A must play course
Loved everything about this course. You would never think you're in Florida. You will not be disappointed playing this course!!
Great golf course, reminiscent of Bandon
I'm rating this golf course first as it was the first of three (Red, Blue, Black) that we played as part of a GolfAdvisor getaway package.
About the getaway itself: our group had done Bandon the previous three years in a row and wanted to try somewhere new so fell on Streamsong. We came in with high expectations, and overall the trip did not disappoint: the golf was great and pretty reminiscent of Bandon (except the alligators!) , and the amenities were top notch.
As for the Blue course, it was probably my least favorite of the three, but that could be just because the other two are more recent in my memory, honestly. It was in great shape and had some amazing moments like the par 3 7th, in particular. The greens were fast and big and really challenged you to find the right tier.
In general, I would highly recommend the course and Streamsong as a destination.
Streamsong Red was totally enjoyable. There is a wide variety of holes, beautiful scenery, and a wonderful layout. Course was in great shape.
We played Black after a morning round on Blue (first time ever) that took ~4.5 hrs. We walked and hustled along. The starter on Black was not accommodating to our group (two foresomes back-to-back) when we wanted to switch up the groups for our team match which spanned 4 days of golf. We eventually switched around the groups by the 3rd hole and had a great time.
The course was different than Blue with a lot of sand along the fairways, and fairway and green side bunkers as well. There could be better indicators as to where the next tees were as you left greens which would help first timers who don't have caddies. The course was very interesting and enjoyable to play, especially given the difficulty of a few holes. Our second round on Black the next day was even more fun as we knew our way around and where to direct certain shots. Would love to return!
Streamsong Blue was the first course we played during our visit. It was fun and very playable. Each hole was interesting and they all flowed together nicely. The course was in great shape and the staff was attentive and helpful. Would love to return.
Great and Very Challenging Course with Fantastic Conditions
This was my first time playing Streamsong Black. I love the course, but the greens are super challenging. I would highly recommend Streamsong Black and I would say bring your putting A game, but I have NEVER played a course with more challenging greens.
As is the Blue and Red courses, the practice facilities are great. The course is awesome. Tee to green the course is fantastic. The course has wide fairways with tons of humps, bumps, slopes and undulations. There are TONS on bunkers (booth fairway and greenside). Also, huge sandy waste areas abound on pretty much every hole.
The greens are the most challenging greens I have every played. The greens were in fantastic condition, but they are VERY challenging with mounds, slopes, hills, bumps, etc. and everything you can imagine to make them a challenge. Greens in regulation is an irrelevant stat on the Black course. even being on the green you can EASILY 3 and 4 putt. The greens are massive and with big mounds and undulations. That said, I would play this course over and over again because it is that nice.
Very Good but Not Great
I had the chance to play Blue again as part of the recent Golf Advisor Getaway to Streamsong. Blue is a very good course, but it ranks third out of three for me at the resort. The greens are huge with a ton of undulation and a lot of fun to play if you have the right mindset. In my opinion, Blue has the least memorable holes of the three courses on property (outside of the awesome Par 3 #7). Also, the course really needs some directional signage. We didn't have caddies and found ourselves not knowing where to go multiple times. I would still recommend playing the course to others, but I'm partial to Red.
Favorite Course at Streamsong
I had the chance to play Red again as part of the Golf Advisor Getaway, and this recent round confirmed my love for this course. In my opinion, Red is by far the most scenic course at the property, and the routing makes you think your way through each hole. Also, the greens are certainly not small or flat, but they're much easier to navigate than Blue & Black. Another Coore Crenshaw masterpiece!
Take the Black
I had the chance to play Black twice during our trip to Streamsong as part of the Golf Advisor Getaway package. Overall, the course was a lot of fun, and I would highly recommend the course to others. It plays pretty similar to the other Streamsong courses but with more extremes. The greens are MASSIVE and have plenty of undulation to them. The punchbowl (#9) was certainly a lot of fun to play. Another great addition to Streamsong!
