Old Orchard Country Club
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2025.
Opened in 1929, Old Orchard Country Club has a classic design with challenges that stand up to modern golf courses. Throughout the course, you'll see traces of the site's former use as a farm. Ancient apple trees from the original orchard frame many of the holes. The diverse layout will test you with a variety of different shots but the gently rolling terrain makes for an easy walk. Skill and strategy will be generously rewarded but it's not an overly punishing layout for the high handicapper. Old Orchard's greens play true and fast and they are often flanked with strategically positioned bunkers. A stream wanders through the golf course, coming into play on several holes. Golfers will face a tricky island green on the par-5 seventh hole as well as an almost-island green on the par-4 13th.

Enjoyed a great day of golf & lunch
Had a great time I shot a good score and had a great lunch at the halfway house
Enjoy coming back to our favorite place to play
Kurt & Kathy
Don't waste your time
Fairway are not distinguishable, bunkers are that 70% claylike dirt and very old sand mix, making them like rocks. Like alot of NJ courses the price to play is outrageous. This course is a dump that I would not play again for free.
Nice course
Enjoyed our round. Was slow for the first 6 holes and then the ranger came out and let us play ahead of a slow foursome in front of us. We will be back
Sunday round
Good deal on golf now. Could be decent course but need some "tlc". Ok layout but flat and straight. Very little elevation. Some greens in tough shape. Convenient to our home but monmonuth county courses so much better for the same money.
Avoid for now
The course has a pretty good layout. Though there are a couple of large nets on a couple of holes. The condition is pretty poor. There were times I was on the fairway and it was like being in the rough in other courses. There are portions of some greens that have no grass.
I fell for the photos
The online photos looked great. The staff couldn't be more friendlier, and on a Sunday morning we played in less than four hours. The course was in terrible condition. Tees, greens, rough and bunkers in need of attention. It's a great $30.00 course. At $70 it's not worth the price.
Very disappointed
The course was in very poor shape. Crabgrass abound. Pace of play was poor. Was very disappointed.. The bunkers were very poorly maintained with most not having any sand at all.
Nice layout, fun to play
Course condition was excellent. Greens in terrific shape and consistent in speed. Loved the layout; plenty of variety, calls for you to use all your clubs . My only complaint is with the bunkers; most need renovation and new sand. I am looking forward to bringing buddies to play.
Sooo disappointed
I heard this course got a lot of play on it, so I knew it would be choppy in spots, but this was terrible. Fairways were hit or miss per hole on the condition of them, rough was like crabby, bunkers were not raked and there was no sand. Greens were a mess, spongy and unkept def not rolled - it's sad because I know a ton of people play there, I thought the course would be maintained better and especially for the price, it's one of the cheaper, but still ain't worth it - if they dedicate to maintaining the course all year round - this place has a lot of potential
Father's Day delight
I rarely write reviews but I felt it necessary to respond to a negative review written by someone also playing on that day. I had a mid morning tee time and was expecting a late start since it was Father's Day, but to my surprise, I tee off right on time. The staff was pleasant and when they found out my son was taking out for the day, wished me a happy Father's Day. Pace was not a issue. Father's Day is one of the busiest day of the season. We played in 4 1/2 hrs. Great day
Enjoyed playing
I'm visiting from NC and was quite hesitant to play Old Orchard after reading the review written on June 17th. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised. I found the course to be in good condition and the staff welcoming and friendly. Grass was short where it is supposed to be and you can find your ball in the rough. The greens roll slower than I'm used to but are in very good condition. There are plenty of Igloo water coolers around the course as well as clean indoor restrooms and a snack/beverage stand easily accessible on front and back. Bunkers appeared to be sand rather than dirt as someone else described. Greens fees with cart for Seniors (60 +) are extremely reasonable. I definitely recommend this course. The building exteriors need some cleaning up but interiors are well kept.
Thee Worse
Bad bad course. 1st fairway was the clue. All torn up. Then on every hole the trash was overflowing onto the cart path. The greens were the slowest I've played EVER! The pace of play was unreal and to make matters worse after 2 1/2 hours we made it to the turn and the 2 rangers were hanging out on their cellphones. The starter put out two groups of two instead of making them a foursome. We played as three and waited on every shot. Impossible to get into any kind of rhythm at such a slow pace. The sand bunkers were not sand but dirt to top it all off. Just a bad bad course. Not worth half of what we paid.
This is one of the best golf deals in the area
Love the course
Good condition and really nice greens
Staff is also very nice & friendly
My wife and I find this course very enjoyable
Kurt & Kathy Buck
Sunday play
Great time at the course with my buddy
Course was in good shape the greens were also in good shape
Very slow
This year the issue was with the pace of play. We played in 5 hours ! Plenty of rangers out on the course but the majority of the hung out by the half way house not moving groups along. Last year the course conditions played a part in the problem. I feel everytime you come here you will experience some sort of trouble.
Great value for the price of $15.00
Course conditions were just OK, but considering the fact that they have been poor in years past, it was enjoyable. Course needs a lot of work n a serious infusion of money to bring course back to its old self. It really needs a whole new makeover!
Great course
My only issue is lack of signage there were a few holes where you weren't sure which way the green was... but honestly lots of fun.
