Great value
Not a typical state park golf course. Ran more like a country club without the high prices.. plenty of challenging holes, well groomed, and hazards. My wife also enjoyed the course.
Great Lake and course
I played Lake Blackshear today and it was FREEZING COLD! When I played I started at 11:30 and it was barley 40 degrees. Let's just start by saying that Lake Blackshear has some great off course amenities. The place is in the middle of knowwere in little Cordell Georgia. The hotel I stayed at was buetiful and the marina gave a nice touch. The course itself was wonderful and the grass was not dormite. The clubhouse was great and the course had lots of water and payed tribute to the Georgia veterans which is the full name of the course. After the Reno this course is great.

Great layout. Greens are running fast and very true. Great course.
great value
The Course at Lake Blackshear is a hidden gem. Not only a great test of golf but a senic trip through the wooded rolling terrain. I had played there ayear ago and while I loved the layout the overall maintenance left a little to be desired. What pleasent suprise to see the turn around, The course this time was spectacular.
Great course
For the money, hard to beat, always in good shape
Great course, rewarding to stay in the fairway.
Enjoyed the course, I am not use to tall (3") grass at edge of fairway. Challenging to me.. Greens were nice, nothing negative to say
Sad
When you hit your ball in the fairway and bounces one foot into the First cut and you lose your ball, well all I can say is SAD, I lost six balls that landed in the fairway and just did roll in the first cut, dead grass around the greens was REALLY bad also
Excellent course to play
This was an excellent course to play. Well kept in the fairways and the woods were playable but it did have some dead trees which needed to be removed. greens were not the best shape as some were made more of dirt than grass.
Even though this was the only situation and this would not keep me from coming back. Staff was pleasant, especially the young lady in the Pro Shop. Left a club (child's putter) and no one has turned it in. somewhere lost between holes 10-12.
I would encourage others to play this course. You will enjoy it.
Change clothes before you get there, the restroom is really small and no where to change other than bathroom.
Lake Blackshear
Overall not a positive experience. It seems that there were several individuals that stayed at the resort for some days before Sunday, and they were on the course for the last day of their visit. There were more than one 5-some on the course, and I was delayed two different times to the point that I left the course after playing 9 holes. I have played here before and thoroughly enjoyed the course. The course right now is very wet and made driving on the fairways, impossible. The greens are not in the best of shape, with some evidence of winter kill.
Nice track and excellent value
My friends had raved about this place, especially for the quality of golf course you get for the money, and I was not dissappointed. For $23 including cart for 18 holes you cannot beat the value for the quality and condition of this golf course. Course was pretty full, but once we pairedup with the twosome in front of us we had no issues with pace of play. Finished in 4 hours. I am not local to this town, but the back nine was very wet, so they must have had a ton of rain recently. It was really the only thing that made this experience less than perfect. Definite must play though, especially if you are on a serious budget, like me, and like to play great golf courses. I hopefully will return soon and often.
Average course
Played here back to back days while spending one night at The Veterans State Park. The course was in decent shape but there was a lot of room for improvement. The areas just outside the fairways - where I spent a lot of time - left a lot to be desired. There were overgrown shrubs, weeds, limbs, sticks just off the rough. Just not very well maintained. The tees and greens were good for the most part, however, wild grass was creeping in on some of the greens. Some traps were waste areas that had not been manicured. The clubhouse bath had no soap on either day we played. Some ball washers were dry. Finally, on the 12th tee our cart ran out of gas. Had to ride back to the clubhouse with playing partner and get another cart. Was told they were sorry, that they fill the carts with gas every Thursday and must have missed this one. As a side note, this was a last minute golf destination for me and my regular playing partners. We were supposed to go to Santee, SC but canceled due flooding problems.

Although a little wet from recent rains course in good shape from tee to green. Staff went out of way to accommodate our 9 men church outing A good course for all skill levels.
Fun layout but course was not in good condition. Fairway grass too long, greens slow.
The staff is very nice and friendly. The course is a fun layout with several holes along water and with fun caries over water and ravines. However the grass in the fairways was long (looked as if it had not been mowed in a week), greens were VERY slow. Many places around the course with mud and water in the fairways, in front of the greens, etc. My first time playing and next time, I would try a different course in the area as I have not played any of the courses in the area.
Had fun
Very nice course, greens ran true and consistent, fairways are the place to play, hard to get out of trouble and score.
SERIOUS OVERHAUL
Played on Saturday and was amazed of the changes they have made...NEW BUNKERS, NEW CARTS, NEAT AND CLEANED UP from what it was 3 months ago. Greens were rolling pretty decent not to real fast but not slow either. The staff and the golf pro very helpful and went out of their way to explain where everything was.
Golf on the 4th
Greens are looking great, but a little slow
Sand traps need more work.
Good value.
Nice quick round
Veterans
Veterans is a very challenging course from the tips on tee shots. The overall condition is the only downside with below average course maintenance. Bunkers have been recently overhauled but still slow greens.
A great place to play
Love this course, this is my third year here. I'll be back again.
drainage issues are getting better
I play this course often greens are quick and lay of the land makes you think greens will break one way but go the opposite, if you hit in the wooded areas it is difficult to play out of but you shouldn't be in the woods The grounds crew have been correcting drainage issues which is good. The only downfall unplayable bunkers and unmarked irrigation repair on several holes.
Beautiful course
Pleasure to view and play this well maintained course.