Awesome Course - Beautiful setting and scenery.
This was my first time to Streamsong. It was an amazing place in the middle of nowhere with nothing close by.
I like when you pull up to the bag drop area, you can valet park your vehicle if you choose. All the facilities are top notch. Excellent practice area for all you clubs. Make sure to practice your short game and long putting.
The Red Course is one of the nicest links courses I have played. It was fantastic. As with a links course, there are tons of slopes, undulations, mounds and humps everywhere (greens, fairways, etc.) There terrain is very natural and amazing. The bunkers are a true challenge and the bunkers are everywhere.
I am sure you will love the Red course, just as I and many, many others who have written reviews. There is a reason it is rated in the top 100 courses in the U.S.
The Windmill Course
How many times have we, as golfers, said “all this course needs is a windmill”? Well give Gil Hanse kudos for having the nerve to actually put a windmill on Streamsong Black. Once you play the hole with the bowl green, you will understand the reference to a miniature golf course. You cannot see the pin from the fairway, but if you are lucky your approach shot may roll down to the hole if goes in, you win a free game). If not, it is fun to run a put up the side of the bowl and see how close you can get to the hole.
This is the newest of the Streamsong courses, and perhaps the most interesting.
A Fan Favorite
The Red Course was the third and final course we played as part of The Golf Advisory Golf Getaway. It was worth the wait. Our threesome was the first group out at 7:30, and we buzzed around in 3:50! This Core/Crenshaw design was my favorite (and most everyone I asked) of the three Streamsong. With picturesque vistas, the course was right in front us, with the exception of one par 5 guarded by a huge sand dune.
My only knock on the course (and on all the Streamsong courses) was the depth of sand in the traps. In most cases the sand was very deep and not well manicured. A few of the traps had been washed out by rain.
A Dunes Course in Central Florida
While there was no ocean or large body of water nearby, the dunes and man made lakes evoked a feeling of playing Whistling Straits on Lake Michigan or even a Scottish course. There were a lot of elevation changes which you don’t usually experience in Florida. Walking the course with a caddy was a delightful way to experience this course.
The course was generally in good condition, with my only objection being to the sand traps. The sand was not consistent, with some traps having an over abundance of sand. The traps had not been groomed my machine which also made them inconsistent.
Outstanding golf holes that flow nicely in a great natural setting
I very much like and would recommend all three Streamsong courses, and I rank them: 1. Red, 2. Black, 3. Blue. The Red Course is one of the finest I have played. It is pitch perfect with its flow, setting, challenges, and variety. It feels like a great walk through a distinctively natural property with wonderful golf holes. It has excellent fairway movement with angles off the tee and bends and twists. Very fair width of the fairways, interesting green shapes and sizes, several beautifully nestled into dune settings. Great use of sand and brush as waste areas in certain parts of the property. Nice use of water in a way that is part of strategy without overwhelming any hole. Great mix of long and short holes, several blind shots, elevations. The bunkering is artistic yet natural-looking. Hazards are expertly placed to make you think through your shot selection. Greens are challenging to read but not tricky, with nice banks and rolls, some subtle and others more apparent, and several greens boomerang around a trap. The course has one outstanding hole after another. The Red is a strategic and visually memorable journey.
In my rankings of the on-course food shack options, the brisket sandwich on the Red is great and comes in second to the grouper taco on the Blue. But smelling the smoked brisket as you walk from tee to green on Red 8 adds to the experience!
