ChampionsGate Golf Club - International

About
ChampionsGate Golf Resort, an un-matched golf facility for world-class golf, offers 36 holes designed by International golf champion Greg Norman and is the World Headquarters of David Leadbetter Golf Academy. Located just 15 minutes from Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Champions has two excellent and very different golf courses on a single site.
Greg Norman blended tradition and modern elements to create a unique golf experience.
The International course, which is the highest rated course in Florida, has the look and feel of a links-style layout in the British Isles. The International offers a golf experience unlike any other in the Orlando area, but one that will be familiar to those who have played the links courses of Scotland and Ireland. The International was designed, constructed and seeded to offer a hard, fast playing surface similar to those found on true links courses. The International, with 18 of the most dramatic and challenging holes in Florida, is destined to rank among the top resort courses in the country.

Very Links feel, LONG par 4 with water on the right short to medium and water left near the green requiring a long carry if you are in the left fairway. TOUGH Photo submitted by Gage6692955 on 10/06/2012
Always good to play here
The course is well kept during hot summer days. The greens are in excellent shape and have a good speed. It's always fun to play here. The balls are easily lost if they land on the edges of the course. Hit your ball straight and to the center of the greens. HaHa!
ChampionsGate International a big win.
This is an Omni Resort just outside Orlando. The course is in excellent condition even though it’s been a brutal Summer. Tee boxes smooth. Fairways wide enough but with challenging turns and mounding. Plenty of bunkers - many guarding greens. A few water carries. Greens were a little slow - but that helped my game. There is a full practice area for putting, chipping and driving. The staff were outstanding - including the guys who kept my cart packed with ice, cold water and cool towels on a hot day. The cart was new, clean and had GPS. Putting up with the heat was worth it to have a chance to play this gem.
Great day, amazing staff
Course was in wonderful shape. Greens were coming back after being punched and were a little slow, but rolled true. Player assistant kept us in water and cold towels. Pace of play was about 4 hours and 30 minutes. Staff was excellent from the valet to the cart girl. Had a great round. This was a deal for the price.
Still one of Florida's premier couses
1st visit in about 15yrs to play the International course. The course was immaculate, with the only knock being the greens being a tad bit slower than usual. That is because they in August and the course needs extra water due to the scorching afternoons, so I will be back in the cooler months to play faster greens.
From the Pro Shop to the cart, to the range and Starter, even the player's assistant offering wet towels and water, everyone was pleasant and professional. We had a 7:00am tee time, and were unloading our bags by 10:20. I couldn't ask for a better experience, felt like we had the beautiful course to ourselves all morning.
Great Course. Spongey greens not quite rolling true
Love the course, the layout and how challenging the International Course is. The greens were quite soft and spongey so putts weren't rolling true but usually the greens here are top notch
Best value
DONT GET ME WRONG, this course is expensive. $170+ for early times. But you 100% get what you pay for here. I try to spend under $60 a round, and if you are an afternoon player anyways, there is NOT a better course in central Florida. The staff is all super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Range balls, water bottles, valet, and club cleaning are all included. The course is IMMACULATE. You can hit a good score, bad score, but there will almost never be the "well THIS OR THAT" got in my way. Even if you hit a bad shot, the grass is kept to the point that you will usually be able to play out of the rough without wanting to scream. The bunkers are DIFFICULT though. Stay out of them at all costs. There also is VERY little shade, so play on a hot day is a challenge. BRING SUNSCREEN!!! There is little shade on either course!
Greens are horrible on international.
Played 4 area courses over the week on a golf trip. This course looks good tee to green but the greens were unacceptable. Extremely bumpy, wet and so slow. I wish I would have stopped after 3 holes and asked for a refund but I thought it would get better. 17th green is so bad. They had the worst greens of the 4 courses we played and the most expensive. Go somewhere else
So disappointed
Usually one my of favorites to play in the area. Tee boxes and fairways are nice, but the greens are absolutely horrible. Slow and bumpy, its horrible. For $97 dollars its a rip off. Save your money and go play Southern Dunes.
Unfortunate imposter
Played this course a handful of times. Brought a scratch golfer(I am as well) with me this time because I raved about the previous experiences. Our course is closed due to greens renovation. I was embarrassed after the round as my judgment of picking great courses was in jeopardy. Tee until green was very nice, minus some in-play areas unkept. The greens were atrocious. Super soft, very slow, bumpy, and impossible to hit a basic bump and run. It became apparent it was bad when we left divot marks on the greens on a basic green-side bump and run. There was all bump and zero run. I was astonished at how bad the greens were. Charging $120 per person is robbery as there are many other courses with great greens in the area for cheaper. We didn’t care about the price, we wanted greens worth putting on, and this was a very bad experience. We played very welll even from the tips, but had many great shots lose to not having a chance because the putts had zero consistency. If this course was half the price being realistic with their greens, I probably wouldn’t have had an issue….
Good challenge
Played International Course at ChampionsGate for the first time today. It was the second day back open after being closed to punch the greens. They were almost all the way heeled up. They rolled smooth. And about the right pace. But it’s rained a lot in the area so they were really soft. They want this to be a links style course. But with all the rain it’s playing softer than a links now. There are a good bit of pot bunkers and mounds and tall fescue. But there is also a good bit of water. Which true links don’t have. There are several forced carries over water or natural or waste areas. And most of the trouble seems to be on the left of the hole. At least it seemed that way when I kept missing left! It was a really fun play. And I really enjoyed it. Even though I didn’t play real well at times. There are a couple holes on each side which force you to think and hit something less than driver. There are long and short par 3s. There are several somewhat blind holes as well. It would help to play the course more often to have a better idea of the lines. A lot of times standing on the tee box it was tough to commit to a sho bc you weren’t sure. But all in all it’s fun to play. And worth about $100 in the current golf climate.
Very good. As expected
Always in great shape. Greens were slow today for sure. Not sure if it’s a seasonal thing or purposeful for some reason. Value is peak right now with Summer local rates for sure. I’ll be back. Just hope they cut the greens.
This course sucked
The fairways were just sloggy. If u don’t hit the ball perfect ur club is getting stuck in the ground. After 5 holes my bicep was spasming because of that. Soooo many hazards I lost 7 balls in 5 holes. Never saw a golf cart girl for drinks or snacks. The greens were terrible. Balls don’t run at all on them. Overall terrible experience. After 9 holes I called it and I was done.
