CONDITIONS: The course was in great shape. The greens were fair and consistent. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape, as were the bunkers.
VALUE: Played on the Senior Special day, but I was about 2 decades too young to qualify. The full rate was a bit steep, but the course is well maintained and the pace was good.
LAYOUT: Played the Silver tees (6,034). The course starts with several shorter par 4s. Then the par 5s come along and try to ruin your scorecard. On the back there is a good variety of short holes that make you consider taking less than driver and longer holes that demand you keep your ball between the trees. All of the par 3s are fun, though I liked the par 5s on the front better, the one’s on the back aren’t bad. There are a lot of par 4s on this course that less than driver is the smart play… but who wants to play smart!
Took a cart for the round that I played. If you don’t mind a few short hikes between holes this course is walkable.
STAFF: The pro shop was helpful, and the starter shared some useful tips about the course.
PACE: We were a 3some on a day the course was packed. Sometimes we moved well, and sometimes there was a bit of a wait.
Hidden Gem
As they say, some people like golf but it doesn't like them. That was the case for a couple of 4 somes ahead of use which slowed things down a bit but it was a busy Saturday. Because of the drought conditions lately, the roughs are a bit brown but the rest of the course was in great shape. Absolutely worth the drive from Grand Rapids, I will play it again.
Play the Glen
I really enjoyed this course. The fairways, tee boxes and greens are in very good condition considering the near drought the area has been in. We saw the beverage cart and ranger on a regular basis. The only complaint I would have was that the pace of play was on the slow side. But like the ranger said, some people really like golf but it doesn't like them, and that can happen. Our round of 18 took 4 1/2 hours on a gorgeous day which is a bit long for a twosome but not horrible.
Fun course
I enjoy playing this course everytime I visit Michigan.
Poor pace
Friday 9:22 am tee time….didn’t get to tee off until 9:40…didn’t make the turn until noon…tried to get a rain check for the back…as we didn’t plan being onsite for 8 hours… even offered to book a tee time for the next week…they would not oblige. Won’t be going back anytime soon without planning for an entire day.
Heritage Glen
Played here for the first time with a Michigan friend. Paired up with two Michiganders. Had a great time!
Unexpected Find - Worth the Drive
First time playing Heritage Glen and although I'm two states away and a three hour drive, I'll definitely be back. It's has everything I like in a course layout and conditions and some challenges that I struggle with but appreciate and fully expect.
Most remarkable were the greens. It's obvious that the designer and his team paid extra special attention to these very fast and true greens with undulations and tiers I've experienced very rarely. They are a joy to play and well maintained by people that just have to be experts in what they do. For this time of year, I found conditions to be exceptional. The greens will take a ball mark but repair so nicely and there's this sandy, firm feel when you're doing so that just indicates intuitively that this is how greens are supposed to be.
Away from the greens the greater challenges are some thoughtfully placed, deep bunkers, with some surrounded by tall grasses. Away from the fairway is a thick, but reasonably playable rough that will absolutely test your ability to make solid contact and still have your ball flying with intended direction and distance.
This is a review where I could go on and on, but I'm not going to. You're going to like it, Just play Heritage Glen and thank me later.
P.S. All Staff encountered were very kind, cheerful, and helped to turn a good day into a great day of golf. Thank you!
Very enjoyable
The course was in very good condition and the course layout is really well done. It was a very enjoyable round of golf and I would recommend it to anyone in the area to give it a try. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
