Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Lakeview/Clubview Course
About
Water comes into play on six holes on the Lakeview nine at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, which is located in northwest New Jersey approximately an hour from New York City. None is more challenging than the closing hole, a very short -- but very intimidating -- par 3 over water. The Byron Phoebus design opened in 1965.

Beautiful Course to Work on Your Game
This is not a hard course, Unless you can't hit them straight. Water comes into play on 13 of the holes. And the rough is really tough to hit out of.
As a result, this is a course that will punish you if you lose focus on your game. While it's true that there are parallel fairways that give you a chance to recover from a slice, the trees and the rough guarantee that recovery is not going to be easy.
But the darn course is so pretty, that you almost don't care. And the price, oh my, the price is just really really sweet.
So I strongly recommend that you go to this course when you want to work on your game.
This is not a hard course, unless you don't hit them straight.
One of the Better Tracks in Sussex County
Other than really slow greens (I guess they are trying to get them firmly established) the course was in great shape.
There are 27 holes, 3 quite different 9's. Two of them end with par 3's over water, but overall a pleasant golf course. It gets a lot of play with many golfers driving from Bergen, Essex, etc counties to play here.
The round took over 5 hours. They desperately needed a ranger out there.
course in great shape, people very healpfull
They need rangers out there. Our four sum played behind a four sum playing from the Tips. They didn't belong there. Waited every shot . After 14 holes and 4hrs 20 min we packed it in and left course
One of best course in north jersey
We have been playing at farmstead for over 5 years, our favorite course to play, play this course more then any other every year.
Also very beautifully landscaped and food is good
A very forgiven course.
Very nice course and facilities. Great course for beginners and intermediates. Very few trees and fairways are wide, so it's ideal area for golfers who sometimes slice or hooks. Lots of water areas and the sand traps were well taken cared for. Actually soft loose sand. Started play around noon and course wasn't crowded. Staff left golfers alone because there were no major back ups. Unfortunately, a lot of geese and their byproducts but that seems to be a problem currently at all courses. Also saw large turtles crossing fairways to get to a different water area.
Great course conditions.
I enjoy playing Farmstead and will continue to go back.
Decent, but not nice
This was an okay course. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping it was going to be nicer from the decent rating on golfnow. The rough was long, not long like challenging long, but long like it was never cut. The fairway wasn't much better. The greens didn't roll too well, a couple were pretty beat up. I did play extremely poorly on the front so maybe I'm a little bitter, plus I got paired up with a guy who was not pleasant, and another guy and his son. It just wasn't that nice. But I guess you get what you pay for. Any green fee over $30 would be wasted. Go play a nicer course.
Great Course!
This course is in good shape. There was some water on the first 3 holes, just because of some rain and no sun to dry it up, but other than that the course was in great shape for the 1st week being open! Greens are well kept and true to lines and speed.
I was paired up with another guy and we finished the round in 3.5 hours. Not bad for a 2-some. There was a 3-some ahead of us that let us play through too. All in all, great day for golf! I'll be back again!

Excellent condition this early in the season.
Greens were 'rolling'.
Best course in New Jersey
We Love this course and play as often as possible. My son was in town this week for Christmas and as a bonus the temperature cooperated enough we were able to play the day after. We played valley to club and we love the views. Deer, swans, turkeys, bluebirds, woodpeckers and a blue heron within feet are the bonus during a great day of golf! Played fast and the staff are amazing. Be sure to give the owners pup a kiss from us when you visit!
Farmstead Veterans Day 2014
Course in great condition and service was great checking in, friendly starter and super service and food in the clubhouse. Lots of leaves but it's autumn and staff was on the course doing their best!
Nice Layout
We had a 4 some playing from the sr. tees. It was great! How often do you get a chance to hit a par5 green in two (not that any of us did) but it's neat to at least have the opportunity. Course was relatively crowded and the group in front of us slowed us down. We had to wait on every tee and second shot. But it was a decent day and we enjoyed ourselves. The 19th hole wasn't serving that day but we enjoyed a beer down the road.
This course was very scenic.
The course was beautiful at this time of year and in great condition. The tee times were right on schedule, but the pace of play was atrocious. We were not able to finish our round due to darkness .
Beautiful Setting
All around great day. Got paired with friendly fun people. Course is in great shape.
Great Course, but poor etiquette players on the course.
Had a great time! the course is in great condition. its forth time playing this season and will go back before the end of the season. The foursome in front of us were drinking a lot beers and one of the man took of his pants off and the other three were laughing. As a man I understand having a good time in the course with friends, but the course is a public place and such irresponsible action should be not be tolerated. I was playing with my wife and there were other women playing near by. There were no rangers around to move the slow play or to complain about their conduct.
A Great Start to Columbus Day
We get to play Farmstead several times a year and it's always a pleasure. The course conditions on this Columbus Day Monday were exceptional. The fairways and greens were in great shape and clear of leaves which is a remarkable feat. Our group was running a little late for our tee time due to some unexpected traffic and we called the pro shop enroute to inform that we would most likely miss our scheduled time. The front desk and the starter couldn't have been more accommodating in moving around another foursome and getting us out on the course within minutes of our arrival. Really very nice. No holiday rates, just the normal very reasonable greens fees. It's a great value for your dollar. I highly recommend Farmstead to golfers of all skill levels.
great day
nice golf course, nice people great value. the deer are all over the course which adds to playing in the woods. well kept course, greens are in good shape.
always a pleasure
well looked after you can tell the owner is always around
Farmstead is a great value.
Farmstead us usually a great value course. Style is a little dated but the course can be challenging with lots of water and some long par 3s . Greens are usually in good shape, although they were working on two holes so there wasn't any putting on the temporary greens. Still the best value in the area by far.
Excellent Layout
Friendly staff (in pro shop & starter); tees & fairways were in fair condition; greens were slow; however, the layout is very well-done - I was paired with 2 guys who were neophytes, but, we had a good time during the round. I played here many times in 2013 and just a couple of times previously this year, when the course conditions were much better. Not sure why things were "off" yesterday - a little more care afforded to the greens & fairways would have made it an A+ experience.
