Nice course but slow
It is really good course, but management is poor and the play was delayed.
Pete Dye Mountain Course Review
The course needs a re-do. The bunkers had zero sand and the rocky base destroyed my wedge. The pace of play was so slow our 5+ hour round resulted in playing 18 in the dark. My Exp were considerably higher. I will not return and I live here 5 months a year.
Don't bother unless you enjoy 5:30 hour rounds
We played both the PGA West Dunes and Mountain courses back to back in late Feb 2025.
The experience was the two worst rounds ever. The Dunes took 4:45 hours and Mountain 5:30 hours. We did not see a marshal on either day. It became obvious that PGA West in more interested in crowding the courses with tee time every 9 minutes and complete disregard for pace of play while charging $349.00 per round. The staff in the golf shop on the first day seemed to care less and on the second day they were not there as the shop had closed before the end of our round. There are several terrific course in Palm Springs and you would be well served to play all but the PGA Dunes and Mountain courses.
course in great condition
I played with a PGA West member. I commented that the course seemed easier than a previous visit. He said work had been done to make it more user friendly, especially from forward tees. I really enjoyed my day here
Terrible pace of play
5h20 to complete 18 holes. Tons of groups spending time as if they’re playing on the PGA only to shank a shot or 3 putt. Marshall was useless and told us to take more time to make space (yeah great idea. Punish everyone behind us even more!) and refused to admonish the slow group of amateurs using Aim Point at every hole… I guess he did not hear of etiquette and the basic rules of golf. Not only that, some genius accountant brilliantly decided to book a corporate competition of 12-14 foursomes who thought they were in the Ryder Cup without telling regular visitors. Nice touch for a $600-700 green fee. Horrendous.
Happy golfer
Course in great shape and fun to play.
Greens fast and true with a little more than normal roll out. Play to the centre of the green on back flags.
Worst greens ever
The course is beautiful but the greens are so hard and dry
You couldn’t keep the bask on the green. Not fun at all
Money scam
Went there to play the famous American Express tournament course. The course is pristine with amazing fairways and greens. That’s the good part. Now for the bad. Pace of play is atrocious.
It took close to 6 hours to complete 18 holes. The course is overcrowded with foursomes who think they are playing the US Open. It sometimes took 20 minutes to play a single hole. Completely insane.
They made us start on the 10th (wish I had know as I like to play a course in its designed sequence) so that they can cram more people on. After completing 4 holes in one hour, we asked the marshall (who clearly did not give a crap) to apply the rules of golf, i.e. go see the slow teams in front of us and ask them to speed up or force them to skip a hole but the answer was “we are doing the best we can” and then I was told that our group should slow our pace to create more gaps between each group. Yep! Let’s make it even slower than it already is. Great plan! By the 9th hole, the two other persons who played with us bailed out as they could not take it. I was tempted but instead play 3 balls at each hole to try to keep some semblance of rhythm.
When we finally to the clubhouse (climbing Mount Everest is probably a more swift ordeal), it turned out that not only the course was overcrowded but they had booked a private corporate competition in the morning which further clogged the course. Nice touch not letting anyone know and $700 well spent…
I was so late by the time I finish that I could not stop by the pro shop to ask for a refund or I would have with great pleasure.
Nice course
It’s a very pretty course in good condition. Pace of play was OK.
The only downside was that the greens were really slow - shockingly slow.
Very well run
I had an early am tee time. Pace of play was awesome: four hours precisely for our threesome. Course conditions were great, though greens were firmer than I would expect especially for morning. Holding a shot on famed 17th was an extra difficult challenge. Ernie’s for lunch was fantastic. One note: I picked up my clubs post round with no oversight or security. Made me a bit concerned about their safety.
