Where is the next tee box ?
Easy to get lost between tee boxes if its your first time there. But the fairways and greens was good
Great Course
Somehow I booked a 5:01 AM tee time through this website instead of a 1:01 PM tee time. The employees were super friendly and were still able to get us on. We saw lots of wildlife including deer. The cart paths are a little wonky and the course is naturally hill. I would still recommend this course and will be returning this summer.
First 9 good, back 9 not so much
The front nine holes of Afton is a nice run. Not very memorable, but in good shape and well maintained. I know many locals will only play the front and replay it if they want to get in 18. The back nine is not particularly well designed. You get the impression that they needed another nine holes, had this ski hill and made the best layout they could given the terrain. Still, I felt it was a real bargain, and worth the money. The staff is very friendly there, pace was excellent, and the course is usually not crowded on weekdays. I should note that this course was not affected as much by “winter kill” as many of the other area courses.
Excellent outdoor adventure
The front nine plays like a normal course and is a good challenge.
The back nine is in the ski bluffs facing the St. Croix River.
It is beautiful. Yes, there is ski lift infrastructure on the back nine which can get get in the way of making a good shot. But it is still a challenge and fun to play!
Just think of the back nine as target practice and play up golf.
Overall Good Course
The front nine is super easy, which is a nice warm up.
The back nine is a bit more challenging and scenic.
Overall, pretty goo value and definitely a change of atmosphere from a normal course.
Close and fun
I have played Afton a few times now and I keep coming back for the challenge and the friendly staff. It has lots of blind shots and elevation changes which make it a challenge for any one. The course was in good shape and there is lots of scenic views.
Great front nine and funky back
Please with the first nine. Great condition on fairway and greens. Back nine is average condition.
Beautiful Fall Colors and Course
We enjoyed playing the open front 9 and the picturesque back nine - like two different experiences but both great!
Great course for the money
I'm a newer golfer and have a very busy life. this course is quiet to relax and gives you a good challenge of needing to have control of your shot and picking the right club especially on the back 9 where the greens can be surrounded by drop offs that if your off by a little your needing to take a drop. I'd recommend for anyone who's looking for a good course at an affordable price.
Soccer or golf course
This course has forgotten about the golfer. We were five holes in to the round when we were asked to hurry up. Keep in mind we were ahead of pace. A few holes later we had to wait for a group of soccer golfers playing thru our fairway. This course is so poorly set out you have to carry a zerrox copy of notes they hand out to have any idea where to go. Very disappointed in this course. Will not play there again.
Good Variety
The front nine is a lot of back-and-forth golf. Not much trouble and not much to think about - just hit your drives far and have a wedge in on your approach.
A lot of people complain about the back nine, but if you consider it a short course back 9, it's a lot of fun. Lots of tricky shots and great rolling hills.
Long Course, Nice Views, Not your Average Snooty Golf Club
This course is managed by Vail Resort's who own Afton Alps Ski Hill and Training Center in Afton as well as many other much larger Skiing Resorts on Mountains in various states. Keep that in mind when you go to play a course at their ski hill. Its a nice course in my opinion. The Staff is all very friendly and down to earth, prices weren't bad for a round with a cart. The drink wagon made multiple rounds to make sure we were taken care of. The course isn't a super high tier course but it allows for a more laid back game of golf, one that you would bring your friends out to just simply have a good time and not be hassled by the more serious golfers who get angered at the inconvenience of having to wait for people. I like this course because the back 9 are along the tops of the ski-hills that I used to ski on back in the day and the views are magnificent! I will definitely be back for more.
