Absolutely beautiful
On and off rain. But decided to play. What a challenge with great views. Exciting drops in elevation with well manicured greens and fairways. Tees for all levels of skill. Will definitely come back and highly recommend for all who want a great golf experience.
Smooth Greens
The greens were smooth and fast. Played the small cups, the large cups were interesting. We didn't see anyone playing the HACK setup.
Last minute
Woke up in gaylord ready to head home. Golf now email offered tee time for 53.00 fire sale. We jumped on it and ended our golf weekend at a great northern michigan course. Course ranks up there with forest dunes, Sundance and Hidden River.
Will for sure be playing at shanty creek resorts Cedar River. TRULY BREATH TAKING!
Good value, worth the drive from TC
I got a great hot deal on golf now for this course for a Sunday afternoon round. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Every single employee seemed to have a genuine smile on their face.
The driving range is pretty cool looking as you hit balls into a valley below you. The area in which you tee off is pretty rough. It was tough to find an untouched section of turf. The putting green near the first tee box is nice and give a great feel for how the greens run on the course.
The course itself is a good test as there are a lot of elevation changes and both wide and narrow fairways. Many of the holes are picturesque as the course has very few houses on it and it truly feels like you are out in the wilderness. The pin placement on the day I played was tough. Most of the pins were only two or three paces off of the edge of the green and there were no true gimmies as there are vey few straight putts.
The greens were running slow and certain parts of them appeared to be "fuzzy." The tee boxes on the par 3's were very tore up. It was almost impossible to tee off between the markers without hitting in or nearly in a divot.
The pace of play was slow bordering on extremely slow. As a 4-some, it nearly took us 5.5 hours to finish. Our 4-some included a new player, a guy who golfs several times a year, a guy golfs maybe once a year, and me. Even with our lack of playing experience, we still were waiting on nearly every hole on the back 9. There was a ranger on the course who checked on us multiple times and even offered us some water while we were waiting.
The course winds WAY away from the clubhouse. I usually walk when I golf and I would NEVER attempt to walk this course. If you want drinks and/or snacks, grab them from the clubhouse before you head out to the course. We only saw the beverage cart twice throughout our round.
The drinks and food at the bar were great. My girlfriend raved about the wrap she had. The bbq pulled pork was also very good.
Overall, the hot deal made it worth the drive to the course and to put up with some of the inconveniences. My group was content and glad we gave it a chance.

Great deal!
Nice conditions. Greens roll true and balls stick.
Not a bad hole on the course! So much fun to play!
Cedar River is in perfect condition from tee to green. Nothing tricky about the greens or the holes. There are few holes (5 and 10) that require the golfer to drive up to see below the hill to understand how best to hit the next shot. All of us thoroughly enjoyed playing the course and would do it again and again.
Excellent day of golf
The course is gorgeous and challenging but fair. Every hole had a picturesque view from the tee. It was worth the 2+ hours drive to play it.

Classic Up North Course for all levels!!
My grandparents owned a house on the 2nd home for about 25 years, and the "old course" at SC has always had a place in my heart. I took my girlfriend who is just learning there and we played from the forward tees and used the 10 inch cups. We had a great time and this course can be played very easy for beginners or challenging from the tips... $18 with cart in the afternoon is tough to beat... Head down to Shorts in downtown Bellaire afterwards for great food and the BEST craft beer in Michigan!!
Beautiful course
Great course - bring extra balls as the woods will eat them repeatedly if you have an errant shot
Golf now $44 is s great value
No driving range

Very good layout with premium on accuracu
A fun challenging golf course where you can use all the clubs in your bag. Greens in fair condition. Wide variety in tolo
Bunkers are the worst I've seen
Greens were slow and the bunkers are filled with rocks/gravel, not sand. Our foursome waited on every single shot. No ranger on the course. Schuss Mountain and Cedar River are a WAY better value. I will not be returning to the Legend.
"O. You are from Golf Now."
Pulling up to the place you are Wow! This is nice... The as we walked inside no one said hi at all... The pro shop guy was just plan RUDE! As like we did not belong there due to the fact we used golf now.. Ok?? Maybe it's just a bad day...Then as we get book in I go back to the car to load up my clubs... Cart guys just down right jerks ... They asked if I would take my clubs out of the car to load them.. I responded I'll load them thank you, they are very expensive... He then proceeded to mumble something and drive away.... Really I have to carry my clubs 250 yards down hill... Thanks.. And one the first hole my buddies bag fell off the cart as it was not strapped in good. Chipped n scratched 2 of his clubs..they didn't care... We have be gone 2 minutes .. Nope don't care , not responsible ...??Course was very nice. Green fairways, slow greens. ... Again it's Sunday and its 88 degrees out... Ok kinda thirsty... Where is the beverage cart??? 9 holes no cart... Then we are ready for another 9... Well still no beverage cart... Really ok... So we get our own.. No coolers so u don't want to get a lot or they beverages get warm.. 9 more holes no beverage cart... Wow... No thank you... Thought the one guy was having , nope staff was well... Under par.. Bad over all. Damaged clubs, bad service... Never again even if it was free....
Moldy Cart Seats
It is a nice course. The staff was friendly but the golf cart seats were all moldy. I wouldn't play there again until I knew the cart seats didn't have black mold all over them.
Hi njngolf,
Thanks for your review. It's concerning to hear that the seats on the golf cart were not up to par. At Hawk's Eye we strive to provide the best experience on the course possible and we never want anyone to have a bad experience. Great track. Free balls !!
Cedar River is a great course. Despite being stuck behind 3 groups of senior women (which by the way courses should prohibit from happening!), it was an enjoyable day; made better by the free golf balls on hole 7.
18 Great Holes
Fantastic layout with great hole design after great hole design! One green in rough shape and par 3 tee boxes were pretty beat up but most of course was immaculate.
Played it on a Wednesday with very little play but did slow down a bit toward end..not the courses fault as landing areas are pretty forgiving.
One of best layout we've played, anywhere!

Great value, great layout, great conditions!
It started out great and Mark in the pro shop was phenomenal!!! It was a super hot day but we only saw the bev cart twice. That was the only thing I can note. The greens were firm and fair and the fairways were in great shape too. A couple if tee boxes were a bit tore up and needed some attention. Thanks again to Mark for getting us out early and for the hospitality!

Hawks Eye
The course is a great value, we hardly saw anyone else on the course, the fairways are wide but challenging and the greens were modera fast, however a couple look like they still are recovering from some winter kill. Over all the course is great.

Great course. Challenging layout. But enough space for minor shot mistakes. Recommended.

Foot golf takes away from course
Course was nice, however foot golf and larger holes took away from the course.
