We wrapped up our trip at Turning Stone with Kaluhyat. The course is very nice and scenic, but unfortunately our round was cut short due to a monsoon of rain that came pouring in. We were able to play four holes and then ultimately had to call it quits. You cannot go wrong with any of the courses at Turning Stone and Kaluhyat is no exception.
Another absolute treat at Turning Stone. I hadn't played Shenendoah since the redesign. The course was in fantastic condition. The greens were rolling at 9.5 so if you were on the wrong side of the hole, you had a chance to save yourself. The layout was really nice on both nines. The 18th hole is stunning especially with a nice setting sun.
Just as good as the last time. The flowers and the views are second to none. Not a blade of grass out of place. This course, and Turning Stone as a whole, are a bucket list destination. Plenty of water, especially on the back nine. The greens were rolling at 10.5 so make sure you leave yourself on the proper side of the hole.
Trip Highlight
The entrance to Atunoyte has one of the most spectacular gates you will see. The long and winding road gives you a preview of what the golf course will offer. Doug met us at the bag drop and proved to be an invaluable asset with guidance on where to go to change, check in, and get to the practice facility. Although we failed that since we didn't listen well.
As the host of a Tour event they have all the facilities although the locker room only has two showers. While not the best Fazio course I have played this one is well thought out and offers plenty of challenge depending on the tees you select.
The conditioning was excellent. We were virtually alone on. the course. New carts have GPS systems. Great mix of par threes, plenty of water and bunkers to avoid. After the round we showered and changed and enjoyed a tasty lunch before heading home. A great end to our trip.
Another Gem at Turning Stone
Another great track at Turning Stone. The course was in fantastic shape. The pace of play was very smooth and I couldn’t have enjoyed my time playing. The staff was very friendly from the pro shop all the way through the outside staff.
This is a different course than Atunyote but is plenty good and not one you want to miss out on.
Highly recommend you check out this property if you are in the area.
What an absolute treat
I don’t even know where to begin. This course was absolutely fantastic. From the dew swept tee boxes to the rolling fairways, Atunyote was in fantastic shape. The breakfast at the clubhouse was second to none. Highly recommend the home fires!
The greens were flawless. The bunkers were so nice to hit out of. I got plenty of practice as I frequented them often.
This course is certainly a tale of two nines as the back nine seemingly has water on every hole.
The practice facility has everything you could ever want to fine tune your game.
I HIGHLY recommend checking out this course if you are ever in the area.
Top notch golf Experience
Have played there for years and I always return. They not only provide an exceptional golf experience, but also their star studded top-notch staff and customer service is unmatched. They are committed to provide the best possible customer experience both on and off the course. This year once again they have two courses in the “Top 100” you can play. I moved to the Golf capital of the world, Myrtle Beach a few years ago. I have more choices for golf and club fitting than almost anywhere in the world, yet I return to Verona NY annually for club fittings and to play Atunyote, Kaluhyat, and Shenendoah tracks.
This year during club fittings I worked with Ryan McGinnis a true professional golf fitter. I was determined to buy the new driver a Taylor-Made M-5 or Callaway Epic Flash. Ryan worked for over an hour and a half , and with his assistance I ended up with new shafts for my two year old driver. I got the distance I needed and was treated not as a “sales goal” but a golfer who wanted game improvement. Golf is a game of integrity and Turning Stone staff delivered again.
I could rave about their courses but I can not match the spot on accolades delivered by the major golf publications. I would like to share a story about their commitment to the experience of great golf. A few years back a friend and I played at the end of the season and just walked on. It was a cold Fall day with rain in the air. Myself and my friend were the only ones crazy enough to be out that day. Signed in to play and was told to wait 30 minutes before I go out. I had no idea why the wait, no one was there. What the staff at Turning Stone had done was send out a full greens maintenance team in front of us, to blow all the leaves off the tee boxes, fairways and greens. (Fall in NY has millions of leaves blowing). They consciously stayed just about a hole and a half in front of us, clearing the way for a great day of golf, despite the weather.
Turning Stone in nothing short of perfection.
Pristine Conditions
Wanted to play this course two years ago but it was closed for a renovation and the rerouting of seven holes. I am glad that I came back to play it after the changes as I completely enjoyed everything about this course. Great hole variety, tremendous conditions, generous fairways and enough water hazards and bunkering to challenge you without overwhelming you. It is a great compliment to Turning Stone's other two courses that are also outstanding.
