I know it’s winter, but course needs some tic. Felt subpar for Grandover
Challenging but Fun and Fair
First time playing Grandover West. A great layout with lots of elevation changes! Bent grass greens were on the slow side but rolled true (practice green at clubhouse is Bermuda). IMO, need to play it once to get the feel for the course but would recommend to anyone. Some killer par 4's and solid par 3's (I played from the blue tees, 6300 yds but playing closer to 6450 yds due to wet conditions/cart path only). Great time on a beautiful Xmas Day!
5–hour Round; SLOW greens
Challenging layout even from the senior tees where we played. I scored 15 strokes above my USGA average, mainly due to wet traps and slow, really slow greens. I blame myself. This is a Bermuda course set up for tourist winter play. Skeleton staff, CART PATH ONLY. (due to dormant fairways), and soppy traps in fairways & greens). Might be a nice round when it’s summertime. Save your money. Really.
Great Course
A great place to play. Course was in great condition. Greens rolled very true. Staff very friendly.
waste of time and money
First it was poorly organized. There was a small outing, with shot gun all over the course. The last group, of which we had to play behind was on a 5 1/2 pace. They were playing a scramble. It was awful. Waiting on every hole. There was almost 3 hole open and starters did nothing. While waiting in the fairway you got to view the deporable condition. Fairways and green surrounds burnt out. Bare lyes everywhere. They offered me free drinks, I gave them back their passes and rather have my money back. It was a day of golf with my 20 year old son. A day I can never get back. What a waste
Grandover resort is a gem
Grandover continues to shine. Great staff and the two courses are great. Played the West course today and was in great shape. Don’t miss this gem
Saturday morning
Off as a foursome on a Saturday morning at 9. Surprised no starter at the west course. Pace a little slow at first as there was a 2 some husband and wife maybe. She was just learning as alot if swings and misses but no rangers on course to monitor. Awesome for her trying to golf but Saturday morning is tough as the course will get backed up quick. They did allow us thru after a couple holes so after that pace was good. Nice course but for the price was surprised at the amount of un fixed divots on the greens. No rangers on course to encourage repairing ball Mark's. Overall a fun layout
Grandover never disappoints
Played the West course as a Two some. 3 Hr round.
Course, as always is in good shape, the greens were smooth after being punched about 40 days ago, The green speed seemed a little slow from playing in the past, balls checked up nicely, maybe to nicely sometimes.
Dennis L Eldridge
Greens had been punched and top dressed, Speed was moderate and smooth if not near the edges of green.
Tee boxes and fairways were longer than normal requiring longer tees for driver and less roll out on drives.
Rough was penal (3" +) and no first cut. Width of fairways were fair.
Tee boxes, fairways and green collars all show signs of alien grasses.
I've played this course several times over the years and this was the worst shape I've seen it. It still nicer than most public courses, but not worth the normal rack rate.
The Cardinal and Bryan Park Champions are in better shape and much cheaper to play.
Fix. Your. Ball. Marks
Played there today. Beautiful lay out. Very friendly people.
This isn’t a complaint against the course so much.. but they give you a repair tool to fix your ball marks on the green.. EVERY SINGLE GREEN had 10-15 fresh ball marks... you can’t putt anywhere with out going through old un repaired marks. I probably repaired over 30 today. Fairways were covered with divots that weren’t replaced. The regulars don’t seem to care about the course. And there’s no accountability by the 3-4 marshals they had driving around.
Lack of service
Today it was 90 degrees, no water on the West course, except for the workers watering the greens while people are playing. The snack bar between 9&10 was closed and no beverage cart person coming around at all. When we called the staff about the snack bar not being open, nothing was done. Being a member of the Griffin club does not mean anything. The staff at the 19th hole is slow and cannot get people in and out. The price to play this course is high for the shape it’s in. I will not be renewing my membership, nor will I come back.
Awlful rpund
On staff members were very accommodating. However the conditions were awful. Tee boxes look like a mutiny, conditions around the greens or awful. there were weeds growing in the middle of the Fairway.
I will avoid it until they got the conditions up to what is there for the price they charge. What made it even worse is there was a mini outing out in front of all group. We were at a pace to play 5 1/2 round. Turned what should have been a beautiful day with my son, turned out to be a miserable afternoon.
Cart Path Only on day I played
It rained very heavy the day before I played. I wasn't surprised the course was cart path only and realistically was the correct choice. However, this course is not cart path only friendly. Nearly every hole has large steep hills leading down into the fairway. Otherwise the greens course was in amazing shape. The tee boxes were even and well maintained, fairways were a bit soft but nicely mowed. The rough gave some challenge. The greens were soft (Left divot on every hole), but rolled smooth and true.
Nice Track - Excellent Staff - Fair Value
We were the first group out on the course on a Friday morning so had great pace of play.
The course was in excellent condition. The greens were firm and fast. They rolled very nice.
No complaints. Probably a little more than I would pay for an everyday round, but worth it for a vacation.
