The property was founded in 1952 and today features 36 holes of golf and many more natural and outdoor activities on the grounds to explore. The resort is home to the Lake View and Mountain View 18-hole golf courses, both wind and tumble through the rugged and forested terrain. The Callaway Resort & Gardens is set on Robin Lake, which has a beach area, while there is a robust events calendar bringing arts and entertainment to the property. In addition to golf, there are three pools onsite, workshops, hiking, tennis and a spa. The Treetop Adventure is a series of ziplines and bridges in the trees, and there is also a large butterfly center and birds of prey exhibit. For restaurants, there is a multitude of dining areas ranging from fine to casual, beach and poolside fare. Accommodations range from rooms and suites in The Lodge and Spa; more relaxed cottages with full kitchens and fireplaces; large and upscale villas; and the more affordable Mountain Creek Inn.Facts

Great hole! Photo submitted by dongolf0123 on 04/21/2014
Beautiful setting
Calloway golf courses have great potential. Mountain course today was a 4 of 5. Positives- fairways were in great shape. Roughs were very tough - difficult at times to find my ball. Pace of play was great. New carts. Pro shop has new merchandise. Only negative was a couple of greens need work.
Calloway Gardens and golf courses are a great place to visit and play golf. Courses have improving the past couple of years.
Played behind a sixsome, rough needs to be cut
Nice course in great shape. Played alone and lost several balls right by the green in the thick Bermuda rough. Rough should be cut some if you can’t find balls 2 feet from the green. Pace was good until I got behind a sixsome who ignored I was there. Quit after 11 holes.
Greens...meh
Was generally in good condition, but the greens were not in their usual condition, ball was bouncing all over the place on every putt.
Lake View
Course is great shape. Greens coming in nicely from being punched. Speed of play was good.
Poor Greens and Rough
Played the Lake course once in August and again mid September. Greens super slow and bumpy both times. And any ball off the fairway is 50% lost, unless you step on it. Rough is only 2-3” long, but is too thin to support a ball. Definitely not fair to only slightly mis-hit balls. Disappointing for what I thought was a great layout and resort course.
Proshop sho and cart staff were great!
Stay out of the rough !
I enjoyed Mountain View . The layout was challenging and played longer than Lake View. That is why I played the course. My buddy was struggling and hit in the rough a lot. He lost about 12 balls due to very high roughs. The rough on all the holes weee very high and if you hit even a foot in the rough - good luck finding it. But, we knew that going in with all the reviews about the rough. Bottom line - I will play Mountain View again soon
( my buddy might not ). Ha.
Great course
In good shape and the greens were about 90% after being plugged. Overall great value with the Hot Deal!
Like the course; could have been better
The pace of play was really bad, with a huge group of guys -- even fivesomes in front of us. It was exercise in patience. That was frustrating. The course is tough for me; I find the sand far too often for my taste. Greens were really bouncy and seemed to need to be rolled. But I'm not a greenskeeper.
Seen Better
I typically don't give Fair or Poor reviews on Golf courses but I have to say that Callaway Garden's Lake View course was a tremendous disappointment. When I booked the course, it did not mention the Greens were being Aerated nor the overall condition of the course.
We arrived and checked in at Callaway and the attendant Brian was accommodating and friendly throughout the check-in process. There was no mention that the Greens on the Lake View course had been Aerated and the overall condition of the Fairways, Tee Boxes, and 1st Cut off Fairway was not in good shape.
We noticed that when we arrived at the First Tee, there was a group of 4 somes lined up, well to our surprise the Mountain View course was closed, and they had everyone playing on the Lake View course. No one mentioned this information at all.
As we Tee'd off and made our way to the Greens, we discovered that they had just been Aerated. After playing RTJ's Grand National courses (which are in Awesome shape) I had the same expectation that Callaway wouldn't disappoint, but boy was I WRONG. I don't mind playing a course that's been Aerated if given proper notice and the fee to play the course is Reduced obviously.
We contacted the Pro Shop and were given the option of receiving a free 9 Hole Round or coming back to the Pro Shop to receive a Refund and find somewhere else to play. We decided to cut our losses and turned around on the 2nd Hole to go get our Refund.
I'm not sure if I'll ever come back to play Callaway as this has left a very sour taste in my mouth. Brian at the Pro Shop was definitely great to work with, but it would've been an enjoyable experience if Callaway was Open and Upfront about the Maintenance and Upkeep of the course.
Just punched the greens
Played here many times. Never seen the greens in worse condition. Maybe they will survive

Aerated greens
Greens were freshly aerated and putting was challenging at best. Fairways were not bad but the first cut was very high which requires more time to find your ball. Overall good day. Nice course when it’s well maintained.
Staff should be ashamed
Weeds on tee boxes, burnt up greens, loose every ball in the rough. Not a fun course the way the staff has let the course go. They should be ashamed to charge $90 to play the course in the condition it currently is in. I will not return.
Callaway Gardens should be ashamed
The staff has lost the course. There was cut grass in bunkers, weeds on tee boxes, and the rough was so high...you would lose your ball if you were just a foot off the fairway. This destroyed the pace of play. The only reason this round didn’t take 6+ hours is because others must have gotten word that the course is way overcharging because not many people were playing that day at All. I would save money and go play the immaculate bull creek in Columbus if in the area.
If you want US Open conditions with ANY shot off the fairway by inch’s in which you will never find your ball this is your track… absurd- we are low double digit players and could not find shots that weren’t in fairway or on green complex … no fun- cut the grass
Thick Rough and Lots of Golfers Impact Pace of Play
The course was packed so the pace of play suffered. Fairways and greens are in good to great shape. The rough is too thick however. A drive just off the fairway is hard to locate without spotters. It felt like what the US Open rough looks like. That’s fine for tournament play but tough for novel golfers enjoying a weekend round of golf.
