Shanty Creek

The front 9 is old style late 60's early 70's course and back 9 appears to be added later. The greens, fairways and tee boxes were in terrible shape. The greens had significant slope when greens weren't mowed as short. This causes putts to roll off the greens. Tee boxes typically back were nearly bare and one had sink hole in the middle. Renovations are expensive but the front 9 is lost cause and needs some significant updating that maintenance can't do. Rebuild greens, enlarge tee boxes, cart paths to keep carts away from the greens. I would stay away from this course or use as your first warm up. Just don't expect too much. Better yet expect nothing at all.

Unlike my experience with Cedar River our pace of play was excellent. We did not have anyone within few tee times of us as we managed as 3 some to play the front in little over 2 hours. Took us little longer on the back mainly because we weren't being pushed and not taking our game to seriously.

The layout of the course I really enjoyed typical resort northern Michigan golf course. Elevation changes, big greens and larger fairways. We played in late August and the course appears to have too many rounds as it is beat up a bit. My biggest compliant PACE OF PLAY. 5.5 hours. We were advised at the beginning of the round we should take 4.5 hours. Apparently not everyone agreed and the Ranger was on a hole making sure you kept up with the group in front of you. There are some holes that require you to wait until you can see the group in front of you has moved to the green. So perhaps a bell to let someone know you cleared (we were hit into 2 times and as clearing the Par 3's group behind would start firing away). If you haven't played need to play at least once. I would advise going during the week and not on the weekend. We are advised by ranger that typical time to play both Cedar and the Legend is 5 to 6 hours. Note tee times are 10 minutes apart so it's not like they throw too many people on the course at the same time.

I would not pay full price. But at a Golf now price it’s well worth it Golf course Is well taken care of but does not have a signature hole

This is a great course in terms of manicure and layout, but it is not worth the amount they are charging. There is no governance over pace of play and it seemed as though there were many inexperienced golfers, which is not conducive to the course level of play.

We will not go back! Although we really enjoyed the pub staff and cart girl Kyli!

Challenging design and well taken care of. Ranger was kind to keep me satisfied with some that were slower. I have played here 4 or 5 times and it is my favorite course in the area for my Michigan vacations.

I was looking forward to playing this course today but was extremely disappointed in the pace of play. Ranger did not do much to improve the pace until I called and spoke with the pro in the pro shop. Finally the foursome backing up the entire course started picking up the pace after that. This should have happened much sooner and not toward the end of our round. Ranger seemed quoted annoyed with our complaints and not the foursome backing up the course. I do not plan on playing this course anytime in the near future.

Found hot deal for $26 each at 9am. 2 couples played in 3 hours 50 minutes - . All good. Friendly guy cleaned clubs. Hot dogs 4.75 and snacks for 3.25 - poor value. . Course in very good condition . Layout OK. Definitely worth the price we paid!

The course is narrow and not for the faint of heart. Overall the course has been in better shape in the past, but still in good shape.

Course was a little wet from the rain but greens were excellent condition. Rolled extremely true. Very good value for the price.

Great course. I look forward to returning and playing this course again.

Asked in the clubhouse if there is beverage cart service. Was told there was. Never saw her. Asked a ranger to send her our way when we saw him on 3rd hole. Never saw her. Halfway house closed. Course does not loop anywhere near clubhouse at the turn. Saw Ranger again on 15, was very rude when we asked him about the beverage cart. Not the service or friendliness I would expect from a resort golf course. Very dissapointing

The layout of this course is pretty cool, standard up north Michigan course. It was just so disappointing to play in a twosome and have the round take near 6 hours. There were several group in front of us who seemed like it was their first time golfing and had no idea what pace of play is. Then they sent out the head pro because we called and told him they were playing each hole in 25-30 min. He drives up to us and just tells us there’s nothing he can do because there’s too many groups. Well buddy you shouldn’t have overbooked the course. Also the greens were very average. Wouldn’t recommend this course to anyone.

The course was amazing. From tee-boxes too greens, it all looked great. The only downside was, the food was a little on the high price. Hotdog was $4.75 but no drink or chips. Nothing special about the hotdog. Other then that, perfect golf course.

If you haven’t played Hawk’s Eye, it’s a must

Some deep Bunkers though, Perfect fairways & Greens.....lots of Elevation changes 200-300ft

Great views & plenty of Wildlife.

I thought the value was good, We jumped on a Hot Deal, and got to go out as a twosome, Pace of play was no problem as the caliber of Golfers was good.....Staff was very friendly....You’ll love it

My friends said to play Hawks Eye so I Purchased the hot deal off Golf Now since I have wanted to play this course for the last three years. We played on a Monday morning and were able to play a twosome and play at a good pace for twelve holes. The foursome ahead of us really slowed down on the back nine but ended up quitting so we were able to finish on our pace. The course is outstanding and the greens very large and receptive. It will help to know the greens next time since they have lots of slopes and elevation changes

What a great course. Staff friendly. I was so impressed by this layout. Literally most of the holes could be their signature. Every hole was by itself and the elevation change was impressive. I would definitely recommend.

Enjoy the elevation changes, but keep your ball on the fairway for a fun round!
