About Shanty Creek
The 5,000 acres of Shanty Creek Resorts are spread among three villages - Cedar River, Schuss and Summit, each with at least one golf course, restaurant and accommodations galore. The Summit is arguably home base with the Lakeview Lodge housing the Lakeview Restaurant, the spa and the Legend and Summit golf courses. The resort added the Hawk's Eye course and accommodations across the street in 2021.Facts

Great course
We have played Schuss Mt for years and always enjoy the well maintained course.
Great course, too slow play and conditions a bit rough. Greens too tricked up.
Challenging Fun!
This is a great course! Challenging and beautiful!
Nice staff, fairways had fungus, tricky layout
Checked in early and staff was friendly, provided range balls and got us out 30 minutes early. Played this course about 10x, tricky and challenging . Multiple Fairways on back nine had some sort of fungus but greens were in good shape. Pace of play slowed on back nine. . We were 2 some playing behind another twosome.. a group of 24 in front was slow and Marshall was pushing them along . Back nine took 2.5 hours - painful . For $60 I still felt it was good value . Prefer Schuss and Cedar River though .
The course was poorly maintained. Tee boxes full off broken tees and divits. Grass clippings all over fairways. They probably use most of there grounds crew for there other courses.
3rd time on this course
Course Layout is great. Also great condition.
Only issue we slow play due to a very slow 4-some 3 groups ahead of us.
Always average.
It’s you run of the mill average Up north course. Very limited bar/grill… larger company now owns all the courses there and the new policies are silly. I’d only play any of these courses at a discount. So…it’s just a so/so experience. Not horrible, it just “fine”, nothing to write home about.
Picturesque and challenging
Course was in really good shape. Greens a touch on the slower side but rolled true. Nice Elevation changes and excellent use of the natural landscape. Got a heck of a deal too. 8/10 in my book.
Greens great condition! Great pace of play.
Teed off 1020am as twosome. Played through a foursome and finished in 3 hrs 15 minutes. Greens perfect condition. Fairways needed some divots replaced . Good layout., like the back nine better. Will be back.
Typical resort disappointment
My wife and I played The Legend at Shanty Creek on Monday, August 19. I mention the day of the week as you would not expect a Monday to be so ridiculously slow.
Tee times every 10 minutes is begging for back ups, especially at a resort. 2:39 minutes for the front 9 is not acceptable. We waited on nearly every hole and on every shot for the final 9 holes. The foursome in front never once considered letting us through. A Marshall would have helped speed things up but not once did we see one.
We finally gave up after waiting 12 minutes (timed) on the 18th tee while the group in front looked for lost tee shots less than 100 hundred yards from the tee and quit. A perfect end? Wait there was more. Upon arrival at the bag drop we were greeted by an employee who wiped down clubs, held her hand out for a tip and then we carried our own bags to our car. Not the level of service expected at this resort. We won't be coming back and strongly encourage anyone considering The Legend at Shanty Creek to reconsider their choice. There are several other options in this price range providing a significantly better experience.

About Time
It was nice to see that Shanty is putting some money into the summit. The changes made have been noticeable. New sand in bunkers better cart paths and actually green fairways. For 50 dollars I’ll play again.

Hawk's Eye at Shanty Creek.
Rushed and over booked course.
I’ve been playing Hawk’s Eye almost every summer since 2015 and this course was one of my favorites until yesterday, I will never play Hawks Eye again. If you’re going to charge 90 dollars a round you probably shouldn’t make a four some skip a hole, when the ultimate problem was you scheduled the tee times too close together and a foursome followed by a twosome and then another foursome etc. It’s a beautiful course with epic views but given that most of the courses in the area offer similar views and challenges. I have not been impressed by any of the shanty creek staff or courses. It’s disappointing but for the price I’d rather play the Chief or Aga Ming or Grand Traverse or any of the other amazing courses up here. So disappointed to see the decline is these once amazing courses.
