East at Grandover Resort

After spending a couple days of getting my butt have to me by Mike Strantz, I decided to try out something a little quieter and what I found was the perfect combination of southern charm with a kick of Carolina heart. Every hole had my jaw on the floor, I can’t wait to come back and try the other course they have to offer.

I recently played The Grandover Resort East course and was unfortunately disappointed with the overall condition of the course. Given that a typical weekend round can cost over $100, I expect the course to be maintained to a standard that reflects that price point and the expectations associated with a resort golf experience.

What was particularly disappointing is that I played the course less than six weeks ago, and the conditions were noticeably better at that time. Since then, the course appears to have declined significantly in terms of maintenance and presentation.

Despite the area receiving ample rain over the past several weeks, the course looked surprisingly dry and almost baked out in several areas. The greens were especially disappointing, appearing shaggy and generally unkept rather than having the manicured appearance I would expect from a resort course. The tee boxes were also in poor shape, with numerous dead spots and areas that appeared heavily worn.

The bunkers were another area of concern. Many were extremely hard and compact, and they did not appear to have received the level of maintenance necessary to provide a consistent playing surface. Overall, the course gave the impression that routine maintenance and manicuring had been scaled back considerably over the past month or two.

I understand that golf course conditions can fluctuate throughout the season, and weather can certainly play a role. However, the contrast between my round less than six weeks ago and my most recent experience was significant. For a course commanding weekend rates of more than $100, I believe golfers should reasonably expect better overall conditions and presentation.

The layout itself is enjoyable, and I would like to see the course return to the condition I experienced on my previous visit. Unfortunately, based on this most recent round, the course did not feel like it was being maintained to the standard I would expect from a resort facility at this price point.

Totally enjoyed my round. Great game but terrible score card. First time playing, learning how to play it in the right way.

This is a tough course and it’s maintained perfectly. I’m looking forward to playing it again.

Absolutely ridiculous - SIX hour round, no rangers (although the in cart screen kept warning us that we were behind and threatening a Ranger would come scold us!! I would have loved to see a ranger! There is zero sand in the bunkers - it’s all hard packed dirt/mud. Three women at the turn in the grill couldn’t have been more inept or slower - but it didn’t really matter as there were 3+ groups waiting on 10. Such a joke. What a waste of money, but more so, an entire Saturday!!! Never again.

This is really a nice setup for a luxury resort. I only gave 4 stars for course conditions due to some rough bunkers, but they do really well with fairways and greens. The greens are pretty tough to read for average hackers and the speeds were not consistent due to recent aeration, but they look great. I have to admit I had several 3 putts and one 4 putt not being used to playing greens that have so many undulations. My buddies and I will be back to take it on again.

Decent course to play but I would think that a place of this caliber would at least have good quality sand in the bunkers but there were only a few that had that most were like mortar mix sand and not playable.One other note is if you are an older person and not a long hitter I would suggest that you play the West course because the East has very long holes and most you can't reach the green in two shots.Also I paid $69 for my round through Golf Now but they usually get $100 and sometimes more for a round and to me it's just not worth it.

Used to be a five star! Management has forgotten the bunkers!. Either they don't care or they are now sponsored by quikrete. The course is very well maintained everywhere else. I love the layout and it is very challenging from any set of tees. The fairways are perfect the greens are quick downhill and slower uphill only due to the grain of the Bermuda.. Normally my group has the understanding that if in a bunker that has not been maintained we rake and place, this is not even possible at the current moment. Rock hard. We will return hopefully it will improve.

Check in process was smooth, practice greens and range were good. Course layout is good and course conditions were the best compared to other courses in the area at this time of the year. Pace of play needs some improvement. While GPS said we are ahead of pace of play we have been waiting for every shot and was frustating.

Not for novice golfers. Interstate noise was annoying

After a cold January and a wet February in Greensboro, I suppose I should not have been so surprised when I arrived at the course, as Grandover East is often busy. The upside was "we owned the course" and played with no one in front of us or behind us, so we made the best of the damp turf and occasionally hitting into bunkers (that had no sand/were under repair). We will definitely be back when things warm up. While I appreciate the ability reserve a tee time through GolfNow app, I'td be nice if there was an alert to let you know about course conditions, as each of drove an hour to get there.

The course was nice very. First time playing it. The staff was unbelievable nice. The banks were a little clay and muddy but it did rain the day before. Overall an awesome course and would recommend for experienced golfers

Anyone who gets suckered into playing at Grandover should consider other options in the area. The pro shop is staffed by high school kids who are untrained and unprofessional. My group began play and we were interrupted rudely by Grandover personnel. They drove into our group yelling because they claimed we didn’t pay enough?? Who does that in the middle of a round?? They began disabling our carts too. Where were we supposed to go? Drive the golf carts home?? Not providing a receipt was their first mistake. Unprofessional. Rude. Disappointing. I reached out to Grandover management and was ignored. The pro shop kids lied to protect their jobs.

I was afraid this would happen when Wyndham took over Grandover Resort! $108+ for a round of afternoon golf on a slow uncrowded weekday! We like the Courses here but we’re done with Grandover.
