True mountain course
Great fun for a guy from the low country of Charleston, SC. Will be back to play again if for nothing more than the spectacular vistas!
Sad Condition of what could be a beautiful course
It is obvious that at one time this was a beautiful course. Understand there is a new owner and new greenskeeper. Had looked at website, planned timing for lunch ( not open! ) ; planned to hit the range to warm up ( told that they had no balls! ); 1 employee there - not especially friendly when we walked in. He later became helpful to get us cups of water from the closed restaurant. Vistas are gorgeous and I really hope this course gets the attention it needs -- what potential!!! Recommend only due to vistas and hope for the future of this course & facilities.
Not worth the rate
A few years ago this place had really good average rates and course was seemingly on the mend. Now the rates are too high for present course conditions. Fairways are brown, greens are spotty, with big dirt spots in them, fringes are rough length. Course has potential. Nice layout, some great playing elevation holes but just can't find a decent greens keeper or they just don't care. I don't know. A real shame.
Great mountain golf experience
Hard to focus on the game of golf in this atmosphere. Truly enjoyable course. Although not especially difficult, it is challenging and unique. The elevation changes, the layout, the cart path switch-backs and beautiful ascents through tunnels of hardwood foliage are worth the little extra cost, as it was a bit pricey. All in all though, if I'm back in the area, I look forward to playing it again.
Interesting and nice views
The course was interesting and challenging. The greens had been recently punched and were not yet recovered. They had just experienced some serious rain so it was a tad soggy in some areas.
Pretty Challenging Course w/ nice views
First off I was referred by my step-dad to play this course since I was going to be in the area, and let me say I am so glad I took his advice. This course is really neat, since it is made on the sides of the mountains. That being said this course is not one you want to walk for 2 reasons, 1) being on the sides of the mountains and 2) because there is lots of distance between most of the holes. Course is pretty unique with the way the holes are setup do to being on the sides of the mountains, this is what makes the course pretty challenging. NOTE: make sure you bring plenty of balls just to be on the safe side.
So you want to play a mountain course!
This is a course that will challenge any golfer. It will probably overwhelm a higher handicap player. Ladies will have difficulty climbing the hills but my wife likes the challenge. So, with that caution, it is an place that provides some exceptional views, drop shots with excitement and a demand for accuracy.
The conditions were okay but not great. The rough is ragged and difficult to play from. The greats were decent but have a fair amount of foreign plants (course grasses) growing. The fairways were good.
The course demands accurate shots. It starts off docile but on the fourth hole you will start to see the demands it offers. The fifth hole will make you wonder how you got to the International Space Station and ask "how do I get down?" Play it on a day when you are rested and feel your game is in good shape.
Love This Place!!!
Smoky Mtn just keeps getting better each time I play. The price is always the best in the North Carolina mountains, as is their ultra-friendly staff. The Bermuda fairways are like playing on carpet, and the bentgrass greens are in great shape, particularly for mid-August. If you come up to Harrah's Cherokee Casino, play this course, as it is only minutes away.
Awesome Mountain course!
initially i thought it was a bit rough for the price, but play a few holes and you quickly forget a very few patches of red clay, and you focus on the beautiful and challenging lay-out. More altitude changes than any i have previously played, lots of blind shots, great pace of play-Great time!
Extreem Mt. Golf
This is a very difficult track, due to the extreme elevation changes, and tight fairways. This is also a riding Track, NO WALKING! So very interesting holes for sure. One more thing, there is nothing around this Golf course, so bring it with you, or buy it there.
Just too expensive
The course was okay, but, it was just a bit too expensive. I have played at much nicer courses for less. The golfnow website usually provides a good price for the experience, however, this was not the case. I played 18 holes for $50. and felt like it should have cost $35. The course had some well maintained areas and a lot of not so well maintained areas too. Somewhat disappointing..... Oh... And the cart paths are scary dangerous!
Just not a very good course......
Course was not in very good shape for this time of the year...The other courses our group played in the N. Carolina and Sky Valley area were in excellent shape.
Probably would never go back....
Very Nice Course
I was pleasantly surprised at the overall condition of the course for a December round in the mountains. The staff was very helpful and courteous. I've played the course many times and will go back again.
goat trail
Target golf long ways between holes. Lots of elevated tee shots, crazy dangerous cart paths.
This course has great changes in terrain.
We played with a couple who was familiar with the course. It made the course much more enjoyable and greatly helped with club selection. I would recommend first time players to play with someone who knows the course if possible. Several holes are short but good club selection is crucial.
Great Course! Great Prices! You wont be dissapointed.
I played Smokey Mountain with 3 other friends this past Saturday and the course is in great shape, staff was friendly and food and drinks were good also.
I would not hesitate to book a tee time there if your in the area. Course is playable for all level players and is just plain fun.
We will certainly be going back on our next trip to NC.
Great Course and Great Staff
This course is a beautiful course in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. Mountain scenes are breath taking. Elevated tee boxes make for interesting shots. The staff here is outstanding and so helpful. One of my top 5 courses I play every year.
Muountain Course
awesome course what a lay out lot of elevation unique holes number five and nine especially a must play you want regret it
Friendly Staff
beautiful course, lots of elevation changes, new carts in great condition, smooth cart paths, just an overall enjoyable experience.
don't waste your time
this is at best an average course. there is no gps or mobile phone service available in this location. the tee boxes are over grown. there are no hole diagrams. there are no distance markers, except for the red, white and blue ones. if your cart breaks down away from the club house, you have no way to call them.
