PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course

First time playing this course. The clubhouse is what to expect from a Palm Springs/Palm Desert resort. They load your clubs and have your cart ready while you check in. Staff was equally friendly and professional. The first sight of the course grounds was breathtaking. The course was in perfect condition. My group was the last to go out at 12:09. The group ahead of us kept good pace and no one behind us. Greens were very firm(as they should be), so there were not many ball marks on the greens. Fairways were plush and the rough was pretty thick. I can't wait to play there again.

My son and I are 20 handicaps, so go by that baseline. We chose the Dunes course from online reviews as we were specifically looking for the most playable course of the PGA West courses for our handicap indexes. The course is scenic and aesthetically wonderful. Great pro shop, range, etc. We found the Dunes course, however, to be very punitive. Flag placements might as well have been for Sunday at Augusta and the greens themselves are very hard (even after a heavy rain) and rarely hold a shot. Plus, half are bottle caps and undulating so any errant shot likely will roll off and down a hill. There's just no forgiveness. Fairways are in great shape but it's not easy to find an even lie. My advice: very challenging so if you are not at minimum a 10, hcp you will not find this enjoyable.

Played on Christmas Day. I played as a single, got paired up with a wonderful threesome (a mom and her two adult sons, who were playing from two different tee boxes). It had rained the day prior. So, I'm not surprised it was cart path only, except for the fact that neither at check-in nor from the starter did anyone tell us. But the marshall rudely came up and insisted that I was told it was, as I waited to hit my 2nd shot from the middle of the fairway. Instead of kindly mentioning it, he argued with me that that both the starter and the check-in employee told me (as if he was there) when neither did. Also, I'm not an idiot, if I had been told and knew it was cart path only, I wouldn't go off the path on the FIRST fairway in view of both the pro shop and the starter. And, a simple friendly approach and I wouldn't be mentioning it here. EXCEPT, we were approached coming off of the 10th green by a much friendlier marshall, who said we needed to keep up with the group in front of us and that we were "off pace" and that the group (3 men playing from the tee box behind us) were waiting for us. I guess he forgot that the GPS on the cart tells you your pace...we were 1 (yes one) minute behind, and it's CART PATH ONLY. But, he was at least friendly when he was being rude? We played 9 holes of cart path only in exactly 2:08. This experience would have been an easy 5 stars if the employees didn't hate their jobs or thought before they spoke. This is the difference between a 3 and 5 star review. Just be nice, assume the best in people. Be better, be kinder, and I'll be the first one to review you by name as outstanding.

Great Range, Very Good Fairways, Rough Very Challenging, Great Greens.

Not for high handicaps! Greens were more difficult than other Pete Dye greens I’ve played. Too many false fronts sides backs you name it🤪 CONDITIONS NOT BEST DUE TO NEW OVER SEED. Beware first time visitors at this time of year. Course layout great less super tricked up greens. Putting fine holding edge green approach shoots…forget it!

Only bad thing was the tee boxes. Would be nice to have them level. But other than that great track!

Wow! Lots are people - beautiful course. 5 1/2 hour round. BUT, very fun and challenging… course is in great condition.

just open after overseeding, grass was high in rough, hard to find ball.

cart path only made it difficult to play.

Just sanded the greens otherwise would have been 5 stars pace of play was great. Finish the round under 3 hrs.

We had a great time the course played hard due too the length of the rough, my guess 6 inches if you didn’t hit in the fairway, it took you a minute to find your ball and then once you found it, it didn’t go very far. We don’t get to play in those kind of conditions so even though it was difficult, it was fun. We would play it again!!

Course was in great condition for the dead of summer. Greens were a touch slow but rolling beautifully, a few of the bunkers were a bit more clay than sand. All in all, fantastic day of golf!

Beautiful scenery, friendly staff, but playing in the middle of the summer you have to expect summer conditions. That being said, grass on the fairways and greens was not nearly as nice as some of the other courses I've played this week, but overall, the course is definitely worth playing, especially on a hot deal.

My tee time was at 10:30am. No one on the course because it was so hot. 105F. Course was in decent shape but not as lush and green as some other courses. Staff was friendly. Would play again if temps are a little cooler.

Staff was friendly, polite, course is incredible. Greens are difficult, but makes the course unique.