A must play
I absolutely loved this golf course. It was visually stunning as the flowers throughout the property are incredible. The nature fescues combined with the perfectly manicured fairways and greens made for a fun day of golf and a memorable experience.
quality
first timer, worthwhile stop. big ballpark feel that is very playable. had to drive up to peek at a couple of fairways and bunkers. love the layout and use of terrain. links style, as well as a parkland feel on many holes. just verti-cut the greens but they were fine. 9.5 speed, very easy to navigate the breaks and the course in general.. perfect warm up for the other courses on site. was paired up with a couple guys who wok at the casino, and we really had a lot of fun together. nice staff, area, course. you can’t go wrong, just make sure you play the appropriate yardage.
Shenendoah
Outstanding condition great staff. Wide fairways with generous landing areas. Fun second shots into superb greens. Great day
Nice layout and good challenge
Fairways are wide, giving you a good chance to put the ball in play. Missing the fairway will cost you, the rough is thick, and there is a lot of natural grasses that you will lose your ball in. Good mix of moderately easy holes and challenging holes. Several holes look intimidating from the tee, use the yardage book they provide, it helps a lot. Greens are fairly small, but they really very well. Lot os slope on the green and they were pretty fast when we played, even though it had rained a lot recently. Course was in great condition and visually interesting, definitely recommend.
Great beautiful course
Was still a little wet but that’s central New York for you in early may. Must play
Unreal
I've played courses up and down the east coast..... This, for the $, is by far the nicest track I've been to.... Staff is unbelievably awesome! 7 people there for the day..... What a course!
Best public golf course and experience in upstate NY
Whenever I really want to treat myself, my golf partner and I will drive 90 minutes and spend a day here at Atunyote.
Closest thing to being a member at an exclusive country club, it is well worth the money.
For starters, the minute those huge gates open to let you enter, you know this is a special place.
The grounds are spectacular....no real estate development, no traffic noise and flowers everywhere.
Clubhouse is incredible....built for when the PGA tournament was held here.
Practice facility is beyond exceptional. And they do not mind you spending lots of time even after the round.
Golf course is a 10. It's a Tom Fazio design. Conditions can't be better as they spend lots to maintain it and limit the number of rounds played daily.
Love the layout....not super demanding off the tees but challenging approaches needed. Greens smooth as can be imagined.
Staff are friendly, professional and accommodating.
The sister courses of Shenandoah and Kaluyut are very good but not in the same league/price.
I'm not a casino guy, but I love Turning Stone for golf.
Probably the closest thing to golfing in heaven
What else can I say? Everything from the front gate, to the 18th hole is picturesque and beautiful. Course conditions were immaculate and staff was as friendly as can be. This 7700 yard track can be set up to play as tough as anything out there but the fairways are moderately wide for all golfers to enjoy. The beautiful club house, practice facility, and course passes many private country clubs in every way. Due to the hefty price tag, this track gets very little play. With the beautiful scenery on every hole, it almost feels surreal because you feel like you have the place to yourself. Even though we were practically the only ones on the course, our round took over 5 1/2 hours due to taking pictures and taking in the beauty of the course. With the top notch facility available to anyone playing, the staff makes you feel like you are a member at a country club. Definitely a bucket list course for any golfer.
Tough track, not for the week hearted
One of the toughest tracks as they come. With a slope rating of 150, most weekend warriors should not be playing from the tips and championship tees. Everything that challenges a player is in this course. Long holes, blind shots, moderately narrow fairways with fescue and native grass will punish you if fairways are missed. There are plenty of force carries over water hazards, marsh, and fescue on most holes. In my opinion the toughest course in the Turning Stone facility because it's the least forgiving off tee shots. Even though it's a tough test, good shots do get rewarded. Since the greens were recently aerated, conditions weren't perfect this day. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The facility has that homey feeling as oppose to the hustle and bustle on a extremely busy muni. Anyway, playing all the courses at Turning Stone is worth the drive. Definitely one of the best tracks that's available to the public.
Long fun track that rewards good shots
Beautiful designed track with wide fairways. You can have fun letting go with the big stick. Missing these fairways could punish you due to their high rough, fescue and native grass. There is plenty of course carries over sand bunkers, marsh and water hazards so good ball striking is still required. If playing for the first time, be aware of subtle breaks on putts. Course conditions are immaculate and staff is super friendly. Price is expensive but you get what you pay for. One of the best tracks that has tee times open to the public.
FYI, course had major reconstruction. GPS is useless on most holes so use a laser.
