Lost it’s charm
I had played there before and did like the overall quality-price experience . On this trip , fekt the course degraded around tees and outside the fairways , it did lose on the quality side for the region .
Not Great
Layout is amazing. Staff awesome. Greens were brutal and grass was suspect. Greens inconsistent with a bump every 8 inches.
Little disappointed…..
Love the layout but the pace of play was terrible. No water out on the golf course and the cart person was no where to be found.
A hidden gem
I haven’t played this course because everyone knocks it. But not true at all the greens were fast, great tee boxes and fairways. Not hard but sneaky with a lot of water and sand traps. Worth it and I will be back
Really Westin?
Westin, if you are going to put your name on this course, it should be first-class as you market yourself. But no first-class course has DIRT bunkers. And it is obvious that you filled in many of Pete Dye's bunkers that are now grass bunkers. It's a good thing he can't back and see the mess you've made all to save money.
Well maintained fairways and greens. Pace of play was good.
Good but not up to expectations
Play was slower than usual. I played 4 rounds in January 2025. The course was in excellent conditions except the greens. The suggest the starters remind golfers to repair pitch marks. The practice putting green was cut but the course greens were a bit shaggy. The course attendants, including shuttle service from the parking lot, was very good.
Great Value
For $80 it was worth every penny!
Not a difficult course but has enough water and sand hazards to keep you focused. Staff excellent!
A disappointment
It is a Gary Player signature course, so I expected an interesting and challenging layout. Instead, I found the front nine boringly simple. There is no rough. The fairways are wide. The greens are flat. Every putt is straight.
The back nine looks and plays like it was designed by another person. Many of the greens were protected by bunkering and water. The run-ups weren't all flat. Much more interesting.
However, what is a killer in my opinion is the bunkers had dirt instead of sand. I was told the wind often blows sand out of the traps, but I've played courses where they use a heavier sand to combat that problem. On top of that, many of the bunkers were not maintained well.
Great course great value
Had a great time at Gary player mission hills course today. Greens were in good shape and this course gives you all you want. Great value and pace was great. Well definitely play here again
cart had GPS
Just spent 3 weeks in the Valley, course was the worst by far for a Hotel/Golf Resort, you should be ashamed to charge relative to others in the Valley and offer this course to quests. You have gone thru new ownership about 3 years ago and still are below par. But are preceding to give the place a new paint job, awesome. Yes I did notice the place was dead. You should go next door to the course you divorced a couple years ago, was one of the nicest courses I played.
Fertility of grass was very poor on greens, bare spots, and dead ball mark holes littered the greens.
Marshall’s did not manage course whatsoever. foursome in front of me them they sent me out as a single, a single behind with wife and baby crawling on course, single behind them, and a random walker playing the front nine in between all groups. Made the turn and a twosome and single jumped ahead of the foursome ahead of us. Went to clubhouse to address issues and it was closed. There was no staff around to help or remedy a situation.
Westin is supposed to be a prestigious company but the staff there is doing whatever they want and have zero thought or care for the customers paying 99$ green fees.
This was very unprofessional and there was no communication to be had with staff.
I understand this. All courses around are in the grow in period while switching to cool season grasses I give lots of grace and respect towards the greenskeeping staff. This fault lies with clubhouse staff management and their non communication and management practices.
Love This Course
Low handicappers might not find this course challenging enough but mid/high handicappers will find it ejoyable. Course is kept in excellent condition and there's nothing "tricked up" about the course. It plays very fair and rewards good shot-making. I've played it twice and am a fan.
Great course to play if you want to not be welcomed
The staff was beyond unfriendly and the starter was just down right rude, to everyone! The course was brown, their was actually trash everywhere, the pace of play was AWFUL... don't waste your money, so many better courses in the desert to play.
Well maintained course with friendly staff
This was my first time playing the Mission Hills Gary Player course. Really enjoyed the round. It’s an interesting track with just enough water and other hazards to keep you honest and had gorgeous views of the mountains. Course was well maintained and the staff was friendly and helpful. Only issue was when I went to post my score. I had trouble locating the course. Turns out on you have to select Mission Hills North to post your score.
Poor Staff Experience, Good Course
5 minutes before my tee time I was informed there would be a 45-60 minute delay teeing off. Apparently the staff had forgotten to send groups out off the first tee for over 30 minutes. After quite a delay, we were told to start off the 6th tee (which was not really an issue). However, once we reached the 1st hole again around 2pm-ish, it was unfair for all golfers involved because multiple groups were teeing off on 1 trying to finish their round in addition to those just starting their round.
Management was not very accommodating for anyone during the day and did not provide any assistance or clarification as to their issues in the morning.
