Spectator day
Weather was wonderful, course in great shape, staff very friendly. Great to be rewarded for good shots, fairways open and great lies…greens areated but coming back strong🙂
Merced player
Greens ariated on the 4th so it's sandy, but the fairways and tee boxes in best condition.
6 hour round and staff laughed
We played in a shotgun that started late with no explanation and the starter told us to drink heavily as we were in for a long long day. That was the extent of the discussion
Shotgun Start leads to 6 hour round
The day started by being pushed back by a half hour without an explanation and then the starter laughing about having to be have a lot of alcohol to be able to play today. I have played a shot gun start at this course in a normal 4ish hours.
Having a starter laugh about the pace of play prior to play was disconcerting and then true. Never again will I be duped to play at this course
Terrible Experience, the marshall needs to learn to do his job correctly.
The good: I will start out by saying the guy checking us in was nice and the course was beautiful. It was well kept and has some gorgeous views.
The Bad: They booked a tournament at the same time! We were not part of the tournament. We booked a Tee Time at 10:30. When we checked in they told me they pushed our tee time out to 11AM without notifying me, not even a courtesy text/call. 1/2 an hour is no big deal, it was fine. It became an issue later however. My group got assigned a hole with another foursome, lets call them group A, that was part of the tournament so we let them tee off first as we weren't pressed for time. About 7 holes later the marshall comes up to us and tells they've received multiple complaints about us about not playing up to pace and that we needed to pick up the pace. The complaint came from the group playing behind us, we'll call them group B. There were multiple holes where we waited to tee off due to Group A still playing the hole. We tried to tell him that we were being slowed down by Group A but he refused to listen to us. He said that the complaints were about us and that we needed to pick up the pace. Again we tried explaining that we were merely able to play at the pace of Group A but he wouldn't listen or even go check on Group A to tell them anything. 2 holes later, Group B by passes us to play the next hole. We finished the hole and guess what? We had to wait for Group B to tee off as they were waiting for Group A to finish the hole. So now Group B and Group A slowed us down but the marshall didn't tell them anything. Group B eventually passes up Group A and once again we caught up to Group A. Even after Group B passed up Group A, the marhsall would linger behind us. He did this for multiple holes which really left us unmotivated to play. Instead of taking complaints at face value, he needs to learn to do his job and find out why a certain group is playing slower than expected. Had he come up to us and asked us or even bother to listen to us, he would have known that Group A was the reason for the slowed down pace and not us. He should have gone to Group A and asked them to pick up the pace but he didn't. He continued to blame us instead of listening to us. We are a courteous group, had Group B come up to us and asked to play ahead, we had have no issue or we would have explained that we were waiting for Group A but instead they call the marhsall that obviously doesn't know how to do his job and turned our experience at this beautiful course into a terrible one. I would have given the course 5 stars even with the pushed backed up tee time but they get one star because the marshall needs to learn to do his job and actually listen to explanations of players instead of trying to talk over them.
Gone Downhill
Played here several times. These were the worst conditions I've seen there. Fabric coming up from many if not all of the bunkers. Course not well kept in general. Was originally supposed to be a shotgun start but due to a light tee sheet it was the wild west. They just sent people out pretty much en masse to play off the 1st when they pleased. This caused a back up on the course. My playing partner called the pro shop about the slow play but no marshal ever came to check on things. I fear the course is struggling to keep things going out there. This used to be one of my favorite courses to visit.
Rained out
Only got 4Holes in. The rain storm came in heavy. It was not predicted to rain that much.
Nice course but needs some work.
The course at copper valley is a very good layout. Overall the conditions were ok. The bunkers were in poor condition. They were difficult to play out of. All bunkers should be designated as ground under repair. With a winter Golfnow price under $70, the price matched the conditions. It would be hard to pay more.
