Grandover never disappoints
Played the West course as a Two some. 3 Hr round.
Course, as always is in good shape, the greens were smooth after being punched about 40 days ago, The green speed seemed a little slow from playing in the past, balls checked up nicely, maybe to nicely sometimes.
Dennis L Eldridge
Greens had been punched and top dressed, Speed was moderate and smooth if not near the edges of green.
Tee boxes and fairways were longer than normal requiring longer tees for driver and less roll out on drives.
Rough was penal (3" +) and no first cut. Width of fairways were fair.
Tee boxes, fairways and green collars all show signs of alien grasses.
I've played this course several times over the years and this was the worst shape I've seen it. It still nicer than most public courses, but not worth the normal rack rate.
The Cardinal and Bryan Park Champions are in better shape and much cheaper to play.
Fix. Your. Ball. Marks
Played there today. Beautiful lay out. Very friendly people.
This isn’t a complaint against the course so much.. but they give you a repair tool to fix your ball marks on the green.. EVERY SINGLE GREEN had 10-15 fresh ball marks... you can’t putt anywhere with out going through old un repaired marks. I probably repaired over 30 today. Fairways were covered with divots that weren’t replaced. The regulars don’t seem to care about the course. And there’s no accountability by the 3-4 marshals they had driving around.
Lack of service
Today it was 90 degrees, no water on the West course, except for the workers watering the greens while people are playing. The snack bar between 9&10 was closed and no beverage cart person coming around at all. When we called the staff about the snack bar not being open, nothing was done. Being a member of the Griffin club does not mean anything. The staff at the 19th hole is slow and cannot get people in and out. The price to play this course is high for the shape it’s in. I will not be renewing my membership, nor will I come back.
Awlful rpund
On staff members were very accommodating. However the conditions were awful. Tee boxes look like a mutiny, conditions around the greens or awful. there were weeds growing in the middle of the Fairway.
I will avoid it until they got the conditions up to what is there for the price they charge. What made it even worse is there was a mini outing out in front of all group. We were at a pace to play 5 1/2 round. Turned what should have been a beautiful day with my son, turned out to be a miserable afternoon.
Cart Path Only on day I played
It rained very heavy the day before I played. I wasn't surprised the course was cart path only and realistically was the correct choice. However, this course is not cart path only friendly. Nearly every hole has large steep hills leading down into the fairway. Otherwise the greens course was in amazing shape. The tee boxes were even and well maintained, fairways were a bit soft but nicely mowed. The rough gave some challenge. The greens were soft (Left divot on every hole), but rolled smooth and true.
Nice Track - Excellent Staff - Fair Value
We were the first group out on the course on a Friday morning so had great pace of play.
The course was in excellent condition. The greens were firm and fast. They rolled very nice.
No complaints. Probably a little more than I would pay for an everyday round, but worth it for a vacation.
Why haven’t I played here before?
Had an early morning tee time as a single , third off behind two twosomes. Pace of play was great. Done in Less than 3 hours. Course in great shape. Greens holding and putting true. Couldn’t ask for anything better.
Disappointing
Bunkers and greens were in good shape. Fairways and tee boxes were not and looked like a municipal course. Not worth the $65 green fee. Shocking how much the course has detierotated since I last played it a couple years back.
Great course...but not worth the price
Great layout. Definetely play the East course if you're wondering between East or West. Beautiful scenery. Challenging mounds and green undulations prevent you from scoring well. Greens are immaculate shape. Cart path and cart ride are top notch. Staff is best I've encountered in years.
Fairways...atrocious. They're trying...sod everywhere...but absolutely horrible "fairways". Hitting from hard pan dirt nearly every shot.
Worth playing just for scenery...absolutely not worth the "hot deal" of $60. This is a $40 course at current conditions. Don't pay this high price until the get the fairways back to what it was years ago.
Nice layout.
Good mix of challenging and easier holes. Conditions were good, but in 2 more weeks fairways will have fully grown in. If playing the West, make sure to practice putting by the first tee since that is bent grass like the course. The practice green by the range is Bermuda. Only complaint is the lack of water coolers on the course.
Great course, even better when the fairways are on form
Very nice course, well organized and easy to navigate for a first timer. Fairways were still coming in, and a little rough approaching a few greens, but overall I would recommend this course.
Wonderful
The conditions were spring-like. The fairways are a bit patchy but will b3 great once they grow in. The greens were smooth and fairly fast. It is a spectacular layout with a huge variety of looks. We loved it.
