Canyon Course...tee off towards Camelback Mtn. Photo submitted by u000001276894 on 09/24/2012
desert /canyon
The desert course greens were in poor shape while the canyon was much better not sure why as I've played here before. Pace was fine as they have a ranger to check for slow play.
A good golf experience
A super course with great service and a challenge for club golfers.
10 dollar hot dog
Course Good food and drinks not nice too expensive
Great condition, tight layout
My wife and I played the course for the first time. The course conditions were excellent - grass was in great shape for the end of the high season. It was difficult to follow the course direction and know what to expect. This led to several delays going up to scout whet the next shot should be. The course is to some extent 'shoehorned' in to a small area so fairways are adjacent to each other. Course is short, so the tight conditions and difficult greens offer the course protection. Hole 8 on the Desert 9 was restricted to the front tees which was disappointing. Price seemed slightly high for the layout. Still had a good time and would play again as it should be much more playable once you know the layout.
Beautiful Venue
This is a "must play"..........................................
Cool Views
Pace was a little slow on the back, but being a weekend that is pretty normal. Greens is great shape. Cool views of the city, Camelback and Tempe from the Canyon nine
Good course with some spectacular views
Played Desert/Canyon nines on a gorgeous Friday a.m. - course was crowded but pace was fine (4.5 hrs). Desert by far the best nine with some incredible views from the side of Camelback Mtn., Canyon course was good but holes not quite as interesting as Desert. Course was in great shape. Resort itself was beautiful, but F&B prices on course were ridiculous ($6 for an Arnold Palmer). Paid $120 which was in line with rates for that time of year for that caliber of course (a notch below the high end public courses like Troon North and Grayhawk). Don't be fooled by shorter yardage - it's a challenging par 70.
Groomed to Perfection
Brought my teenage son out for his first round of desert golf. This place is simply beautiful. But be prepared for a tough test of golf. Don't get suckered into to playing the tips either - the elevation changes, some tight spots where you can't hit driver, and the par of 70 make it play much longer. Move up a tee box and have a great time.
Excellent conditioned course
This course was in absolutety excellent condition!
I did find it played a little shorter than I would have liked but there was good challenge around the greens
The resort itself was great staff very friendly and helpful
dont play on St. Paddy's day
Course was in very good shape and the play for first nine was under 2 hours. Caught up to a shotgun group celebrating St. Patrick's day at the turn and the play slowed to almost a 3 hour back nine. Quit and got a refund. Staff was very accommodating.
Nice place. Great views.
Primo course in top condition!
Tough. Don't look at yardage, look at slope.
Great views from a couple pars threes that are greatly elevated.
Played less than splendidly(85) from back tees. My fault. Like to break 80 here.
The course has great features
A beautiful course, the staff was very friendly and played in less than 4 hours 15 minutes. The view around the course was great.
great trac
In great shape; got good deal on golf now, good greens, nice views
Beautiful golf course
The golf course is beautiful and was in great shape. The setting is beautiful. Refreshment carts came around frequently. The lady in the pro shop was very professional and friendly.
A very nice course
I have played the phoenician numerous times and it did not let me down again.
course was in very good shape, greens smooth and rolled true.
value for the dollar spent is good.
I ate at the restaurant at the resort and that is very pricey. The buffet was not worth $29 in my opinion.
Paired up with a good group made for a good day
beautiful grounds
course is in great shape. Generally plays short, but has a lot of challenges around the greens. The soft sand in green side bunkers takes some adjusting to. Reading greens with a lot of slope also added to the fun.
painfully slow round
While most Phoenix / Scottsdale area courses have done a great job of improving pace of play these guys didn't seem to care. 2 1/2 hr to play front 9 with no marshall in sight. Improved somewhat on back nine with marshalls that just came on duty trying to catch up for their co-workers. Finally finished in 4:40 - not great for a 6000 yd course. Condition of course was good except for a few tee boxes (too small an area for short Par 3's). Because of slow play, but mainly their attitude about it I will not be returning here - too many other options in the area.
Great course and condition
The conditions were excellent and the course fair but challenging..unfortunately it was Sunday afternoon and the pace of play slower than I like...well over 4.5 hours. A great place to play but understand pace may be slow.
Fun round
The Phoenician Oasis and Desert nines are extremely well maintained and provide the experience you'd expect from resort golf. The staff is very attentive and pleasant and the pace of play was better than expected for a Saturday.
My only complaint with the Phoenician is with the layout. Long, difficult par threes on the Oasis nine, short par fours and fives on both nines. I suppose I expected more of a mix of short and long holes, but most of the par fours are 370 yards or less, so not many opportunities to hit the driver. One par four on the Desert nine I hit 8-iron, sand wedge (312 yards on the card, played 295, downhill off the tee)...a little odd playing from what would be the white tees on most courses (Phoenician tees).
Resort quality, just short
Course condition excellent, a well manicured track. Narrow with great views. Probably best suited to families and mid to high handicap players. A $10 hot dog off the beverage cart is a little steep, but it is a resort course. The track is just very short for better players.
