Challenging Course
We played Cedar River and The Legend before taking on Hawk's Eye.
The conditioning wasn't quite as good as the other two (seemed to be a little crabgrass and a few dandelions here and there) but it was still very nice.
I thought the layout was good...but make sure you play the right tee boxes. This was a good example of a course that could have used "composite" tees. The whites were way too long for me at 6300 yards and the yellow tees seemed a little short at 5600. It seemed like a lot of these holes played harder than their yardages...three of the four par threes were playing at over 180 yards and it seemed as though a lot of the holes played uphill (we also were getting no roll because of rain overnight).
I also seemed to find a sand trap on almost every hole.
Overall, I would definitely play this course again. It was a great value for the money.
Beautiful Course
I was pleasantly surprised with The Legend. I was expecting Cedar River to be spectacular (and it was)....but The Legend was a phenomenal golf course too. Spectacular views of Lake Bellaire on a couple holes add to the beauty. Plenty of elevation change to give it some character.
Great Golf Course
I’ve played most of the nicer public courses in Michigan...this one ranks right up there with any of them. Extremely playable, scenic, and in great condition.
Beautiful course
Virtually no one playing course but us. Great conditions, beautiful greens, perfect tees staff very friendly. Probably one of the golf gems in upper Michigan. We have played this course numerous times and have never been disappointed . Fantastic course layout with interesting holes. Woods, heather, water you name it they have it. Cedar River hole is fun to play!
Disappointed
I've played Hawk's Eye at least a dozen times and it's a beautiful layout.....but in an area full of beautiful courses it sure would've been nice to know that the greens had been prepared for winter and were not very playable....would've chosen another course having said that customer service was the worst I've ever seen....girl in the pro shop didnt know what she was doing and the girl in the snack bar was worse...called to order something for the turn on 9 tee and was voice mailed and told to leave a message....wth!
The day we played was the last day of the year for the S. Mountain course to be open, the course was in pristine condition! Greens were great, layout was enjoyable. I played with my wife who had the best time she's ever had on a golf course thanks to the GolfBoards we rented instead of a cart. These things are amazing! Worth playing solely to use these awesome rides! Only complaint would be that we got stuck behind a couple of slow foursomes but that meant we could take our time and she didn't feel rushed (she's a beginner so it was a fair pace for her).
Beautiful Course
Very impressed with the staff. Course layout was fantastic. They had just aerated the greens. Did not get to experience the true guality of the greens. The staff did warn us about them. Enjoyed the par 3's. Like to play it again.
Hawks Eye Bellsire Michigan
Beautiful course. Nice layout. We enjoyed playing it.
Great course!
Played on a hot Saturday afternoon and never waited on a hole. Course was in great shape. Only negative would be to have balls supplied on driving range. $7 for a bucket when you have paid for a round of golf isn't necessary
Great course
The course is in great shape and is lots of fun to play. It does have some challenging holes but are not that difficult, which we really enjoy.
You'll love it!
We stumbled upon this little gem while in the area. We play several courses in the immediate vicinity of the Schuss Mountain Course. Courses that are priced at 3 times the fees for this one. This course offers slight challenges. Plays very tight (you have to hit them straight). It was constructed in 1972, so it has matured. It will always be a course we return to as we finish up our golfing season.
Awesome Course
This was an incredible experience. I enjoyed the course and my wife enjoyed the scenic views of the woods and homes!!!! Unreal. I would play this course anytime!!
what a treat!
The course layout is challenging, many elevation changes, yet fair. Greens are difficult, very moundy, hard to read, quick, but rewarding. Can't say enough wonderful things about the staff. Our only problem was that on the back nine, it appeared a foursome started on 10, old coots, didn't much care if they held anybody up, apparently thought they owned the course themselves. This is our second time playing this course and loved it twice as much as we did the first time. Would highly recommend to golfers of every type. Look forward to playing it again next summer on vacation.
Alternate green holes /flags were confusing
Course was in excellent shape. First time playing the course I found it difficult to determine where to go with the cart between holes and where the actual "normal" green holes were located.
Summit uses various size putting holes to make it easier for people to putt and so when you look toward the green you see 3 different flags. It was not obvious on all holes on which side of the green you should drive your cart toward.
Course has a tremendous number of hills and the green (were in good shape) but penalized you for not landing in the center of the green. I had 5 balls that landed 5-10 feet onto the green only to roll all the way off - sometime back toward me other times off to the side. You should not be penalized for a good shot just because it's not a perfect shot. Green had a lot of break and if you were not in a perfect location you were probably going to 3 put - That is not fun.
I would play it again at a discount rate but not at the going rate - it's too much a "miniaturesque" golf course. A course to play if you don't care to score.
Young folks in the proshop and carts were OK but not very enthused about working that day.
Beautiful course
This was an awesome course! It was raining and cold most of the round but I didn't stop because I wanted to keep playing! Rolling hills and elevation drops are the greatest characteristics of this course! Pretty challenging greens as well, some are pretty big in size.
Mostly Good - some bad
Great terrain and course lay out- I don't know who John Robinson is but this a memorable golf course with some great holes and unlike The Legend has some room of the Tee and most of the holes are right in front of you.
The staff that was there was friendly and the restruant has very limited menu and was understaffed. The chili was good and so were the club sandwiches at the turn, but they took 15 minutes to make them
No beveridge cart on the course and no bag service afterwards
The greens are complex, have a lot of buried elephants and were hard and fast, so some pin placements were impossible to get close with chips and even sometime putts and a few were just flat ridiculous if you get on the wrong side.
My biggest complaint thoough were the bunkers. They are full of rocks! Big, small and tiny and many of the tiny ones end up on the green after people blast out and can knock your putts off line if you don't clean them all. Every bunker needs to be redone with USGA SAND
Average layout, but near perfect condition
Played here because we didn't want a crowded, difficult course for my wife to play. We were scheduled to be paired with two others, but the very nice starter got us off by ourselves, and we were able to play through two other groups.
First off, the day was perfect, and the course in near perfect conditions.....smooth, fast greens, perfect fairways, raked bunkers.
For guys, it is difficult to pick a tee to play. The white tees are over 6,500 yards, which is long for most players, while the silver tees are only 5,600. I picked the silver, and on the front nine it was difficult to pick a club and line off the tee.......dog legs at 160-200 yards, worry about hitting it too far, but could not see what was around the corner in most cases.....and then after hitting less than driver, you had a 150+ second shot. Front was tight and kind of confining, and flat. Back nice opened up a bit, and was more playable...more hills, prettier and more fun.
Overall an ok resort course for couples.
