Prestwick Golf Club at Wedgewood

First time playing the course and I was really impressed by the course conditions and layout. Greens were great and rolling very true. Lots of sand traps (no rakes...darn Covid) and fair amount of water hazards. Landing areas seemed generously wide. Carts with GPS were nice. You get what you pay for and I’d gladly pay a few extra bucks to play this course again over some others that might be $10-20 cheaper but don’t give you nearly the same quality experience.

Finally had a chance to play and was very pleased with my experience here at Prestwick. Course was in very solid condition, greens while not at 100% according to my playing partner (a regular member) rolled perfectly as long as your putt was on line. Pace of play on the front 9 was quick considering a completely full tee sheet, but got stacked up on the back 9. That said we still finished our round in just a little over 4 hours. Would certainly recommend this course and will play it again sometime soon. Covid CDC guidelines in effect so no access to the restaurant for after-round drinks and snacks, but looked like a beautiful patio.

First time out and had nothing to complain about. Can't wait to get back and play again.

I have zero issues with paying $90+ for a quality course. Prestwick is simply not worth it. Bald spots in the fairway, hairy greens and 4+ hour rounds. Lower the cost of a round because you're getting too big for your britches.

I have played at this course for almost 30 years. Fabulous layout, nice amenities etc. I stepped away from the game for about 5 years due to shoulder injuries but finally back. My in-laws we’re visiting from Atlanta so thought good time to take my father-in-law out to play golf. I selected Prestwick based on my experience several years ago - not a good decision. The course was nothing like I remember. From the practice range to the practice green to the course itself, complete disappointment. The range was extremely rough, seemed like the maintenance crews felt the grass would some how repair itself. The practice green was certainly no better.

Once on the course, nothing changed. Fairways and greens were horrible. Had to roll the ball all day long to get a reasonable lie - not something I would expect for a $90 fee. Once on the greens, it was rare if we ever had a single putt that rolled smoothly. It was more like a MN roadway after a long winter..Sand traps had really hard sand and in several traps, the mesh underlayment was sticking up.

Bottom line I like proximity to my home but am so disappointed in how the course has been maintained. Going forward, I will tKe my $90 elsewhere.

Prestwick Golf Club is a public daily fee course with a definite country club feel. The street leading to the club is lined with enormous upscale homes, and the first view of the clubhouse surrounded by well-tended flower beds and shrubbery might have you thinking you took a wrong turn and ended up at the local country club. Five sets of tees ranging from 6,876 yards to 5,295 make the course accessible to a wide range of golfers, but that doesn't mean it's easy. We played the white tees at 6,374 and found the course to be moderately difficult, with fast, subtly breaking greens protected by numerous bunkers, about a dozen ponds scattered throughout the course, and lots of really well-placed fairway bunkers. The fairways were smooth and well-manicured, set on rolling terrain with some elevation changes, nothing really severe. Rough was deep enough that our foursome was unable to find a few balls that strayed off the fairway. Set in the middle of an upscale housing development, the course has houses adjoining many of the fairways, close enough that OB in someone's back yard is a definite possibility on several holes. Even with the houses visible throughout the course, it is still a very attractive track. One hole that stands out is the dogleg left 8th hole. From an elevated tee, you see the fairway set at an angle and a large pond running parallel to it that must be carried to reach the fairway. The hole is only 321 yards from the white tees, so longer hitters can carry the entire pond to set up a wedge approach. Others will take a safer, shorter bite of the pond and have a mid-iron shot to the green. The 9th hole is a par 5 with a pond protecting the green. A second shot that goes too far left will leave an approach that must carry the pond in order to reach the green. Keep your second shot to the right and you'll have a more comfortable approach with the pond on your left. Green fees at Prestwick are more than comparable courses like Eagle Valley, but less than StoneRidge. It's a good value for a pleasant golfing morning or afternoon.

There was a big cup and a normal cup on each hole. Different color flags at first, but some holes had two white flags. There was a starter at the first tee. We told him we hadn't played the course before. He didn't inform us about the two pins on each green. Wasn't sure if that was a temporary thing or just normal for the course. Nice layout.

This is a great golf course! The greens are perfect! Elevated tees show you the entire hole. Can play the black tees at 6900 or move up to four others. Water on several holes. Staff is very friendly! Food at Osteria restaurant is excellent, especially the pasta. This is a hidden gem in the Twin Cities!
