Fun track, small, tricky greens is the challenge
The course layout is pretty good. The key challenge isn't getting the ball in play, but getting it on to smallish greens which have a lot of movement. Only a few holes have water, with a creek which runs though the course and 1-2 ponds which are present - otherwise not a lot of water. Course can get windy. Played multiple times and wind is often a factor.
Employees aren't overly friendly - i'm not a member just a guest but played there multiple times - a few of them could use a lesson or two in customer service. It doesn't cost anything to be friendly and jovial. This course used to cost $90 only a 4-5 years ago, and they keep raising prices every year - now it costs $125 to play. Most rounds you aren't waiting very long - good pace of play. They have a bar and restaurant for golfers. Mostly average-to-above average bar food. This place isn't fancy. Most of the members here love to gamble - a lot.
Only minor issue I have is they removed water coolers during Covid and never replaced it. It's now 2024, maybe time to bring back the water coolers between 14th and 15th hole?
Their driving range is irons only. If they were smart they would put up netting around the driving range. They have plenty of room for drivers to hit, just need to add nets to contain the drives.
50% of their cart paths are in dire need of repaving. Also, the wood plank bridge on the 15th to 16th hole needs to be replaced or the planks fixed. Feels like a plank is about to break loose every time you go across it.
You can walk the course but they don't allow for hand carts, even on days when the course is cart path only. To me, that's just ridiculous especially when it's a "cart path only" day due to weather.
Otherwise it's a mostly enjoyable course. If you are interested in joining, from what I understand there's a $10,000 bond to join and yearly costs are $10,0000 for members. 4-5 years ago there wasn't a bond and it cost $7000 a year to be a member. I'm a guest and play there a few times a year, so it's what I heard. If you are thinking of joining here - you really have to love golf and love to gamble. There's no pool, tennis, pickleball - just golf.
Old school course
Jumping Brook has to be one of the most underrated courses in New jersey . Play requires accurate and consistent shot making as one errant shot can easily cost you two or more strokes . It's a private facility so if you're a golf enthusiast and have an invitation to play you should jump on the opportunity .
