The Wigwam Arizona
About The Wigwam Arizona
Located in the West Valley near Phoenix-Scottsdale is one of Arizona's most historic golf resorts, Wigwam. Set on 440 acres, this village-style resort features three 18-hole golf courses, including two designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., most notably the famous Gold Course. The resort features 331 casitas and suites with large private patios and several resort pools, including a new 25-foot water slide tower. The resort-style golf courses are more parkland in nature than surrounding desert courses and feature palm trees and water hazards sprinkled throughout. There are four dining concepts, led by the signature Litchfield's Restaurant serving local farm-to-table cuisine, while there is Red's Bar & Grill for casual fare and the Wigwam Bar, which is the social epicenter of the resort. Recreation outside of the 54 holes of golf is nine lighted tennis course and two regulation bocce-ball courts, sand volleyball, bike rentals and yard games.Facts

Red course is our favorite
Greens are in great summer shape. A few dead spots in the fairways. Its 120 degrees. To be expected...
Otherwise love this course!
Nothing to write home about
Was really excited to play this course but when I got there, I was underwhelmed. The greens have been punched a couple weeks before hand and there wasn’t much to look at other than houses and trees. Maybe one of the other courses would be preferred. I’m not sure. I haven’t played them yet but the red course is definitely not one. I will be revisiting anytime soon.
Red course at WigWam not up to usual quality
The fairways were recently aerated on the Red Course, so not up to it’s typical standards.
Course conditions
July 5, 2024
Fairway and greens turf conditions extremely bare. Would not recommend at this time.
Overbooked on Holiday
I was very excited to play this course as I drive by it often and it always looks great. Made a tee-time for mid morning on July 4th and it was slower than rounds in the winter when all the snow bird take over. I understand the need to make money but when you are waiting 10+ minutes on every shot in 113 degree heat, it’s not good for your body. If someone were to have a heatstroke in those conditions who knows what the legal ramifications would be. Had a bad experience solely due to the pace of play. Will not book mid morning again. Greens were decent, fairways were a little dry in places as you would expect in the summer, amenities were great. Friendly pro shop staff. Will try again some time down the road.
The mighty have fallen
Wigwam used to be the pinnacle summer golf courses. Just 4-5 years ago, all three courses used to be lush with Bermuda, greens responsive and rolling smooth, tee boxes in as good a shape as can be, a great 19th hole with good aesthetics, food, and beer. Now, the only thing that’s good is 19th hole. The fairways are blown and explode on impact. Literally sending chunks of dirt all over the place. Tee boxes are somewhat okay. Greens literally have mushrooms growing all over them - likely due to overwatering or lack of aeration? Either way, it’s an eyesore and also causes misdirected putts. So disappointed with this experience. I hold Wigwam to a much higher standard than this. I will not play again this summer. Hopefully they will find a way to clean this up for upcoming season. Too many events hosted here to have the course so poorly maintained.
Too much $ for conditions
The red course is my favorite among the Wigwam courses; I love the layout, it is very enjoyable to play, and there are lots of nice homes to look at during your round. The course is in reasonable shape overall, but I found the fairway grass to be too sparse in quite a few places. I paid $73 for 18 holes and in late June when the temps are so high I would expect the course to be in better shape based on that price. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Good driving range to warm up (balls included).
Blue Course
I always enjoy playing at the Wigwam, all 3 courses. I played as a single on a 117 degree day with a 10-20 mph breeze. Front nine took an hour and 8 minutes. Caught some groups on the back, which took an hour 45 minutes, so under 3 hours for 18 holes. Overall the course is in good shape. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in good to poor shape, some areas have very thin grass. But for the most part, the course is very playable. Bunkers have decent sand. I’m glad I brought a couple of bottles of water, they had ice in the cooler on the cart. I was surprised they didn’t put any water in the cooler. Staff was friendly and I enjoyed my round. I also shot a 2 over par 72, best round I’ve had on that course.
Meh
Started off fine. Person loaded my bag into cart, went to check in. Then I got to my round. Nobody told me that from the range to my tee box was about a 10 minute drive. Then as I pull up I’m told since I’m not a member I can’t be on my own cart, and he sent my group off early so I need to go catch up with them and load up with the other single. I would have had no problem with that if they had told me this from the start and not made me run and rush around to tee off.
Course conditions are mediocre at best. Pace of play is slow. Member in my group threw his putter at the green leaving pitch marks on green multiple times. Overall I would never recommend this course. Buy a city card and go play Papago or Aguila. They are significantly better.
Awesome course, will be back!
The course was great for the price! The layout was awesome and environment was chill. I will be coming back!
