Disappointing
I've heard a lot about this course, up there with the best in the valley. It was beautiful as far as landscape, which is to be expected in the north valley area. The course was in terrible shape, however. We started off the 10th and the fairways and greens were brown. The rough was no better. We only paid $94 a piece which would have been a good deal if the course was in decent shape.
It was only myself and a friend. We are in our high 20s early 30s. The group ahead of us was only two people, yet for some reason we were paired with another group. It was an early afternoon tee time, so we assumed any extremely serious golfers would have been off in the morning. It was a couple well into their 70s. I wouldn't normally care, but the fact that the group ahead of us was a twosome made us wonder why we were paired at all. Aside from golf, we had nothing in common with this couple that we were paired with and it was a shame. I can't say that the course should ask for ages beforehand, but there's no way the starter thought that it was a good pairing, especially considering how slow the course was at this point.
All in all, a disappointing day that did not allow for us to enjoy ourselves on a golf course because of an avoidable situation.
South course
Incredible views, great layout, awesome greens. Played blue tees, course is tight and tough to decide on shot to hit at times due to lack of GPS on carts. Otherwise first rate track wanted to go right back out and play it again now that I have an idea what shot is called for knowing the course a little better. If I hit lotto this is the club I would join. Top two of golf courses I have played in valley in 23 years playing here.
Beautiful scenery
This is a very picturesque course. Play was around 4.5 hours, it backed up the last 5 or 6 holes. The greens were fair and ran true. The greens are very well bunkered , some very deep. Entering can be costly. A tough course for a high handicapper, not for the distance , but due to all the bunkering. However the landscape and scenery is worth a visit.
Should play if you can afford it
Great course. Found it to be fairly challenging. Beautiful course. Well maintained. Grass was solid.
Pace of play was good. Cart path only at the time we played maybe slowed things down a bit. Would recommend to anyone who could afford it.
over seeding, cart path only
I enjoyed the course but with cart path only the round took 5 hours, we teed off at 1:00 and almost did not finish
Not Bad, not inspiring
Played the North Course on a Saturday. Was told it was in excellent shape and were expecting to see a lot of green. We must be spoiled in Wisconsin as we have a very different definition of green in this state.
Very playable track and played with a 1 handicap who from the middle tees could not use driver. From the back tees, a long hitter can hit away and not have any real issues as long as they know where the fairways and doglegs end. The front 9 greens are fortified with plenty of deep bunkers and if you catch one, you have to be a good bunker player to save par. There wasn't much sand in the bunkers so getting out was a challenge. They also appear to have lessened the bunkering on the back 9 as I noticed a few spots where they replaced the bunkers with grass (not complaining as I found plenty on the front). You have a mountain view on the front 9 but none on the back 9. It was a nice mix of thinking golf and stupid golf as I like to say.
The scenery wasn't inspiring but I think that is reserved for the more re-known South course which was closed for reseeding.
Great staff and I would come back to give the South course a try. Looks like a great resort for a weekend getaway as that's exactly what my playing partner and his wife were doing that weekend.
Disappointing......North Course
I understand this time of year most courses in the area are going into the overseeding, but this course was in poor shape. Luckily we found a deal on GolfNow for $55, I feel sorry for the golfers that paid the $140+ to play this course. Many blind tee shots, this course you would need to play a few times before you get a feel for it. Stay away for now, hopefully it bounces back after the overseeding.
Quick round of 3.5hrs, as the course was dead.
The cool photos of all the rock formations around the property are on the South Course...... which unfortunately was closed at the time
North course
All round good experience, outdoor staff very helpful and accommodating. Fairways and greens good condition. Not many players so just over 3 hr round for 2 ball
Repeat player
We played a few years back, and decided to stop in and play it again - and are glad we did. Course was in great shape, fairways to greens. Really enjoyed the variety of tee and approach shots, and will all greens in mountain areas, reading breaks is always a fun challenge. All the staff was pleasant. However, given the hot day, the beverage cart person could have come by a bit more frequently.
Best Value in Town
This is the best summertime value in Phoenix. Course is impeccable and always in good shape.
A mix of the North and South. Views are beatiful and the course was in great shape. Should have had a hole layout book as many of the holes with the elevation changes and doglegs present hidden challenges.
Most Epic Course in Arizona
This was the most epic course in Arizona, so gorgeous and so challenging!
Great Desert Golf Course
Great, friendly staff. Course is beautiful and a great example of a desert golf course. If you like desert golf, this corse should definitely be on your list of places to play.
Excellent as Usual
Played South course which is very scenic. Course in very good shape with a few rough areas around the greens.
Highly recommend this course.
