Great variety of holes and tee blocks for all levels of play
The course was in great shape , greens were fast and bunkers were in good shape .
Great Afternoon of Gilf
Pace of play was great and course conditions were pretty good.
Course was OK
The course was in about the best shape I’ve seen in 3-4 years. I will say that most sand traps were terrible.
Awesome Golf Course in Southern Georgia
I have been playing here for the past couple of years and I always look forward when in Cordele to play a few rounds here. It is an excellent and well maintained Golf Course. Some holes can be challenging and some holes can be downright difficult. The pace of play is excellent and I love playing this course. I have both walked and taken a cart. It is much easier with a cart but i do love walking when i get the chance. Give this course a shot when in the area. You will love it.
Great course
I was in the area on business and found this gem on GolfNow. Course has a great layout. A good mix of tight and fairly open fairways. Greens are really small compared to what I’m used to playing, but I prefer small greens. My only complaint of the course would be that greens were slow and the fairways were hairy, but perhaps weather hadn’t allowed mowing in a day or two. If this course were close to home, I’d play it every week.
Important note: If you’re relying on the “map it” link in the Golfnow confirmation email to get to the course , it does NOT take you to the course, but to a neighborhood that is 9 miles away.
Great golfing trip
My brother, my friend, & myself played the Ga Vet Blackshear course Sun morning. It has been about 10 years since i have played this course. The course was in good shape, the staff was very friendly & informative, & the golfing was very enjoyable. I look forward to playing this course again.
Great layout
The course was in good shape. The course has an awesome layout. It’s a lot of fun and the staff is very friendly. I would highly recommend this course.
Great Course
I have played this course four times , never disappointed will play it five more times this trip before returning to Seattle.
Very nice layout
The course was a great layout and great value for the money. The greens and fairways could be better but all and all an enjoyable round. Would definitely play again
Great course , good variety of holes
Greens were in great shape , bunkers could use some TLC , played in 2 hours 30 minutes .
Lovely Georgia golf course
The course was in great shape , greens surprisingly fast , bunkers could use a little work but hey they just had a hurricane pass through recently and took out 120 trees . Will play here again soon .
Great time to play Lake Blackshear
Played this course two weeks after Hurricane Michael impacted Cordele with 100+ mph winds. Superintendent and staff are to be commended for a superb recovery effort. The course has been cleared of downed trees and branches, still a few limbs in the wooded areas. Fairways and greens are in excellent shape. Roughs are thick and fringes are well defined. Tee boxes and sand traps need a little attention. Pace of play was great and clubhouse staff were helpful.
HOT round of golf
Was very hot teeing off at 2 pm but worth it. Had the course to ourselves. Course in great shape!! Will play here again.
Very consistent play every time.
This is my go to course for my area, the greens are always in good to great shape. We have received a lot of rain this summer, but the course is still in great shape overall. I don’t have a single complaint, great value for the price.
Bring your bug spray!
This is a pretty fun layout. I played as a single on a Friday morning, and was sent off the 10th tee to allow for faster play. Played the first 14 holes in 2 hours, and the last 4 took 1.5 hours, but such is the life of playing as a single. The course was in reasonable shape, but they had punched the greens (looked like about 7-10 days back), so they provided me a sleeve of used balls as compensation when I checked in. I would have preferred a discount on the green fee, rather than a package of balls they pulled out of the woods, but I guess it was nice of them, they certainly didn't have to do it.
My only real complaint (and one they can do very little to fix) is the bugs. No amount of bug spray is going to keep the gnats off you in the summer in southern GA, so just be forewarned. If the course has a solution to this, they should share it at check-in. I have only played here twice, but it is convenient to north/south travel on I-75, so worth consideration.
Great layout, small greens.
The course is in great condition. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens, all in great shape. The greens are smaller than I prefer. They average 25-30 yards in depth. I tried to call before I came, and it took 3 times before somebody answered the phone. I don't quite understand this as they were not at all busy. I pretty much had the course to myself on a Friday afternoon. I only played there to kill a couple of hours driving home from Florida. I was trying to miss Atlanta rush hour. Played this course in less than 3 hours. Worth the play if the price is right. I paid too much at $25. Golfnow had a hot deal at $11, but I would have had to wait another hour to play. The course has it's moments. Play it and see what you think.
A South Georgia Gem!
This is a challenging course in a beautiful setting.
The staff was top notch, and the pro shop was more than I expected, We will definitely be back.
Great Value !
booked thru GolfNow and saved a ton of $ ... great value for 18 holes with a cart ! ... course was in good shape... played at 09:10 in the morning.... pretty much had the course to ourselves ... played 18 in just over 3 hours...
Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave Lake Blackshear a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars due to the conditions of the bunkers, but will work to make improvements we hope you'll give us another try in the near future.
