Nice muni in a very residential neighborhood
Never played Ruth Park but finally had the chance to do so. It is tucked into the UCity neighborhood with many houses in the surrounding area. It is a fun nine-hole layout that is a challenge to walk due to the elevation changes.
The parking lot is TINY and the clubhouse is pretty small. As a true muni, not a lot of amenities. However, the gentleman working in there was extremely friendly. Instead of poles or plates for distance markers, they had “tee box balls” to mark 200, 150 and 100 yards out from the green.
Since it is an old-school layout in a small footprint of land, many fairways run right next to each other. The greens are pretty generous but are perched up, so it is difficult to run an approach shot on. A few have some serious slope to them with false fronts. No. 5 is majorly slanted from back to front, and I hit a decent chip that ran all the way off the green and down the hill about 20 yards!
The driving range is in the middle of the course so there are a lot of stray range balls on the course. No bunkers or water in play so that makes for a slightly easier layout.
The course was in pretty good shape and a bargain at $17. Will play again in the future.
Ruth Park
The course is in excellent shape. We were surprised by how well everything was maintained and looked.
Best to go to the course early or late in the day, as it gets crowded fast and then play can be slow.
Great little municipal course
Early tee time on a Saturday morning. Got paired with another single golfer. Course is in good condition especially considering the amount of play. I will definitely play again.
Best Condition Since 1960
I have been playing at Ruth Park since I was in Junior High in 1960. Although we do not live in St. Louis any longer, we visit quite often, and when I am in town I always play Ruth Park at least once. I couldn't believe how great the condition was yesterday. The zoysia fairways and tees were excellent, and the greens were close to lightening speed. Highly recommended!!!!
Best I've Seen It In 30 Years
It's not just in great shape, but it's cut like a golf course. The fairways are beautiful zoysia, and the rough is now a real rough. Even lost a ball in the first cut! Much more challenging than I've seen it in my 30 years of playing here.
Great 9 holes
This is a great course not real tough, no sand , some out of bounds but the fairways are narrow for high handicap players however a lot guys hit from your fairway back to theirs.
This is a great 9 hole course to run through
I’m playing my second season now and this is my go-to course. The layout is simple and the conditions are always great.
