Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

Great Course/Great Price
Played the Rail/Quarry. First time playing since the club reopened. Course was in excellent shape, greens and fairways are well kept. Challenging holes, quick greens. Wish I could say the same for the bunkers - mostly stones, they need work. . Played Holiday morning, expected slow play but had a leisurely 4:15 round without holding anyone up or being pushed. At $51 the price can’t be beat for the course especially with the prices of the Crystal Springs courses. Worth the 50 minute drive.
Great layout. Great value. Great staff
Fantastic place for a day of golf. We'll worth the trip from NYC. 3 great nines with gorgeous views and wonderful staff. The greens were top level. Very true and fast. Only critiques were the tee boxes and fairways were pretty beat up. Definitely a challenging course. I'd recommend this place to anyone.
Holy beautiful!
Not sure the 3* folks are reviewing the right course. The fairways, tee boxes, greens were all fantastic! A lot of the traps do need some work though, and the prices did go up a bit from last year. Still not as high as South Jersey!!! Views from this course are pretty amazing also. Cant wait to play again. Good job folks, now go fix the traps!
Close to home
Live down the valley from Great Gorge, Have played there since the seventies. Currently the course is in the best shape I remember. Very accommodating staff. Have put a lot of work into course since reopen in 2017. Agreed the cart paths are horrendous but well worth the money for senior Monday through Friday.
Great value
I played quarry / rail this is truly a unique layout course was in exellent condition greens were particularly good condition but pin setups were tough. They are offering great value rounds my second time there this year and will be back
Good Conditions on Tee Boxes, Fairways & Greens
Good quality conditions on the tee boxes, fairways and greens. Rough was low and a non factor. The cart paths are horrible. Much of the course have the pavement paths and they are in terrible condition. Management needs to either repave these paths or make them all stone. Pace of play was great. Fix the cart paths and this place will be back to pristine condition all around.
Very Good Value
We played the Quarry Course and the Lakeside Course on a very hot day (there are 3 nine-hole courses). One objection is that there are no drinking water facilities on the course itself - bring your own water. The Quarry Course fairways were browned out due to the very hot and dry weather, but the greens were in good condition. The Lakeside 9 was in better shape. The course layout on both was very good. Suitable for golfers at all levels of skill. The staff was very friendly. Great Gorge is, unfortunately, well
over an hour away from our home, but the plus side to that is that the course was not at all crowded and the pace of play was therefore very good.
Decent course, but not worth the money. Still needs work
I played here a few times a couple of years ago and I remember the course being in much better shape. Today, you could tell it was not very well maintained. Some greens were very fast, some were very slow. Yellow, dried out grass all over, some soft fairways, and many instances of “ground under repair” (clearly some construction still going on). In fact, 2 holes had the sprinklers on WHILE we were playing and we had to play around them! And it was around 9am, not that early...
Overall, a rather disappointing experience. Courses in that area are usually worth the drive all the way out there, and while Great Gorge had some scenic views, it wasn’t worth it. I’d say save your money (and gas, if you’re not local) and play a local, county course. Most likely it’ll be in the same (if not better) condition than Great Gorge.. Hope the construction ends soon and this place turns around. It has potential.
Take time to read the green.
Fast greens, watch out for breaks. Grounds were firm, extra round. Lots of fun, play strategically.
Fairways & Rough need better maintenance
Looks like they've been stingy on the maintenance. The fairways & rough are not in the best shape. Bunker sand is packed down & hard. At least the greens and the areas around the green are nice.
Nice course
Good course. Superb staff, greens superb but very hilly. 3 putts common. No water - meaning drinking water - on course!
You’ll find a better course for the money
Great course and layout. Very friendly and welcoming staff fantastic value for money.... they even include free range balls with your round
Coming back
I was excited to see that Great George was open again. Played it for years before. After seeing website I was set for a great new course. The course is the same. Cart paths the same, awful. Was really expecting more but for a discounted rate I'm ok. Just wished they hadn't billed it as a great new course.
Great golf
There are 3 great courses here that are all challenging in their own way. I think the Lake course is the most challenging, but the Rail and Quarry have their own unique challenges. Great design, great value and easy to get a tee time. Courses are always in great shape, with some tricky greens. And you can't beat the views. All topped off with a renovated clubhouse and a great staff. If there is one negative, its the cart paths.
They could use some work. Dont let that stop you from playing these courses.
great old course
really shows off the mountains of north jersey. course is in very good shape, still needs a cart path or two. please dont confuse bad pin cut with bad greens these are great greens, once apon a time they were kept a foot or two faster and really showed off a few false fronts.. keep it goin in the rite direction, missed this course THANK YOU!!!
What Amazing Shape
Course is in amazing shape. Well groomed fairwys and true and fast greens. First round I played since the course reopened and was not disappointed. Heard original grounds keeper is back and it sure shows.
Excellent price point and dealing with funky parking in the old and quite dilapidated Playboy Club lot.
Wonderful round of golf!
My hubby and I played yesterday, and we were so impressed with Great Gorge! We played Rail and Quarry....loved them both....looking forward to playing Lake the next time. Great value....and after our round, we went out on the patio and had a yummy drink and supper to finish the day! Tees, Fairways, greens....all in great shape. Very friendly staff all the way around. If it's your first time, go through the parking lot and continue to the bag drop at the pro shop. Then you can park your car. We WILL be back and bring our friends!
