HOT round of golf
Was very hot teeing off at 2 pm but worth it. Had the course to ourselves. Course in great shape!! Will play here again.
Very consistent play every time.
This is my go to course for my area, the greens are always in good to great shape. We have received a lot of rain this summer, but the course is still in great shape overall. I don’t have a single complaint, great value for the price.
Bring your bug spray!
This is a pretty fun layout. I played as a single on a Friday morning, and was sent off the 10th tee to allow for faster play. Played the first 14 holes in 2 hours, and the last 4 took 1.5 hours, but such is the life of playing as a single. The course was in reasonable shape, but they had punched the greens (looked like about 7-10 days back), so they provided me a sleeve of used balls as compensation when I checked in. I would have preferred a discount on the green fee, rather than a package of balls they pulled out of the woods, but I guess it was nice of them, they certainly didn't have to do it.
My only real complaint (and one they can do very little to fix) is the bugs. No amount of bug spray is going to keep the gnats off you in the summer in southern GA, so just be forewarned. If the course has a solution to this, they should share it at check-in. I have only played here twice, but it is convenient to north/south travel on I-75, so worth consideration.
Great layout, small greens.
The course is in great condition. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens, all in great shape. The greens are smaller than I prefer. They average 25-30 yards in depth. I tried to call before I came, and it took 3 times before somebody answered the phone. I don't quite understand this as they were not at all busy. I pretty much had the course to myself on a Friday afternoon. I only played there to kill a couple of hours driving home from Florida. I was trying to miss Atlanta rush hour. Played this course in less than 3 hours. Worth the play if the price is right. I paid too much at $25. Golfnow had a hot deal at $11, but I would have had to wait another hour to play. The course has it's moments. Play it and see what you think.
A South Georgia Gem!
This is a challenging course in a beautiful setting.
The staff was top notch, and the pro shop was more than I expected, We will definitely be back.
Great Value !
booked thru GolfNow and saved a ton of $ ... great value for 18 holes with a cart ! ... course was in good shape... played at 09:10 in the morning.... pretty much had the course to ourselves ... played 18 in just over 3 hours...
Lake Blackshear Golf Vourse
Over the past 20 years I have played this course over 150 times. The course is an excellent layout and used to be in average to great shape with a competent staff. Currently the fairways are bone dry, almost no grass, especially on the tee boxes. Greens are the only factor worth consideration. My tee time was 12:00 and was told a 20 minute delay, no real problem . However they allowed groups of five and six to play, which resulted in a five hour plus round. Eveident they over booked, no ranger on course to assist, leaving me with a very unsatisfactory round. They were many others complaining as well. Truly a terrible experience on a course I have enjoyed for many years.
Great Course, Fantastic Staff!
I played this course on a beautiful Sunday. Before playing, I had a lesson with the Club Pro, Jim Bishop. It was a fantastic lesson as he added 60 yards to my distance in under an hour and sent me home with a toolbox of useful drills. The staff was extremely friendly and fit me in on a busy Sunday without a reserved tee time. The course was nice and the greens were well kept. The front 9 is a little easier than the back 9 but both have some challenging holes and some forgiving ones. I highly recommend because of both the staff and the course.
Good Course
Day was a little windy at the 2 PM start but got better by the second 9. Enjoy the layout of this course. Fairways still brown but in good shape. Greens were full and in good shape although a little slower and longer cut than normal. Love this course and will be back.
Beautiful course. Challenging but not too much. Rough is tough to get out of but I'm used to playing up north. Will definitely play here again.
What a surprise
We played 3 rounds in 3days. Had a great experience. Could not believe how nice the course was and how little play it received the 3 days we were their. Could not imagine a better experience for our family weekend. The value was unbelievable compared to other places we have played in recent years. Would definitely go back. Only draw back is it is not near a major city.
Course Needs Work
I've played Veteran's several times. It seems to modulate from Excellent to Fair. This time the green's were very bad - not a lot of grass (in fact I would say they are losing them) and what grass was there was pretty tall - making putting a joke. In fact we started just taking an auto two putt. Lot of grass clipping on and around the fairways - but probably to be expected with all the rain we have been getting in South GA.
a little more work
The course was one of my fav's. but the greens have become just terrible. I really hope they fix them, ireally like to play there.
GREAT LAYOUT
EVERYTHING WAS GREAT EXCEPT THE GREENS THEY WERE VERY BAD . GREAT LAYOUT I HAVE PLAYED THIS COURSE MANY TIMES.
BUT THE GREENS ARE JUST TERRIBLE THEY NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP. IF NOT I WILL GO BACK.
Everything was good but greens. Sanded and not rolled out. Made putting difficult.
Tee to Green outstanding
Absolutely amazing golf course. Only negative is the greens being in transition from winter to summer grass. Tees, fairways, approaches even the rough is in excellent shape and for a course suffering drought conditions that is saying something. The Pro and his staff were top notch. Even gave me the veteran rate and refunded difference between rack rate ( which I paid up front) and vets. Except for the greens, one of the finest courses I've played in Ga. I look forward to coming back when greens grow in.
