was there. If you played it short you would have to hit a tour caliber shot to reach and score, also leaving you NO room for error. Their greens are perfect circles with NO CHARACTER what so ever. Some are circus style with pin positions on the top of a green that slopes almost 160° downward. I'll never play here again, it's not made for long hitters or solid ballstrikers because of all the trees and misplaced hazards. Oh by the way, their tee boxes are hardpan, divot riddled slopes as well....
Great experience
Played this course for the first time with two other players. Staff was great, didn't need to use facilities and the bar was closed this day so I'm neutral. The pace of play was good, two groups ahead of us was very nice to let us go ahead of them. The condition of the course itself was above average. I'd play here again and will try the other two Livonia courses. Great rate I got on Golfnow as well.
Read my review!!!
For the money the course was great! The staff was awesome and very professional. Now! The course tried to accommodate a bachelor party on a Saturday morning and sent a six-some out and given that it was a Saturday and every tee time was booked this bachelor party group made the pace of play super slow. It took 3 1/2 hours to play 9 holes. The staff was great in handling the matter. I gave the poor rating for pace of play but it was great and the regulars even apologized and explained that it is a fun muny course to play.
Good condition for horrible weather
Rained heavily the night before but the course seemed to have drained well for 7 in the morning.
Don't waste your money!
Poorly managed course, staff indifferent, LOUSY food/snack arrangement. We're Livonia residents, but rarely play Livonia courses due to high prices (seniors) and poor service.
Single play.
Playing as a single, most golfer let me play through as the pace was still a little slow. May new golfer on the course on Sunday which may not know the layout.
I have a Great game with low score.
Thank you for your review! Glad to hear you had a nice round!
Sub-par for the course
Played on a Saturday; busy golf course should NOT allow walkers on a busy day. Pace of play was horrible due to all of the walking hackers.
The layout of the course is very small and holes are tightly packed, every hole someone could be heard shouting FORE. Take a hard hat and flak jacket if you play on a busy day.
Course is kept in decent condition for a municipal course.
Beware though- NO watercoolers at all on course, even for a hot day and cart girl only has beer and water for sale. No snack bar for hot dog or burger at the turn, just a cooler in the pro shop with drinks and candy.
For the $30 I paid on Golf Now, there are other courses in the area that provide a better value than what I paid. Will only play again as a last resort when no other courses are available....
Hi Tony,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review and we appreciate you visiting Idyl Wyld. We are pleased to hear that you found the course in good condition.
Similar to the other 2 Livonia courses, the food and beverage is not run by the course, but by the restaurants at each facility. Although it is not directly attached to the pro-shop, a full menu can be found in the same parking lot in One Under. Our apologies if you were not directed there.
We are sorry to hear that you were stuck behind some slower players, just as you will sometimes find slow golfers in carts, you will also find some walking. If you ever wish to return please give the pro-shop a call and we can better direct to a time where you will be able to zip around as a two-some quicker than mid-day on a weekend.
Thanks again!
Thank you for your review and glad you enjoyed yourself! Hope to see you again soon!
