Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone

About
Shenendoah, Turning Stone’s original eighteen, has been rejuvenated after a 2016 rerouting and renovation project that saw the creation of seven new holes. The course is named after one of the great chiefs in the history of the Oneida tribe. Designer Rick Smith came back to do the recent work on this playing field that alternates between wide-open spaces, wetlands areas, and parkland areas sheltered by woodlands. Shenendoah, which hosted the 2006 PGA Professional Championship, is Turning Stone’s most heavily played eighteen. Like the resort’s other courses, it is free of course-side housing and certified to Audubon International standards.

Took advantage of a special
My son and I took advantage of a fall special for $70 for tee times after 2pm. It was October, so it gets dark at 6:20pm, but we were able to get all 18 in thanks to the group in front of us who kept moving despite appearing to be mediocre to poor golfers.
I really liked the course layout. The fairways were pristine considering it was mid-October and the greens were in great condition .... and fast, which I like. I had great difficulty reading the greens and did not putt very well. Sometimes the ball would break about six inches from the hole despite there being no indication from studying and lining up the putt. There are no flat, straight putts on any green; they are all undulating. Suffice it to say, putting - at least for me and my son - was challenging.
The only negative comment I have is that the front nine is close to the NYS Thruway, so there is a lot of annoying road noise. The bottom line is, I think the course is worth checking out, but I probably wouldn't be willing to pay the regular price.
Love this place, the best of the 3 courses here
Of the three high end courses here this one is my favorite. Its the most fun! So well kept, great conditions.
Great course
Love this course and the Turning Stone treatment. Turning Stone Golf is DEFINITELY the crown jewel of central NY golfing. You cannot be in this area and not try one of these courses it’s an incredible experience.
Great course. Course was in excellent shape. A little pricey (especially for this area), but worth the money. Pace is a little slow for me, but they are making money keeping the course full. Great way to keep the course viable. Defineately would play again, if back in the area.
A nice course for the #3 at TS
The original track(although rerouted) is a very, very good golf course. Always in great condition, generous fairways but treacherous greens.
Many well framed holes with well positioned bunkers.
Only gripe is that it is so close to a highway, some holes on front side are loud.
Fun Course outside Syracuse
The Turning Stone Casino Resort has three courses, with a Shenandoah being the friendliest. The fairway landing zones tend to be generous but most greens are oriented so approach shots are coming into a narrow green. There is a narrow, first cut collar then thicker, lush rough around the green. Greens were receptive and not particularly fast. Very fun track.
Fantastic shape and layout
Went out as a twosome. Staff were great from start to finish. Best carts in the business Felt like sitting in a Cadillac 2 iced down water bottles were provided. Mid 90 temp. Made quick work of them. Cart ladies were frequently found for more
Fairways were the best around soft and manicured
Greens were fast but very true and receptive.
The land and views were beautiful. Stopped to take a few pictures.
Clubhouse was fully stocked with the latest items and had a shirt sale.
3.5 hour round. Will play again
Most fun out of the three high end courses on property
Shenendoah is just a fun challenge. Not as hard as Kaluyhat, a little more open and you can use the driver more. Excellent condtitions as always. Courteous staff, seemed like they were doing all the covid precautions seriously. Certianly worth playing a few times a year as a treat.
Turning Stone Original
This course use to be in the top 100 you can play from Golf Digest, it has since dropped out. This year I have played a few of the 2019 top 100 (besides TS), and the Shenandoah course lapped them, smoked them, left them in the dust !!!!. Remarkably well kept and the new seven holes of the redesign melted right in to the Rick Smith design. True championship greens running at 10.5 and fairways you could eat off.
This course is more playable then Kaluhyat and Atunyote but by no means a push over. Sloped at 145 from the tips and 135 from the whites, it will keep you busy.
Finally you always get the Turning Stone experience. Fine food, great staff, and beyond first class golf. You can not go wrong at Shenandoah, in fact it can't be much more right.
Turning Stone
This course was the friendliest of all the courses st Turning Stone. I would recommend playing this course first while visiting Turning Stone.
Beautiful course
Challenging but still playable and fun. The course, the greens were all beautifully maintained. For the most part, you can see what's in front of you and choosing the right tee helps your score.
Amazing stay and play resort
Turning stone as a whole is a great resort but these golf courses are amazing. Shenendoah wasn’t the easiest course I’ve played but not the hardest either. Premium on hitting the fairway cause if you don’t your in knee high fescue grass. No complaints about the greens other than I couldn’t make a putt. Personally shot 75 from the white tees as a 7 handicap. Would definitely do a return trip to Turning Stone.
