No there yet
In fairness to the new owners, the course had been shut down for 3 years and has a long way to go. The greens on the front have a lot of damage where there is no grass. The back 9 is a little better. Lot of crab grass in the rough, bunkers need a lot of work (new sand would be in order). and too many bare spots on the fairways. The staff is great. Always have been from the Sea Oaks days. It's a tough situation in that I am sure the new owners want to generate some revenue. In the meantime, it's a grassy area to go hit the ball around. These are the same owners of the Renault Winery Course. I am rooting for them to be successful over the long haul because the area needs higher level public course.
Bunkers galore
Fair and hard. Bunkers are strategic. Lots of forced Carrie’s. Spongy greens but smooth. Tree lined and little water except par 3s. A good fair challenge.
Fairways need a lot of work. Tee boxes and greens were in good shape though.
Great layout.
Tee boxes in poor condition as are some areas in fairways. Hope they can renovate these problems, because it can be a very good course.
Good conditions after being closed for two years
Happy LBI National (formerly Sea Oaks) is open again.
The course has a great routing and a fair degree of difficulty.
The course conditions were surprisingly good, considering the course has been closed for 2 years, and we had a lot of rain the night before we played. It was Cart Path Only..
Although there were a number of areas that needed repair on the Tee boxes, fairways and greens, all these will be corrected after we have a fall and spring rowing season and they can cut and fertilize the course.
Amenities other than golf (food, bar, AC in the main building) were lacking, but the new owners are committed to upgrading all the facilities and are in the middle of a $4+Million renovation that is expected to be completed in 2023.
Play it now if you can, but it should be even better in 2023.
Enjoyable Round
Played as a single and met 3 golfers with similar skill level. Heavy rain the night before had golf path only in effect. Course is in good condition and a move layout. Investment in new range balls would be nice and I look forward to a return off off course amenities.
My new favorite course
Generous fairways with 18 interesting holes. Plays fair. What you see is what you get. Greens play straighter than they look..
Go Play⛳️
Play LBI National (formerly Sea Oaks) you won’t be disappointed!! Friendly staff & a great course!
course difficulty
course in great condition but access to greens very difficult for an 86 year old. Next time I will request a handicapped flag for cart to minimize need for long walks to greens.
Needs some TLC
Rough needs water. Some greens have large brown out spots. Fungus??
LBI National
So glad to see this course reopen!
It’s coming along nicely!
We’ll return, for sure!
