Good course conditioning, not expensive, gets crowded
Ruth Park is a great layout that's well maintained. It's in a location that's easily accessible to both STL City and County residents. There's no bunkers or large water hazards, but it's still challenging with some tight driving holes and lots of uneven lies. It does get crowded, but the staff works hard to maintain tee time intervals and I almost always get through 9 holes in 2:15 (or less# walking. A couple of downsides: 1.) they have leagues throughout the week and it's almost impossible to get a tee time Mon-Fri in the after work hours. 2.) If I book through golfnow there's about a 50% chance I'll be criticized by the counter personnel for not booking through the pro shop. 3.) They always pair up groups during the busier times - which is positive in that I've met and played with some great people and it keeps up pace of play, but I've also seen my share of mentally unstable folks #i.e. last year I was put into a random foursome where one player threw his putter at someone else in the group who he claimed "was stepping in his line and working against him to sabotage his score"). Also I played last weekend, and was berated by a guy on the practice green who said that I had a lot of nerve "putting to 'his' hole, in his section of the green".
Avoid the weirdos and I'd say you've got a good chance of having a really enjoyable round.
Great place to play 9 holes
They have done a wonderful job with the course. The fairways and greens are in very good shape. Its a great way to spend 2 hrs on a sunny afternoon.
Good 9-hole course
My favorite 9, great mid-county location, can always play for $20 or less. Simple course but greens and fairways are in very good shape. Holes #3 and #5 are truly fun and challenging given the hills and sloped greens.
Easy to play about a 2-hour nine most weekdays. Weekends can be a bit slower as you occassionaly you get some beginners, but the Marshals do a good job if there is a problem.
Great Deal and Great Golf
I enjoy Ruth Park. It is wide open for even the most novice of golfers and the course is in great shape. It is a 9 hole course nestled in a neighborhood in University City where you wouldn’t think a golf course would be located. The course is very straightforward with maybe two dogleg holes on it. It has a nice little diner area and mini-pro-shop…something you wouldn’t expect from this area. The price simply could not be beat for this area. I walked all nine for $8.00 but even with a cart, it is very inexpensive. I would highly recommend this 9-hole course over any other course in the St. Louis/Creve Coeur area.
I had been wanting to play this course all year. We walked 9 holes and had a great time. Good luck finding your ball if it goes OTB.
great course, great deal, great day for golf had a good time
Best value in stl for nine holes
Corse is certrally located has narrow fairways good overall condition.
this is a fine course
this is a fine course and have good feature. it is near by and convenient. .
Nice little nine hole course
Nice nine hole course I use to get reps in. Greens are in good shape. Not too complicated.
Excellent course with speedy play
Ruth Park is a bargain as the course is well maintained and plays quickly. A great course for beginners since there is no water and little sand. My kids loved it and wanted to play another 9!
NIce, quiet round of golf
Simple to play course. Not a huge amount of hazards so very easy for a beginner to play. Very quiet during the day so not having to worry about holding others up, and being held up.
course was in very good shape.
Other than a couple groups slowing it down, it was a great value. Overall in great shape.
various hills to contend with
had a great day of golf with family and met and played with some new golfers. Course was really busy and the game flowed very nice. Also noticed there were no sand traps
Perfect place to get 9 holes in quickly
Best 9 hole course in the area. Something happened to parts of the 7th and 9th Fairways but the staff is working on getting it back in shape.
Great walking course, good speed of play, no sand.
Fairways and greens are great, distance is fine, my favorite walking course.
Great course, like/enjoy playing there
Enjoy playing at Ruth. Would reommend to anyone, value is outstanding. Greens in excellant condition. So are the fareways.
Pretty good course for the price, fun to go to every now and than for a quick round
A good course. The holes are all relatively easy but if you are looking to go out with a friend and just have a good time than its a good course. Generally the pace is about 1.5-2 hours for 9 holes depending on how many people are out. I have finished 9 in about 70 minutes when it was just me. There are no sandtraps on the course, but the course is well enough maintained that it is still fun.
Challenging for a muni
got off on time and managed to keep up pace even though the course was very busy tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition narrow fairways are offset by a couple of wide open, but long holes greens can be tricky
Good practice course
I went out and played nine holes on a Sunday evening and the course was packed. Easier course that has large fairways. The greens are challenging. I would consider it a good course to play to work the different aspects of your game, especially for beginner golfers.
Great course for the price!!!
I'm a 17 year-old who shoots in the mid 80s and I enjoyed this course. I was shocked at how cheap it was, and it was in pretty good condition. The only con is that they load up on the tee times so expect to wait on a few tee boxes unless other golfers let you play through. Other than that, it was a great course!!
5/8/2013
This is a great little 9 hole Muni course. I've played here a bunch when I'm looking to get a quick nine in. They re-did the cart paths and really have improved the conditions overall since last year.
I usually get out before work and can walk this course in an hour and a half, and for $8 from GolfNow its a great deal!
