Hawk's Eye Great
Played Hawk's Eye on a Tuesday afternoon in October.
Weather was great, course was beautiful.
The Legend lives up to its name
Golfed The Legend at Shanty Creek for the first time October 7, 2015.
Course is absolutely beautiful and very fun to play.
We had the course to ourselves with a tee time @ 12:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon.
Each hole brought a new challenge for an average golfer like me.
Through Golfnow.com we got a really reasonable rate. Fall is the perfect time to play a course of this stature.
Great time as always
Played in great conditions at a great pace of play at a great golf course. What more could you ask for. Only criticism would be pin positions were not clear and varied from what graphics on card indicated. Other than that, it's a go back destination.
Hi Vaughn3129624,
Thanks for leaving a great review. We are happy you found the course in great condition, we try our best to keep it that way! We can't wait to have you back!

Great Course Up North
Very good condition. True Greens. Real nice course to play - can be a little tough if you don't use the fairways!
Nice Course
This is a really nice golf course. The fairways are kept up beautifully. The greens are large and well manicured. It was fun golfing here. The trees were just starting to turn for fall and it was quite cool and breezy, but we enjoyed it none-the-less.
GLC - Good Looking Course
The weather was cool but the course was in great shape and this was after an overnight rain. Fairways and greens were in very good condition. Rough grass was a little high -- again, after an all night rain. This is a very nice Up North course with scenic views. Fairways are wide enough so no excuses. On the short 13th hole, lay short of the front bunkers or you're in trouble.
Great Course - Needs player care
The course is a great example of a resort course. It's not just this course but almost every course you play. The players don't take care of the course. There were large divots all over the fairways that were not repaired or even an attempt to repair. The same goes for the greens, plenty of ball marks not repaired. It's a shame as this is a beautiful course that's worthy of playing over and over.
Awesome post Aerification round
They aerified greens on Monday and it was Wednesday when we played. Greens were sandy but still very playable and in really good shape with just 2 days post punch. Weather has been perfect and today was no change. Staff was awesome and course was more picturesque than I thought it was going to be. Some really great views from tee boxes and driving around the grounds. Will for sure be back and play what I was told is the more well-known back 9 holes.
Getting Overplayed by Resort Guests
Cedar River is one of my all time faves in Northern Michigan. That being said while the course is in very good shape it's showing some signs of wear and tear (not poor maintenance but by resort guests not repairing/sanding divots or repairing ball marks properly). The Legend was in excellent shape....Cedar was just a tad below. Pace of play was an issue for us because there was a clueless 3 some of 1st timer resort guests a couple of tee times in front of us. A two foursome ladies league actually played around them skipping 10 and 11 and then we were stuck behind them. On the 18th tee as we pulled up one of the resort guests told me they had been waiting all day for the group in front of them. Funny because the entire par 5 18th in front of them was empty. I never miss a round at Cedar - a fantastic Weiskopf design....just too bad the resort guests don't care about taking care of the course and think they are entitled to a 5 hour plus round on a Thursday morning.
Outstanding Conditions
Other than the pace of play (which stunk.....slow playing 1st timer/resort guests) the Legend was in great shape. Tees, fairways, traps well maintained and the greens were smooth and quick. High handicappers will shoot 20 shots higher easily.....very challenging scenic track routed like a figure eight that's held up well over time....with impeccable conditions!
Awesome layout!
The course has many demanding shots to make, which makes it a challenge. There are many holes with serious elevation changes. The only downside is pace of play. If you have 5 hours plus to play this course, check it out.
Exceptional Experience
The course was in very nice condition. The entire staff was wonderful and very accommodating. The pace of play was very slow but not so aggravating because the course is very beautiful.
Hi brianb61,
Thanks for taking the time to leave a review! We are happy to hear our staff was so great to you. We are sorry the pace of play was very slow, but happy to hear you were still able to enjoy your time. We hope to see you soon.

nice, but staff sucks
The course is well maintained. It is challenging. However, we were behind a foursome that had 3 vacant holes in front of them and the rangers would do nothing about it. We played as a threesome, so I realize we were quicker, but really..... it was ridiculous. Over 5 hours for a threesome is a bit much. Would not recommend unless you have a foursome, unfortunately . The ranger made every excuse in the book but failed to do his job.
Finally able to complete a round here
I have come to this course twice in four years, but never finished secondary to darkness or weather. Got allthe way through this time and really enjoyed it! Ran into some congestion on the last four holes, and the twosome behind us were lacking golf etiquette, by talking loudly and playing the radio (get earplugs, dummy! Life doesn't have a soundtrack!) challenging greens, but beautiful natural views; the wind made club selection thoughtful. A great course to play, we drove down from Boyne (visiting from Ohio.)
Hi doctorsteve,
Thank you for taking the time to review our course. We are happy you were able to finish the round this time! We are sorry that twosome behind you weren't following Golf etiquette. We wish there was more we can do.
We hope to see you soon!

Beautiful course.
Had some difficuty adjusting to the fast greens.
Fairways very forgiving.
fairways very forgiving.
Nice Course - A little long from the whites
Greens were fair and in good condition. Fairways and tee boxes were fine. 6,300 yards from the whites is a little long for us seniors -- need another tee box, maybe golds -- 5,800 to 6,000 yards.
This course Is beautiful, challenging with many elevation change, a must play.
Challenging golf course with beautiful up north view.
Nice Round
I played on a Saturday evening for $35 per person. Our foursome practically had the course to ourselves. I have not played many of the Northern Michigan resort courses so I cannot compare this course to others. But I was very pleased with the round. The course is set off the main road. The atmosphere is tranquil. The course is surrounded by natural scenery. There are frequent elevation changes and excellent views from some of the raised tee boxes. I will surely play this course again if I'm in the area.
Hi TimothyBaywal,

One of the nicest courses I've played in northern Michigan, I was pretty wet but it has rained a day before. Tough course for 1st play
