About French Lick Resort
The French Lick Resort is one of golf’s most historic, and esteemed, resorts. It embraces the natural beauty of the Hoosier National Forest in southern Indiana. Guests will have a tough decision choosing where to stay among the 757 guest rooms and suites of The French Lick Springs Hotel (listed on the National Register of Historic Places), the West Baden Springs Hotel (a National Historic Landmark) or the newer Valley Tower (opened in 2019). There are 45 holes of golf, a Callaway Fitting Studio, two spas, a casino, horseback riding, kids’ activities and endless meeting space. The Pete Dye course, host of numerous tournaments, ranks among the most scenic and demanding courses in the country. The classic Donald Ross course provides a nice complement. Beyond the game, there’s seven dining options; an activities center with tennis, pickleball and basketball courts; a bowling alley; arcade; fitness center and outdoor/indoor pools.Facts

Great Finishing Hole Photo submitted by jess34tn on 07/29/2014
It’s been better
I’ve played Sultans 25 times or more through the years. The last 4-5 years it has been in supreme condition. This time not so much. The greens surfaces were spongy and speed about an 8 and not smooth. Lots of sod around the green aprons to correct some turf killed this spring. Great layout and best finishing hole in the Midwest. I don’t like the upcharge for range balls ($7 small bucket). The greens fees are on the high side and should include practice balls.
Hello and thank you for your 5-star rating! We're delighted you enjoyed your round. Please book another round with us soon, and thanks for choosing Sultan's Run Golf Course!

Best course in Southern Indiana
Love every chance I get playing here. Course is always in top shape. Greens are always conditioned. Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming.

Beautiful course in great condition but for me the staff were amazing From the starter to the restaurant staff all incredibly personable and welcoming.

Excellent Course
Sultan’s Run is the most Scenic Golf Courses in the Tri-State area.. Have played it many times and always look forward to the next time.. Everyone is treated well by friendly staff members. The course has had a few weather related small problems this spring, but they are always quick to fix them.. Highly Recommend!

Hello! Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Sultan's Run Golf Course.
Very nice track
I try to play Sultan's Run 2-3 times a year. It is about an hour drive from my house and worth the time. The course is really pretty with hills and valleys, undulating fairways and multi-tiered greens. The bunkers are well maintained. The only reason for a 4 is that some of the fairways are a bare in some spots and they have re-sodded around the greens and it will take some time for them to be back in perfect condition. We played the silver tees and probably could have played the sliver/gold combo with not much more difficulty. All but one person was 65 or over. The really is a don't miss course in Southwestern Indiana.
Thank you for your review! We will pass along your positive experience and feedback to our team at Sultan's Run Golf Course. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Classic Ross
This course is not for the faint of heart. The course appears short from a scorecard perspective, I would say it plays 400-500 yards longer on average, if you are into the wind, good luck. The greens are some of the wildest greens I have ever played. If they mowed the collars down and really had the greens rolling higher than 10, lots of balls would be back in the fairways. These are probably the longest par 3's I have ever played, making it a par 70 adds to the difficulty. I just love classic Donald Ross designs and it is hard finding affordable and kept Ross courses in America that are public. I wish they brought the spring rates back and the food at the restaurant is good. Can't wait to be back. The last 2 times I played here we did 36 with a stop at IU's course. I do not recommend that 36 combo in a day
Apparently, there had been a lot of rain, so it was cart path only for the carts. Understandable, but it made playing very slow and tiring. Most of the fairways looked great from a distance, but when playing off of them, there was very little grass. I am not sure whether this is normal, or a result of the weather, or if these were under repair. The 18th hole is exceptionally beautiful, and the layout and changing elevations of the course makes it interesting and fun. Also, the staff was helpful and friendly. I will definitely plan to play the course again.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your business. Sultan's Run Golf Course thanks you!

Terrific Ross Course
Terrific Ross course that held 1924 pga championship. If you like hilly courses and some wild greens this one is for you.

A Birthday to Remember
Played the course as a gift from my wife. Course is pricey and a forecaddie is mandatory. My caddie was extremely helpful in overall Course navigation.
Course conditions were well below my standards for the price I paid; however, I played the course on opening day. Greens had recently been aerated and this was not relayed to me in advance. As the fees are not altered based on the time of the year one golfs, I recommended not playing early in the season as the course was cart path only, extremely wet, and greens still healing from aerification. I was generous with my rating as the early season conditions did not match the price tag.
There are not many courses in the country or anywhere else in Indiana that are this scenic or hilly. The views seemed to go on forever on my early April round. Be prepared for many uneven lies on this mountain golf course.
Finally I highly recommend staying in the West Baden Springs Hotel as there is nothing like this architectural gem anywhere in the US. The atrium is a step back in time when things moved a little slower and life was meant to be savored!
Amazing.
This place is incredible. Played golf all over the United States and this one made my top five. Immaculate conditions. Course design is fantastic. Caddy was awesome. Pace of play was great. A little pricey but worth it and you get a bag tag, cigar, and bottle of liquor as well. You can also play as much as you want for the one price. We ended up playing an extra 9 holes from the tips which stretch out to around 8100 yards making it one of the longest courses in the country. If you're near here make it happen!
Always Great at Sultan's Run
Played there multiple times and never been disappointed. The course is always in great shape. The staff is second to none. Each and every time the staff makes you feel so welcome and they appreciate that you are playing there. Only downside would be if you are a walker. For most, unwalkable but we always ride.
Worth The Effort To Get Here
Course is one of my favorite Time Liddy courses. It has the Wow Factor for sure. Wild land, terrific layout, undulating greens and typically perfect conditions.
If you are looking for something memorable on great terrain play Sultan's Run.
AWESOME
Course is dynamite. Staff is the friendliest and the food is really good!
Pace of play can be brutal
Staff was relatively friendly. Lack of a driving range probably adds to the pace of play issue. There is a net, though, at the bottom of the parking lot. But nobody used it apparently and there are penal rough areas with thigh high grass which means a lot of time spent hunting for balls. On a cart-path only day like Saturday it all led to a 5+ hour round. This isn’t my cup of tea. Gave up after 15.
Excuse my blasphemy, but the design didn’t wow me. I got the feeling they crammed a few holes in here beyond what the property should house. Lots of adjacent fairways bounded by that ridiculous rough.
I’d only play this on a dry day and/or if I’m first off.
Due to the price point and the resort, this place will continue to be busy. My group would’ve preferred to use the delightful practice area at Valley Links.
Was told that the food here is great.
Such a Classic Golf Course
A very classic golf course in the heart of Indiana. Greens are insane with the undulation. Unfortunately/fortunately the greens were aerated two days before we played so it probably saved a few three and four putts but would like to play it again when they are rolling better. We played it at 6700-6800 yards but it plays 300-400 yards further. The par threes are tough... One was playing around 240 into the wind. Can't remember the last time I had to hit driver on a par three. Has a very classic old timey feel to it. 9 is a quirky hole where the entrance to the course crosses the fairway. My partner and I both shot in the 70s under our handicaps so it was a good day. Dinner at the Hagan restaurant in the clubhouse was also great. Known for their ribs. Only complaints would be slow pace of play, greens being aerated, and no driving range on the property. Definitely a must play!