Big, bold, great course with a few terribly over-the-top greens
I very much like and would recommend all three Streamsong courses, and I rank them: 1. Red, 2. Black, 3. The Black Course is large-scale grand fun. Tee to green it is fantastic. Wide fairways (wider than Red, but they didn’t seem as wide as the Blue) with good movement and use of elevations and hazards. Big sandy waste areas abound. The course gives strategic options throughout. There are some terrific distinctive features like split fairways and some blind shots. The biggest thing everyone discussed after playing the Black was the greens. I liked the majority of them. They are massive and with big mounds and undulations. On the first 11 or so holes they are fun. They are enormous but the center sections generally are nicely sloped or mounded and then severe features are around those sections. If you are within 30-40 feet of the hole you have a challenging but normal two-putt chance. If farther you have a crazy green mound or slope to contend with. But on 4 or 5 of the greens on the back-nine, the greens are too overboard. The mounds and run-offs take up too much of the greens. You have barely any space to hit from your approach to hold the greens. Other than those 4 or 5 greens, the course is fantastic, but they are so severe that they detract from my overall score. That said, I would play this course over and over again because it is very good, nice to walk, and very fun.
Very good course with some great holes and some VERY wide fairways
I very much like and would recommend all three Streamsong courses, and I rank them: 1. Red, 2. Black, 3. Blue. The Blue Course makes great use of elevations throughout. It plays up and down various hills and through dunes. Water is in play on a few holes but not that many. There are a handful of excellent holes- the photogenic par 3 over water 7th, the elevated green 4th, the 12th tucked behind a stream in part of the fairway, a long, narrow par-3 set on a hillside at an angle to the tee, a good cape-style hole over water, and more. It has some great short par-4s that make you consider distance and placement. The greens have wonderful internal mounds and some with good tiers. I’ve read some say the greens are too severe but I didn’t think so. They are more mounded and rolling than the Red but not as crazy like the Black, and some are nicely set right up to the dunes. One aspect of the course that detracts for me is that despite some great holes, many holes are too wide and straight off the tee. Only a couple of par-4s or par-5s have any significant bending or movement of the fairway from tee to green, or make you think of your angle of your tee shot. Another minor point is that the bunkering didn’t seem as aesthetically pleasing as the Red. From 150 yards and in, the course is excellent, and beyond there are a few great and memorable holes.
In my rankings of on-course food shack options, the grouper tacos on the Blue course come in first!
Of all the courses at Streamsong, Black is my favorite and is truly a unlike the Blue and Red. Very firm and fast with a lot of room off the tee. I loved the options you were presented around the greens as the turf is pretty much all one length. Great variety of holes.
Great sense of a unique place
Amazing landforms, entirely unlike indigenous Florida,. Course starts out very interesting but only concern is string of long, receptive holes at start of back nine.
Isolation and Beauty: Black Edition
A year after visiting Streamsong for the first time (to play Red and Blue), I returned to play all three!
The Black Course certainly stands apart from the other two, both physically and architecturally. Having it's own clubhouse is a nice touch to getting a different experience.
It's a course full of unique challenges. Surely if you've done any other research on the course, the thing that comes up most often is the greens. They are no joke! They are huge and they are wild. Tetherow is the only course I recall playing with such severely contoured greens. That being said, most them had reasonable pin positions and putting on them was challenging, but not impossible.
The second hole is interesting. It's a short par 4, but the green is absolutely diabolical. The uphill slope hides the green from view... having no course knowledge our group had no idea that anything past the flag was dead. It was surprising and a little frustrating, but would have been a fun challenge if we knew what to expect. The lack of pinsheets is a bummer.
The ninth hole is probably most famous for its punchbowl green. It's certainly a novelty, that is sure to be polarizing for any group. I appreciated it, but do wish it wasn't a blind shot into it. My buddies hated it.
All of the par 3s and par 5s are pretty fun, and very playable for any skill level.
Overall, this course was sneaky hard. It's fairly open, but bad shots get punished. The greens make getting shots close pretty difficult. It's a fantastic course, but I'd put it just behind the other two. Blue remains my favorite.
Outside the clubhouse there is an 18 hole putting course that is ridiculously fun. Grab a drink and play it until dark!
Streamsong is a must visit golf destination. The resort is top notch, and the staff are all super friendly. Most importantly, all three courses are unique and fun.
