Crystal Springs Golf Club
About
Crystal Springs Golf Club in Hamburg touts a reputation of being not only the most challenging golf course in New Jersey, but also one of the most challenging layouts east of the Mississippi. The site filled with water after its use as a limestone quarry in 1929, which formed the natural springs on the 10th hole that the course is named after. The layout is definitely a shot-maker's course. Carefully sculpted mounding that frames the fairways and greens defines each hole. There is also tall and gnarly rough treacherously guarding the tight fairways. The golf course sits just a few miles from New Jersey's highest point, sprawling across an undulating terrain that makes it difficult to find an even lie. One of the most notably difficult, and subsequently the most talked about, holes is the 11th. The hole is perched atop a cliff overlooking the Windsor Quarry.

Crystal Springs Golf Club
Overall a great course that is in great shape, challenging and a very good staff. Feels like you’re playing at a country club.
Beautiful scenic course
Five stars challenge hole perfect maintenance
This is my favorite golf course
Stunning New Jersey Golf Course
This is a difficult course for a beginner however the views are stunning!
Awful 4 people before our group
Almost 6 hours golf rounding.
Every holes we got to wait for playing our turn.
There was no a ranger to control slower players to hurry.
I shouted couple of times to make them to move on but I didn’t want to make me more crazy feeling because of them.
I let them playing whenever they were taking. It made us near 6 hours rounding.
Green were so bumpy and slow. I’ve been playing so many times in this course every season. I’ve never gotten this experience ever before.
I recommend to golfers who may want to go this course.
You need to go after few more weeks. They may maintain more good conditions than now.
Overrated and disappointing
Nowhere near worth the price. Pace of play is terribly slow, tee boxes are beat up and unlevel, greens are slow and full of ball marks and dead spots. The halfway house should be burned to the ground and replaced with a vending machine, they are working one poor old lady to the bone and it takes 20 minutes to get a burger and a drink. Whats sad is the staff knows how poor the course is but the owner wont improve the conditions.
Average at best
Carts really sucked! GPS doesn’t work. This course needs a huge signage upgrade too. We got lost several times. The layout is confusing. They have a nice restaurant/bar but we felt uncomfortable and out of place since they had most of it reserved for a wedding. Halfway house was decent though. It was relatively cheap and there were plenty of tee times available. Otherwise, not coming back.
Pretty but SLOW,
Booked the course and dinner after. The course is challenging, hilly to say the least. The sand traps need TLC, (sand), in terrible shape. Played the 1st 9 in 2 hours. As we got to 12th hole say people ahead. Ultimately it was high school age kids running around course with 1 golf bag and 4 people. We waited patiently thinking someone would come by and throw them off. By the 14th hole I drove ahead to same something. They ran ahead and by the time we got to 15th they were out there in the middle again. Also came across 2 gentlemen that walked onto course at another hole. At least when they saw us coming, they left. The back 9 took 3 hours and 40 minutes to complete. Frustrating to say the least.
Hidden NJ Gem
Course was fabulous!!!!
Played Crystal Springs with Son and friends
Challenging for sure
Suggest a scramble style play, unless your a low handicap golfer
Tight fairways, bring extra balls
Course in fantastic shape
Cart girls were awesome, always available
Only negative
Cart girls should carry some sort of food or snacks
Or at very least halfway house should have food
Not Like Old Times
I hadn't played Crystal Springs in many years since it opened. The course remains generally nice but it and the grounds have matured quite a bit and are in need of a refresh. The course doesn't get the attention it should. Lots of ground under repair, cart paths are in rough shape, mostly dirt in the traps etc. The greens were pretty good and rolled at a nice pace. Overall a good day and I'd probably it play again sometime.
Great golf course but not always @100%
Course is great but not always up to par. Last time we played we had a cart die on 4th hole and had to wait for
Someone to bring out an another. This time out the range was closed for the first part of the morning
Beautiful
It's very hard course to play but very fun. Beautiful place and perfect view.
