Excellent greens!
Course is dormant and obviously wet from all the weather this past week; however, the bunkering and green complexes were unbelievable. Felt like I was playing Royal Melbourne or Seminole
Disappointing
We weren’t able to finish our round, however from the minute we got there, the attitude of the staff was a turn off. We drove an hour to get there and pre-paid the green fees. We were doing them a favor, but pretty much the staff could care less that we were at their course. We had been there one other time at least a year ago. Either they had Bermuda on the fairways that has gone dormant, or they didn’t prepare their fairways with all of the great rain we have had. The fairways are thin, like dirt, with maybe slight fluff here and there. The greens are cut way too tight and have many divots throughout. Therefore, pin placements are literally ridiculous. No reason to drive that far, and pay the fees to golf there. Not worth a half of tank of gas. Read the other recent reviews. They are legitimate. There is no way that someone could give them a 5-star rating with the state of the course.
Burned out fairways
Live in Ohio. Our municipal courses are far superior to this overrated course. While the layout is beautiful. The groundskeeper needs to put some work into this course. Terrible pin positions on the green.
Save your money.
Hate the remodel. In poor condition.
Had not played the course since it was redone. Used to play at least 3-4 times a year. Course hadn't really been in very good shape for many years, but it was always ok as the track is interesting and price point ok. There was a 3hr frost delay when we arrived for a 12 time (no notification provided of this, but was a Teeoff time). Regardless, we got out about on time. Thought the fairways were dormant Bermuda, but really basically dirt. Only could hit off it, because of so much recent rain. Greens were really thin - almost no grass. Like some other reviews, the greens following the redo are ridiculous. The undulations are poorly thought out and way over the top. Agree with those who said it is like a putt-putt course. With almost no grass (green), they were mostly unputtable. Some flags were in absurd positions given the undulations. Probably hard to justify returning and the current cost. Terrible redesign. Should have just spent the money on better water management and the old greens....
Nice layout, crappy fairways
My son lives 2 minutes from the course and I have wanted to play it for the last 4 years. I live in Cleveland where numerous courses referring to our metro parks and public courses are far superior to San Vecente.
For the condition of the fairways , which were burned out on every fairway, the rates to play here are outrageous. If you like hitting every shot off the fairway on dirt, this is the place for you.
I did love the design of the course whoever put the pin placements on the greens doesn’t have a clue.
Many greens had the flags in a downhill position which were impossible to putt.
I played the course once…….a total disappointment. I won’t be back.
Your brochure of the course looks fantastic, too bad the course doesn’t look like the brochure.
I did have fun playing golf with my son.
San Vicente
Great condition ,every bunker perfect, greens unbelievable, almost too fast, great french fries, a true resort golf course.
Go somewhere else
If you like fairways full of weeds and overpaying for green fees, this is your place. $90 to play is such a joke, it’s maybe worth $20. This place is kind of a dump to be honest. The Marshall is rude and unprofessional. I will never golf here again. So many other courses that aren’t an hour away from San Diego that are worth the money. I’m not quite sure how this place has such good reviews. Not worth it. Golfer beware.
Dollar-for-dollar, one of America's best
The recent renovation of San Vicente Golf Resort has turned a relatively anonymous, out-of-the-way midcentury-modern golf course for locals into one of America's best hidden gems.
What's not to love? The course is walkable, it plays fast and firm and it has a sensational set of greens - daring, intricate and meant to be enjoyed over multiple rounds with changing hole locations. The redone bunkering is attractive without being overly showy, and bunker placements demand strategic planning from every tee box. Oh, and green fees top out around $70, the people are nice and the weather is usually perfect.
The course's semi-remote location helps keep the crowds away for now, but as the word gets out, more and more golfers will realize San Vicente is a must-play course for any curious golfer visiting the San Diego area.
Greens are hard, fast, and undulating. Green design and pine placements are ridiculous for casual golfers.
Slowest round
There was no starter and no marshal on the course. “Two groups” were in front of us that were actually all together. They were split into 4 and 2 off the first tee and then would just wait for each other on every tee box. I told the staff in the pro shop and his response was “ya we told them to split up”. These guys were not golfers. Half of them weren’t wearing golf attire. They drove on the wet fairways even though it was cart path only. They forgot clubs and head covers numerous times slowing down the pace even more. Normally I would have just skipped them but it would have been skipping 1-2 holes and it was my friends first time playing the course, so I wanted him to experience every hole. It took us five and a half hours to finish as a two some. Absolutely ridiculous. I again brought it up to the staff after the round and the guy could care less. Great course. Terrible staff.
Tee time was for 12:30 PM. Teed off at 12:40 PM finished 15 holes darkness. Way too slow too many golfers plus too many members playing multiple rounds.on same day deserved better actually deserve rain check so i can play 18 holes not fund 20-30 minutes each hole.
Good
Great Course, played behind walkers who went faster than us and everyone kept up with POP also every time a worker was around they were super friendly. Possibly add sumore snacks for the course. Great time just played on the dead stuff all day but expected w/ the weather.
Value Course to Play
I would recommend this course! Well kept greens and challenging!! Food was good and staff was friendly!
Beautiful course
Great course, tee boxes, fairways and greens are very well maintained, probably the best course for the money.
