A whole new ball game
This is definitely what I would call a unique layout. Some what of a "Mickey Mouse" design in some areas, but it works in a lot of ways. Small greens, short holes. Most 4's are drive-able here if you can carry further than 270 off of the tee. The 5's are a joke as far as length goes, but that plays perfect for money games and chasing eagles. Hit driver wedge into 3 of the 5's and I'm by no means the longest of players (and was playing from the back tees). The elevation change makes for a fun experience when staring down a shot in flight with a 5 second hang time. If you're in the area and like to wager on course, this is the place to come. I'd try to find a sub $50 rate for sure though.
What A Rode
This, to me, is what Mountain Golf should be like, You have some flat land holes, some shots up to elevated greens, others down to greens many feet below the tee box. Some short parts 4s that are reachable. But the most notable thing for me, was the travel between holes, Very scenic views and just a feeling of having the course all to yourself, even though it might be busy. Even though, I golfed here yesterday, it was so enjoyable for me, that I booked another round today. I may make this my course of choice for this area of North Carolina, even though I haven't played them al., But for the money I am more than happy with the quality of the course
Great Mountain golf
Overall a good experience. The fairways were grown in yet, but definitely playable. There were tee boxes under repair, and several more that should have been. Great views and challenging shots. Although the forth hole, with a blind second shot over a cliff, is a little gimmicky. A must if you are looking for mountain golf in Western North Carolina.
Simply Spectacular
I can't remember the last time I've had as much fun on a golf course as I did at Smoky Mountain yesterday. Incredible views, a great array of high elevation shots, excellent greens. It's the type of course I come to the mountains to play. The bermuda fairways were dormant (the staff tells me they get active in late April), but still provided an easy lie to hit off of. A great value for the money in an area known for higher in-season rates. A must play when coming to the Smoky Mountains.
A roller coaster layout.
This course has some amazing views, and was a lot of fun to play. Course layout was exciting, with dramatic views, and several times hitting over a cliff. Greens were decent size & in pretty good shape. Fairways & tees were sketchy, and the cart paths need a lot of work. The paths were some of the steepest & narrowest I have ever seen. Just a light drizzle of rain will make this couse scary to drive on the steep paths.
If you forgive the rough conditions, then this is a "must play", just for the views & variety of ups & downs. I had a great time!!
