Very tough course
If you like narrow fairways, lots of houses, and crazy terrain then this is the course for you. It is wonderfully maintained yet very tough to play.
Pace of Play Was Unnacceptably Slow
I left after finishing the front 9 because the pace of play was so slow. I'd be standing on the tee box for 10-15 minutes while the group in front of me watched from the fairway the group in front of them on the green. It was not enjoyable. I went to the pro shop and received a credit but I'm honestly relectant to go back. It's not a convenient drive and I don't want to waste my day again.
Mediocire
What a disappointing course. I read all of the reviews prior that made this sound like such a great course but was more than let down. They keep zero maintenance on this course. They say it is 18 holes but it is really 9 holes that you will play twice and will not refund you if you don't play the 9 holes again. They implement 0 rules as they allowed groups of 5+ to play and it more than ruined the pace of the game. I wouldn't recommend this course to my worst enemy.
Not worth the $
I really don't like this course listed below are only a few reasons why.
A- Toooo expensive. The tee times alone are $110 on a Saturday, but as if that isn't enough they charge you a $3 "resort" fee, which you have no choice but to pay. A beer is $6 or more. A bottle of water is $3. When you pay over $100 for a tee time you should be taken care of, not taken advantage of.
B-play is almost always slow bc the walk from the cart to many tee boxes and many greens is very far.
C- the course meanders its way through an enormous development. It's doesn't feel like one course, it's like you are playing 4 or 5 different courses. Also, the cart ride from 3 to 4, 9 to 10, 11 to 12 and 17 to 18 is well 400 yards. It's annoying, time consuming and NOT indicative of a course that charges $100 + for a tee time
D- the staff is unfriendly, I was treated like a tourist that is never going to play there again. I would highly recommend skipping this course unless you like over paying for mediocre golf and amenities.
Everything I wanted in a golf course
I played this course at an MGA "Play-Day" event. The course was in a great shape. I seldom play greens as fast as these (most courses on Long Island don't roll them this tight), so putting was a challenge, but that's a good thing not a bad thing. I found the course layout perfect. I normally carry a driver 270-280 so there was a lot of use with the driver off the tee, but I was also able to use 3W on a few holes and even something less on others. It's long, but some holes make you think about the approach. I played from the blue tees.
My only grip would be the bunkers. It seemed as though there were different types of sand used in the bunkers and some bunkers needed to be filled badly. Also, perhaps better signage for carts as there are long distances between holes. We got a little lost trying to find the 16th tee, a par 3. Other than that I found the course to be fantastic and look forward to perhaps staying at one of the resorts in the future.
in beautiful hilly country, this is an ugly course
Don't get me wrong. The course is reasonably well maintained. Tees, fairways and greens were all in at least average shape or better. But there is something lacking in the aesthetics of this course. The signature hole (7) a par 3 over water. Well the water is this murky shade of grey probably left over from some mining activity and the backdrop are all these high voltage electric lines that run straight thru the heart of the course. And the design seems very forced. Many times you can't park your cart near the green and sometimes you have to double back over the same cart path to get to the next hole. It is not hilly really since you are going along the valley but the sides of every hole seem to be hilly. And the course always seems to be parched in the areas that the sprinklers don't reach since i guess all the water runs down to the valley. I guess i would play here again if it were the only option but, for a resort course, it gives you the feeling you are on a muni.
Highly Disappointed
I haven't played here in a few years and figured I would give it another chance. When I arrived in the clubhouse I explained a unique situation I had to the kid behind the counter, he basically blew me off and had no interest in providing good customer service (around 3:00pm on 6/15). Acted like he was doing me a favor checking me in? The over priced track was in fair condition. Very little grass on the fairways, tee boxes were bare in a lot of spots. Bunkers were horrible, like cement. Greens were good and the Rangers were very polite and friendly. Yesterday was the last time I'll drive that far to be annoyed and disappointed. Certainly not worth the money or time! Go elsewhere imo
Good shape, horrible design
This course is probably the least fun golf course I've ever played. It's incredibly narrow with houses lining most holes. Some holes we didn't know where the fairway was or where the hole was going. There were giant boulders literally 5 feet off the green so any slightly errant shot could hit one and kick it 50 yards away. It's a truly horrible layout. The conditions were decent as the greens were smooth albeit slow. I proudly say I'll never play this course again...once was one time too many.
Great Course
The course is in great shape and the layout is fantastic. Worth the hour drive to play there.
poor maintenance
conditions were way off previous years standards. greens shaggy and way too slow. downhill putts stop like you were putting on velcro. sand traps were muddy, rocky, no sand. very disappointed given past good experiences especially.
Great layout
Great course a challenge for every level of player
Ok but..
First - I like the course design and the facility. Very scenic.
But I was annoyed with the pace of play and the requirement this day for cart path only as the course was dry and "cart path only" very much degrades the pace of play.
Good value for the money. Some par 4s are short which gives thought to something but the drive which is good.
Great course
If your in the area you should play here some challenging holes
What A Steal
Really..... 20 bucks..with a cart.. Hot DEALS.... ii was told this couse needed a little work but that comment was off base.. this course had very true greens and clean fairways.. open room for us long hitters...staff was great (i was 20 min late)..
cascades golf
I love this course, 9 holes that play really well, BUT when you get stuck behind a group of 6 plus an instructor playing "foot golf" it is both frustrating and unfair. If I pay for golf I do not want to deal with soccer players.
Strange test of golf at Crystal Springs
While a tight course running through a housing development in the hills can be found in a lot of places Crystal Springs goes that one further and deploys mounds not just on the side of the fairways but right in the middle of most fairways as well. The result sometimes really penalizes good shots and unfairly rewards some poor shots. While there are some beautiful holes and vistas (namely #11) the overall feel is that you are looking at cheaply constructed town homes for the most part. The conditioning is ok but not spectacular. Grass is cut unevenly in many spots probably due to the effect of all those mounds. Lots of big rocks around greens as well that give it a sort of gimmicky feel. While it didn't feel like play was very slow the round ended up being 5 hours probably due to the 30 minutes of driving to the next tee box.
Resort Golf Near Home
Awesome Layout. Just be mindful of your ball selection because you can lose many of them. Be prepared for a long round. Crystal stacks tee-times way too close, so you always get backed up. Greens need some work as they seem really slow. Good bit of ground under repair but at least that shows they care. Course price is great value if you can get a reduced rate. Clubhouse bar is a ripoff.
Good for the price
Not to bad for what you pay but the course is nothing super special. Greens are slow, tee boxes aren't great.
Very memorable experience
golf course are just beautiful
Very good condition and good facilities
