Good experience
I love the course and staff overall. However, I do not feel they do a good job of managing pace of place and behavior. I play at least 2 times a week and often find people taking way too long between shots and not being considerate. In addition, they do not say anything when players are intoxicated and being outright stupid yelling and cursing. I also will never purchase anything from the person between the 9th and 10th hole. I have never scene her serve food with gloves and since COVID-19 no masks.
Funky but fun
Rather short, especially the front 9. Plenty of “ball above your feet” lies. Not overly difficult greens. But it is a quirky fun course to play. The back 9 has some really tough par 4’s. Greens are in decent shape considering the amount of play.
Staff there is great.

Course and greens above average condition. Just the right amount of ruff; not bare around greens and off fairway like some other Westchester courses.
Not overly challenging, not too long. Perfect for average player. Staff is AWESOME !!

Always a fun course to play!
In very good shape for the end of the season. A bright sunny day is always going to pull the players at this time of year.
Only got 6 holes in due to the slow pace of play but we all had fun and fees were very reasonable!

Good value for the price.
It was a very nice autumn Saturday , everything was terrific , sadly the 2- 4 somes in front of us were very poor golfers , killed us . Only - barely got 16 holes in.

watch out for overbooking!
75 degrees in November 1:33 tee time did not start till after 2:00 could only play 13 holes. Better than not playing but those behind me couldn't be to happy.

This course is beautiful however the pace of play is very slow, 4-5 hours. Staff is friendly and the food at the restaurant was delicious

Poor administration

Underrated ...
I heard it was a dog track and tbh it was thoroughly enjoyable. The general conditions were great, esp for this time of year. It’s a short course but with a sophisticated layout. You really can’t hit driver on a lot of holes without bringing big trouble into play. With all the bridges, and ravines, and swamps ... it was reminiscent of a Pete Dye design. Like a baby Pound Ridge.
Now, for the critical: like other munis in the area, the greens are a bit furry, inconsistent, and often did not roll well. But to sprain lake’s peers, sprain lake does shine. It’s just impossible to rate the greens above a 3 where peer courses are a definite painful 1 or 2. For credits’ sake, these greens had some serious slope tho. You couldn’t just whack and go, lest you face a negative outcome.
Net net, great value and enjoyable. Very little to complain about. Pace of play was ok - 4.5hrs.

Great course. No wonder I can’t ever get a tee time
Beautiful course right along the Sprain reservoir. Too bad the city drained the reservoir to do some work on it.
Been wanting to play this course for so long but could never get a tee time since I always book sort of last min. You have to book this place about 4 days in advance or so.
We had a slow group in front of us so the pace wasn’t great. The course is well maintained which I was very happy to see.

Sprain Lake
Course was in great shape.
Even with leaves falling fairways were pretty clean.
Carts were cleaned immediately after round and staff wore masks when necessary.
