Very Links feel, LONG par 4 with water on the right short to medium and water left near the green requiring a long carry if you are in the left fairway. TOUGH Photo submitted by Gage6692955 on 10/06/2012
Good Layout
I played the National at ChampionsGate as the 2nd round of 36 holes today. I played in and around a couple of thunderstorms so the pace of play was outstanding and I basically had the course to myself. Getting soaked was the only downside. It’s a nice layout. And pretty player friendly. A more traditional country club design compared to the International layout. The fairways are tight and the greens smaller. But it’s not overly tight and there is room to hit your ball. I would say it was in slightly better shape than the International right now which is just coming off being closed for aeration. The greens were smooth and soft from the rain. And the fairways and tees were in really good shape. There is a double green which was a cool feature. And 15 a par 3 on the back is a memorable hole. Bc you can’t see the green hardly for the brush in the forced carry area. Other than that hole not alot of forced carries. It’s a layout anyone can enjoy. And well worth the replay rate of $60 that I paid.
Good challenge
Played International Course at ChampionsGate for the first time today. It was the second day back open after being closed to punch the greens. They were almost all the way heeled up. They rolled smooth. And about the right pace. But it’s rained a lot in the area so they were really soft. They want this to be a links style course. But with all the rain it’s playing softer than a links now. There are a good bit of pot bunkers and mounds and tall fescue. But there is also a good bit of water. Which true links don’t have. There are several forced carries over water or natural or waste areas. And most of the trouble seems to be on the left of the hole. At least it seemed that way when I kept missing left! It was a really fun play. And I really enjoyed it. Even though I didn’t play real well at times. There are a couple holes on each side which force you to think and hit something less than driver. There are long and short par 3s. There are several somewhat blind holes as well. It would help to play the course more often to have a better idea of the lines. A lot of times standing on the tee box it was tough to commit to a sho bc you weren’t sure. But all in all it’s fun to play. And worth about $100 in the current golf climate.
Hot Florida Day
Good outing at National. Greens were fast but didn’t move much. The tee boxes and fairways were in good condition and no restrictions on carts.
I would recommend to pack your own food. The cart is good with normal fare but a fresh PubSub would’ve been much better than the cart food.
Fair and challenging
Hadn’t played here in a few years. The staff was friendly and helpful. Inside and outside facilities top notch. The course in fantastic condition tee to green. During the round a player assistant came around at least 3 times with iced wet towels and free water bottles also ice cold.
Ate at bar post round and food was excellent. Price = quality today.
Very good. As expected
Always in great shape. Greens were slow today for sure. Not sure if it’s a seasonal thing or purposeful for some reason. Value is peak right now with Summer local rates for sure. I’ll be back. Just hope they cut the greens.
This course sucked
The fairways were just sloggy. If u don’t hit the ball perfect ur club is getting stuck in the ground. After 5 holes my bicep was spasming because of that. Soooo many hazards I lost 7 balls in 5 holes. Never saw a golf cart girl for drinks or snacks. The greens were terrible. Balls don’t run at all on them. Overall terrible experience. After 9 holes I called it and I was done.
Great course
Really nice greens and turf, lots of bunkers to avoid. Some more trees would be nice and a few rough and weedy holes, but not affecting play. Overall very nice and challenging course but a bit pricey for the conditions of the rough and preserves.
