Fairways poor
Greens are in mostly decent condition but the fairways and rough are in very poor condition. Like about 50% grass coverage and the rest is either dirt or very thin grass coverage.
Then and now
Ambiente has always been a favorite of mine so was somewhat disappointed in the current conditions. Greens were nowhere close to good. Several had large dead spots on them and most had random patches of poa. All in all not what you’d expect from a premium priced course. That said still had a great time and always love the feel, vibe and layout of Ambiente.
Fun course
Course conditions weren’t great but had an awesome time playing this course. It’s a really fun course to play. Would play here again for sure.
Padre
Overall recommendation is good and worth the money.
Beautiful Course
Loved playing the Padre course. Great layout with various types of holes throughout. There is plenty of water for a AZ course but it is a very player friendly layout. The course conditions were fantastic, greens were firm and true. There was a tournament here the two days we played and you wouldn't know it by pace of play or the course. The Padre was very impressive. Lunch at the clubhouse was good too.
On course amenities
Bev cart closed by 3:30 and the snack shack was also closed early.
Very poor course conditions for the money!
More than half the greens were dead and basically painted and fairways were thin and poor. Apparently overseeing went badly, but not worth the price.
Great Course
For the most part the course was in very shape but a few of the fairways were in spotty shape. The layout and atmosphere made up for this.
Buzz kill!
This is a course I always wanted to play… very disappointed when I got there range was closed couldn’t warm up course conditions were very poor nothing has been maintained has a great layout, but patchy grass everywhere. Greens were in horrible shape, fairways missing, decent grass having to move ball to hit off grass in the middle of the fairway. Very expensive and you feel like you’re playing rundown municipal course… there’s plenty of beautiful courses in the area for less money.. I feel like it’s running off its old reputation.
Love this track!
This a great layout! 10 holes out and 8 holes back the other way like a links course. Yeah there are some knocks about the quality of the grass in the fairways and poa on the greens. Most of the fairways are really good…if you are in a bad spot in a fairway, improve your lie. Poa on the greens is mainly around the edges of the greens so not a problem as the greens run true and there aren’t any difficult contours or slopes. It is a track a good player can score on and not too difficult for an average player.
Overpirced for the experience
I understand that it is the busy season in Scottsdale but we paid the twilight rate of $180 for a 1:12 tee time. Normal price was $280.
While course itself was in nice condition the layout was nothing spectacular. It is located off of the JW Marriot property but was actually an older country club marketed as their courses.
The major complaint was the pace of play. We had GPS monitors on our carts that were constantly popping up messages that we were behind schedule and a marshal would be out yet we never saw one as we waited between 5-10 minutes on every tee box for the group in front of us. We are all around 10 handicaps and understand there are varying levels of ability, but there is also an consideration factor for other golfers on the course. Our issue was that the course appeared to be very well managed with staff yet did nothing to ensure the pace of the group in front of us which led to a 5 1/2 hour round. It was unfortunate that we were out there for two days and this was one of the courses we played.
Disappointing condition
Worn out/damaged/thin areas on most fairways. Had to move the ball and play preferred lies. The greens had significant clumps of poe annua grass which affected putting, especially by mid day. Great layout tho, but really unfortunate. Had played this course once before. Was really disappointed with the condition of what is supposed to be a premier course. Until this course has maintenance and condition issues fixed, will not play again.
