A dog track not a golf course. Run far away
The course is in abysmal shape. The greens are terrible with holes dug in them by some animals. I was told by one person there armadillos and I believe it. There are also holes in the fairways. Their ankle brake holes too, so beware you could easily break your ankle in one of those armadillo holes. This course needs to close down for at least 3 to 4 months and have the staff do some miracle work on it or else you’ll just be disappointed and crying at the end of the day.
I was actually speaking with someone that had played there and said you should write honest review and I said that I would.
Play somewhere else this is a dog track
Of course isn’t about the worst condition. Possible greens are horrible with holes in them dug by animals probably armadillos. The grass on the fairway is dead mostly. I recommend that you close this course and start over or at least give it a good makeover worth 3 to 5 months. If you play this, you’re wasting your time and your money.
Course Good for Hot Deal Price
We play Indian Mound frequently when staying nearby. The course--which is scheduled to be redone this summer--isn't is the condition that we're accustomed to at our home course, but for the price of a GN Hot Deal, we can overlook the bare spots. For this round, pace of play was excellent, with no one behind us and only a twosome ahead of us.
You Get What You Pay For
We play Indian mound frequently when visiting in the spring and fall because one of us is a beginner and the price is right. with a GN pass. However, with that, we sometimes encounter issues with the pace of play; I would never consider playing on a weekend because of this.. It's the luck of the draw; we completed this round in 3.5 hours, with only slight backups with two separate singles ahead of us. The next day, at the same time of day, the club ran out of golf carts and balls at the driving range in early afternoon. This course needs maintenance; .The "rough" is primarily dirt and roots and some tee boxes have no turf whatsoever. The GPS on the carts, while a nice perk, is very frustrating; During this round, I actually had the cart lock up ON a cart parth. We will be choosing the newly redone courses like Pine Lakes for the remainder of our stay here. Indian Mound, of course, is much flatter than what we are used to up north and there is virtually no rough, so only a few clubs required to play.
Oh The Potential!
I realize the course is relatively new but if this course does not get some TLC soon it will go down hill.We played behind a best ball scramble, so it was slow, expected. Tee boxes were so hard we could barely get tees in. The fairways were equally hard and sparse of turf. Greens were very good, definitely the high point of round, If you get a super hot deal, then go for it, but the rack rate is way too high! The layout is good but course needs some help!
Great greens
The greens were smooth and fast. Loved them. Some tee boxes and fairways had just a few rough spots but the course is in great shape. Many different holes require different types of shots. Lots of fun.
Exceptional course
Overall, everything about this course was just superb from start to finish. Most places in SE Georgia are fighting off crab grass and just dead grass in general. These fairways were so clean and cut just perfect height. Greens were so cared for and had some character to them. Not an overall hard course but definitely beautiful for sure. Highly recommend even if paying full price. I paid for a hot time on GolfNow and that made it an even better experience.
Hmm
I have played Great Dunes three times, and the new routing is terrific. Typically, the pace of play is reasonable. Yesterday, we reserved three tee times, the cost well over $400, and without notice in late morning the pro shop closed the range. We were disappointed not to be able to warm up ahead of our tee time, during the 40 minutes we waited for our tee time, a total of 8 players were on the range. This time the pace of play was very slow. After playing for four hours, we were on hole 14 along with two other groups, and so we just drove in and called it a day.
Maybe just had bad luck that day.
Unexpectedly poor service
Great Dunes, you fell short of my expectations. Despite asking about drink options, we were unable to get refreshments on the course. Improvement is needed in communication and amenities. I specifically asked at the pro shop about drink carts. I was told one was making rounds and I was told there was a drink hut at the turn. None of that is true!!!! I would have prepared accordingly had I known the truth. We tried ordering from cart, feature not available. We tried calling the clubhouse, wrong number. Tried another number listed and no answer. Course is great, customer service is terrible. It’s my option that when you pay a certain amount to play golf, you should not have to worry about getting assistance in any form, customer service or refreshments.
Don’t waste your money
One of if not the worst golfing experience to date. Not one to leave a review especially a negative one and definitely all for people enjoying themselves on the course. The course in its self is a work in progress and after a dry winter and spring here that was to be expected after the redesign so I would say give the track another year or so and it will be a great course that will be a lot of fun! Greens are almost unplayable right now and especially not worth $135 a round. But the problem was the fact it took almost 5 hours to play and the fact no one pushed the pace of play along at all. Groups of 5-6 playing together, blaring music and yelling after taking shots 10-15 yards from our tee box. Older guy working outside services swapped out a cart for a group in front of us and while doing so gave the hacks all lessons while they had 3 groups stacked behind them and then got mad and yelled at me (even after I started the conversation with an apology and tried to hand him a $20 for being late) for coming in 20 minutes late as if I wasn’t waiting to tee off for 10-15 minutes each hole. Here’s a tip old man maybe don’t give hacks lessons while you have a full tee sheet.
Indian mound golf
When I arrived, I saw that it was quite busy. When I checked in, I was told there were no carts. I had to wait for a cart. I was put on a list. When I finally got mt cart, I missed my tee time and there were too many people ahead of me at this time. It wasn't worth trying to play. They were nice and gave me a rain check. I think when you have so many big parties they need to plan better. Maybe not book people?! I will be using my rain check. I still want to golf and I already paid for it!
Disappointed
The layout is interesting but the fairways had little grass and the greens were very bumpy. The course looked like it was still under construction on several holes. The on course signage was limited and confusing. There were stakes with hole numbers but no signs pointing toward the tees. It was overpriced considering the conditions.
Meh….buzzards
Most courses I have played around the country, have geese or swans or ducks if they have any wildlife at all… But the wildlife I saw at this course was… Buzzards…which is pretty fitting for the conditions of the course. Bumpy and bare greens, thin fairways and tee boxes that were either nothing but sand or overgrown. Staff was amazing, practice areas were nice, but Indian Mound is closing in on goat track status.
Best public golf in the Golden Isles?
Beautiful and challenging links course. Lots of character. Really fun track.
Approached my tee time with trepidation because of the reviews I’ve been reading on GolfNow. My advice: ignore the complaints. Does the course have some blemishes? Maybe, but they are part of the charm.
