Good not great shape
I’ve played Ambiente in the past ( the better of two courses on the property). The green complexes have several thin spots. The greens are very average compared to years past with 2 or three with severe disease.. still a nice course but not in as good shape as years past
Ambiente greens are very poor.
For some reason, they just can't keep the greens at Ambiente in good shape. A lot of it is just poor greenskeeping as old holes have massive dips on the green. Fairways are so-so with patches of muddiness and dead grass. The practice green was in great shape and I believe Padre is in good shape. Ambiente needs a ton of work, especially for the greens fee.
spectacular views and top-notch golf
Played with my sister-in-law, who had never played desert golf in the past. We played with a lovely couple that are members at Camelback. The pace of play was great and the course conditions were as they should be for the price paid. That said the course was in excellent condition!
Great track!
I played the Padre course for the first time. It’s a great track! I had played the Ambiente course twice before, and now prefer the Padre course. Both courses are fun, and very different. Staff are great!
Long time favorite- first time disappointment
Such a great course as my valley favorite as a long time local however they are loosing my favorite status not due to staff nor course layout but maintenance v costs.
They know this and my remarks are not nor should be a surprise as a well manage property but somebody above is cutting budgets to improve profitability to make themselves shine !
The best greens usually on condition coupled with rolling at 10 plus is gone with excellent speed , lack consistency as well as patchy , bear conditions, green filler for bare areas, on numerous greens - disease/poor oversight from greens keeping/ can’t say who’s at fault - shameful.
Course sand traps v costs to play needs a lot of budgeting without further play price increase as these costs should be built into there reserve studies under applicable maintenance over the course of maintenance reviews. - well past the spend required to refresh -
Very good track
Course is in excellent condition. Large driving range and overall excellent practice area. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend it.
Why you come to Az for golf
This is a top notch facility with beautiful vistas often containing the majestic Camelback Mountain. If you want to experience Arizona golf with the challenge of sandtraps, water and natural desert landscape, this Padre course is a must play. Not to mention the pregame driving range and short game areas to warm you up at no extra charge. I travelled from Canada to play here and was not disappointed.
Awesome
10 min tee time intervals and plenty of twosomes, first course that I've played that wasn't fully booked and we got done in under 4 hours on the weekend.
Amazing views of Camelback Mountain, super smooth fast greens. Fun holes - doglegs, long carry to fairway, long holes, short holes (target practice), well placed bunkers (plenty of sand), elevation changes. Interesting and challenging but not too difficult.
Carts had GPS, course had a practice range for use before round. Was not cart path only. There were actual different cuts of grass here (fairways and rough), not the one cut semi-rough everywhere else. Water provided in cart, several filtration stations throughout the course, nice restrooms and clubhouse, friendly staff.
Wish they had a frequent golfer program like other courses in the area where people would enjoy reduced rates for being members - would sign up in an instant.
Decent course, harder than it looks
Showed up as a single it was paired up with some nice guys, they were older and were playing the tan tees, which I thought were a bit short, but I played them anyway. Much to my surprise it was plenty, I’m at eight handicap and ended up shooting an 85 so well above my handicap. Could never get the fast green speeds down, some greens very undulating. Like I said, harder than it looks. Muddy in some spots due to lots of watering. Layout a bit odd in some places but the signs keep you directed.
