Schuss mountain
Really like this course. Play a few times a year and it is pretty much in great shape. This past Saturday was probly our most disappointing outing. There were 2 foursomes and a twosome in front of us. We figured it was going to be kind of slow. Well, by the 6th hole the 2 foursomes decided to “join up since they were all friends.” Luckily someone called the pro shop and the ranger went out and split them up. Apparently they were very rude to the ranger. He indicated to us they not only were friends but members. Shame on them who think rules don’t apply to them. I applaud the ranger for calling them out. Thankful they only played 9 holes. We got the back 9 done in less than 2 hours.
Golf Boards
Had an excellent round on the Schuss Mountain course. My son and I used the Golf Boards, which were a fun way to navigate the course. The conditions were excellent and, after the ranger came out, our round was under four hours. The back nine has a lot of elevation changes, so it was much different than our local, flat course. Will play again next year when we are back in town.
Beautiful Day
Course is in great shape. Nice track for any skill level. You can't go wrong.
Great Shape - older design
I've probably played Schuss at least 20 plus times. It had been a couple of years since my last play. In very good shape, has a range to warm up on and you still check in at an aging wood frame proshop with a halfway house in the basement. The front nine has little elevation change and the back has quite a bit. Way too many dog leg left holes(eight of them) several of them quite severe. If you can't draw the golf ball off the tee or hit a fade you'll have extremely long approaches and probably a pretty frustrating day. Greens are quick fast and smooth. It's an interesting course to say the least. A tad under 4 stars but worth a play....if you stay at Shanty you should absolutely play Cedar River, Hawk's Eye and I'd put Schuss in a tie with Legend at this time. For a late afternoon extra 18 the original Summit course is a good value. While Legend might have a better design Schuss is more quirky, interesting and doesn't have really stupid bumpy cart paths like the Legend..
There needs to be a ranger driving the course continuously to monitor playing time. They know what time folks tee off by a card on the windshield of carts, however, nothing is done to monitor slow players. No one should be backed up waiting / watching slower players who refuse to allow better, stronger players to play through.
Would have been nice to know
The course was is great condition and my daughter had a great time. But it would have been nice to know that Schuss offers kids under 17 PLAY FREE with a paying adult!!! But because I paid with Golf Now he could not refund the one round.
Excellent Condition
Don’t have to be a scratch golfer to enjoy this course. One of the courses in the complex that anyone can play. But, there are challenges for the better players as well.
