Pricing has come back down
After this course was taken over by the resort, the pricing shot up over 2x using the improvements being made to the course as the reason. Paying $50 a round here before this was one of the best kept secret value courses around but paying $120-140 was not. Now it's come back down to hovering around $100 which is reasonable for what the course offers.
Over priced and over rated
I would only play this course again if everything was booked. According to golfnow this is a 4.5 rated course. I would give it a 3. The rough was poorly mowed and bunkers unraked. I would expect these conditions at an inexpensive muni course. The advertisement that this is rated in the top 200 courses in the country is completely inaccurate.
Challenging fair course for bogie golfer
Most of the other reviews seem fairly accurate for this course.
Staff was very friendly. Course was fairly empty on a weekday afternoon. Layout was challenging. As other reviews mentioned, the rough made things tough. Not so much of an issue of losing plenty of balls, but it did affect short game shots which affected where the ball landed on the green (or back off the green) and the greens were challenging. (For locals, think Balboa Park.)
Also mentioned in other reviews, the carts were nice and modern but they were somewhat annoying locking down sometimes more than 100 yards from the green. I get being protective of the greens, but more than 100 yards seemed a bit much. And $10 for a small bucket of maybe 20 really junky range balls to warm up seemed a little expensive.
Course definitely worth the $35 I spent (Hot Deal and monthly $10 off coupon.) Probably worth up to $75. $100 for weekend would be a little much for me.
if you can get a hot deal, this is the hottest deal you can get!
my girlfriend and I have played this course two times both times on a hot deal and the value is extremely high! The course is in great shape, the staff is very helpful and friendly, and it was very uncrowded so the pace was great! We stopped at the turn and had lunch and it was delicious. I highly recommend playing this especially if you can get a hot deal but even if you can’t, this is a really nice golf course we drove from Mission Valley to go play there as well worth it.
Nice course!
The course has been upgraded and is in very nice condition! However, many of the mature trees have died and fallen down. It has changed the entire dynamic of the course which I have played for 25 years. They need to hire and arborist to evaluate the entire course in detail. Lastly, they have been talking about improving (or tearing down and replacing) the clubhouse and restaurant. It needs to be done!
Excellent!
Very nice golf course with good amenities. Jason was accommodating and friendly!
Fun Course
Wonderful course - challenging layout and in good condition. As a Senior Golfer I appreciate the Silver tee box!
Great course that was worth the drive from SD
Great Saturday for golf. I would absolutely drive up here again for a round. Worth the trip.
Improvements Galore
The course was in great shape. The rough was longer than we remember so that added a challenge to our round. The greens were also in excellent shape. The cost for a bucket of balls was expensive. The balls were very old and many would not fly. Overall it was a great day and and the improvements made have made it very desirable to play.
beautiful views and fast/true greens
helpful and responsive staff
clean and well maintained restrooms
polite pro shop crew
well marked course

enjoyed the changes in elevation on the course and great views from a number of the holes
challenging but fun - no frustration playing this well laid out course
