Course stole from me
Course tells us they are closing for lightning and that we can’t wait for it to pass.
No lightning in area, wasn’t even raining, just typical southern afternoon mist.
Staff just wanted to go home early. No rain check given.
Will not return.
Do yourself a favor and pass on this one. Greens were trash as well.
Disappointing
The course was pretty. Great layout, fairways and rough were great. Bunkers and greens were ATROCIOUS. The greens were some of the worst greens I have ever played on. They were not well maintained at all… looks like someone took a shovel tip and just annihilated the greens and you can tell they haven’t been rolled in forever. The course was worth the $80, but the greens were worth about $20. If you’re looking for the experience then this course is one to mark off the bucket list. If you just want to play a round of golf then I’d definitely go elsewhere, cause you will just leave frustrated. I will probably come back to play the other course in hopes that it is better, but it’s definitely not a course I’m gonna bring a group of friends to for a out of town golf trip.
Lake view at Callaway Gardens
Overall pretty decent conditions, however, every single sand trap needed sand and needed to be raked. No rakes to be found anywhere. Was literally hitting off hard pack dirt anytime I was in a trap. For a "resort" course, it was pretty sad. Rest of course seemed to be in pretty good shape, if you miss the fairway, beware, rough is thick and deep, and have to be standing on top of ball to see it. So challenging for sure.
PGA caliber track
The course continues to improve with each rainfall we have. The greens are coming in nicely and were rolling fairly well. Tee to Green, the Bermuda is coming in and is lush. The rough is penal as well, so it's almost a necessity to keep your ball in the short grass
Only complaint would be that the cart attendants were not around to assist with unloading my clubs as I had to carry them from the parking lot to the bag drop. Nor did anyone ask me if I'd like to have my clubs cleaned after my round. I always try to tip at least $5 dollars, and had two 5's ready, so someone missed out.
Small gripe and I can live with that. Will definitely be keeping mountain course in my rota.
in good shape
Course in good shape, prefer the front 9 to the back 9. Plays long, greens good.
great experience
Course was in great shape. went off @ 10:45...played like a private course!. A nice design, can't say enough. Back on 13 &14 you feel like you're in another world. Quiet, removed.
Great shape
The course and the Greens were in great shape. Was not to crowded and pace of play was just over 3 hrs.
Overall pretty good
I’ve always heard lots of good things about the course and I guess it fell a little short of my expectations. To their defense, it’s been super dry lately and I read several reviews about the bumpy greens. I could tell the poa ana was going away and the greens rolled great with the only exception of a few. Tees were hard and difficult for my wife to get a tee in the ground. Fairways were nice. Saw the cart girl like 4 times. After some rain and mowing this will be in great shape for the next few weeks.
Great day for golf
Pace of play was terrific. fairways were in good shape for this time of year. A little high but reasonable since we had no rain for 3 weeks. All Poa on the greens was gone since maintenance verticut all the greens but they putted really well since they were probably rolled, Staff was excellent and gave us plenty of water with ice.
Good test for any skill!
The track is great. Pick the right tees and this will be fun but challenging.
Why would you water greens at 1030am?
A buddy and I played the lake course, had a 10:30 tee time and spoke with 3-4 different employees from the time we loaded our bags to the time we were teeing off. At no post did anyone tell us that the greens would be getting watered and the cups would be 3 inches deep full of water. The layout was nice, the staff was nice but the fact that we were putting into a cup full of water and greens that were mushy from water was ridiculous. Will probably not be making the trip again unless I call ahead to confirm they will not be watering during the day like goobers.
