Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

Good value
Challenging, well maintained except for the sand traps. Extremely scenic.
Windy but Great Shape
First time I played this course and was with my wife. Considering the difficult shape most other courses are in from this summer's weather this course was in excellent condition. Fairways were well maintained with only a rare bare spot. Greens were pristine though tough to read the breaks. The course plays very long from the tips due to the wind which we were told always blows at this course. As it was our first time playing the course some of the holes were a bit challenging to navigate but felt layout would be pretty straightforward if we played a second time.
I love playing at great gorge. Excellent accommodation
Great Gorge Again!
This is one of my favorite golf course here on North Jersey. . Louis, the starter was exceptional and very systematic in handling the tee times. . Played the course in just 4 hours..Fairways and greens are in good shape .
Conditions OK
Fairways and Greens are well manicured but the tee boxes are VERY neglected. Not a flat box on the course always teeing off with the ball either above or below your feet. Confusing to navigate around the course as well, not many signs telling you where the next hole is. Decent course for a decent price
Hidden Gem
Didn't know about this course until 2 weeks ago when I saw a $26 round with cart on Golf Now.
Course is the old Playboy Club course set in the hills of Northern NJ.
It is a 27 hole course alternating between the challenging Quary course cut into an old quary with many elevation changes throughout in a picturesque setting. The Rail 9 is set over an old railway track and the Lakes 9 which is probably the most challenging of the 3. All are set in a beautiful valley using the hillside and valley floor to wonderful advantage with many elevation changes and doglegs. This is a shot makers course which rewards ball placement rather than simply just bombing away. It is superbly maintained and has challenging fast greens requiring a deft touch.
This is not a walking course unless you are in fantastic shape and are prepared to be really tired at the end of your round.
Overall this is possibly one of the best values in NJ for golf. I hope this review doesn't lead to hordes coming in to play because its really nice to have discovered one of the true "hidden gems" of NJ golf! Hard to be selfish with my fellow golfers though. Come play this course.
Great Course
Conditions are great, course is not overly challenging but far from a walk in the park!
Free warm up basket, great pace of play, greens hold your approach shots well but are very fast while putting, fairways are well maintained!
My only complaint with this course is there is no drinking water anywhere on it! The cart girl is around often but there’s times when a few water jugs would be handy!
Well maintained, very scenic, 27 holes it will be a new favorite!
First time playing
We played lake and quary. Course layout was great. Most of the greens were in great condition.
Well worth it!!
Upon arrival we had our doubts do to the sad state that the old Playboy club has become, but don’t let the shabby old hotel sway you!
We were early for our tee time, the staff was very friendly and courteous. The round included a small bucket of balls to warm up with.
Still with our doubts we waited our turn to approach the first tee. Once you get to the first tee box and look down the mountain on the first hole, you realize you’ve made the right choice! The views from any hole on this course are beautiful, and there’s 27 beautiful holes to experience!! Course conditions were top shelf! Fairways short and soft, the rough was even well maintained! Greens were FAST, and challenging! The bunkers did need better sand but they were not atrocious.
All in all my whole 4 some was very impressed with the entire course with only one real complaint! There is ZERO drinking water on the course, and the cart girl is scarce!!! Bring your own water or beverages for sure! Other than that I can’t fund a bad thing about the place we will surely return!!
We enjoy this place.
Course is in good shape, rates are reasonable, and pace of play was excellent. (Four seniors played 18 in 4 hours). Also like that range balls are included in the greens fee.
Good times
Had a great day on the Links! Course in great shape
Good Value
We played on a day they where expecting rain and didn’t get any. The course was not crowded so the pace of play was great. We played Rail/Quarry today. Both sides are a good test of golf. Conditions are really improving. Definitely worth the trip!
Fantastic views
I love playing in this golf course. Beautiful layouts and friendly staff.
I recommend Great Gorge
GREAT course
Great Gorge is in wonderful condition. From tee box to green you couldn't ask for anything more. My partner & I enjoyed everything about playing here. Highly recommend playing this track!
Fun.
Hadn’t played here in 25 years but had a morning off and booked a tee time on GolfNow. Reviews of good conditions were accurate. Very good fairways and greens. Terrific layout with dramatic views and changes in elevation on many holes. Well worth the $47 I paid.
Course condition is getting better
The fairways and the greens are getting better to the original forms after a few years of course closed. The pace is good which we finish in 3 1/2 hours.
Great Course
Beautiful course - Staff was so friendly and accommodating. Greens were fast and true - tee boxes and fairways in great conditions. Right next to the old Playboy Club. Remember the time when my folks used to bring me there back in the 70's. The course is in a lot better condition than the Playboy building.
Hello, Chris. Thank you for taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass along your feedback to the staff so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting us!
