The Country Club of Whispering Pines
About The Country Club of Whispering Pines
The Country Club of Whispering Pines falls under the radar of most golfers traveling to Pinehurst. Its 36 holes by Ellis Maples are just minutes from the village. The longer Pines Course is an "inland links", while the River Course requires more accuracy. Guests can stay in condo suites or in a standard hotel-style room with access to a fitness center, tennis courts, outdoor pool and clubhouse with a restaurant and meeting facilities.Facts

Entirely decent course, could be a good value
I played the Whispering Pines River course on a Sunday in September at 10 am. The course was not crowded/overbooked so play moved at a good pace. Although the course is at a "resort" near Pinehurst, don't expect it to knock your socks off. It's a nice course, well-maintained with an average layout. It's one of the easier courses I played all year. I'm not from that area, but I thought it was worth the steeply-discounted price I payed to play it and was satisfied with the experience. If you're looking for a course that's pristine, unique and challenging, you should look elsewhere.
course is challenging but fair. good test of your game.
Whispering woods has two courses. River and Pines. We played the river course. it wasn't the longest but a few holes have shoots to hit out of. Iron accuracy is a premium. length off the tee is not important as where it is.
Tight landing zones, dog legs and small greens characterize this course.
From the tee boxes the fairways look to be ample width, but the landing zones are cut to only a few yards wide in the Bermuda rough; accuracy is a must off the tee box. Several of the holes (especially on the front nine) have very small greens which require an approach shot from the fairway to hold the green. Many of the holes are dog legs so the ideal shot is a shaped shot to a narrow landing zone. While the course does not look long and challenging on the card, it takes good ball control to score well.
Great value.
These two layouts provide all the challenge needed for average players. All holes are well maintained, and the Pro Shop Staff and Groundskeepers are friendly and do their best to provide a great experience. As a local, I really enjoy the opportunity to play these great golf courses for such a reasonable Rate.
Course is OK. A good value, but fairways were a bit ragged, and grass was high in tee boxes.
The price I got was very good, but I was not told they had just aerated the greens. if would have reconsidered if I had known. Pace of play was very slow, there were 2 fivesomes on the course a head of me, and would not let smaller groups play through. Layout/Routing was short, but interesting. Course was in average conditions, fairways were generally OK, but there were some bare spots and ragged lies. Tee boxes were in similar shape.
Great for the price
The River Course is great for the beginner/intermediate level player. On golf now I got out there for 13 dollars and I couldn't ask for much more.
Great Course
Played the River Course. Really enjoyed it...would highly recommend!
Great layout, needs some TLC.
I truly loved the layout of the course. It gave you so many different options to approach each hole. It had great elevation changes, short and long holes. You could hit an iron from many of the tees but they were short enough that you could try to go for it. Some holes required you to shape shots both ways. You had to think your way through this mature course. The fairways and rough were in good shape. The problem is that the greens were super slow and the bunkers were full of leaves, twigs, and many more things. I would love to play this course if it were maintained better.
Great first experience with Golfnow
Great price, Great course, Great Day. Thanks Golfnow and Whispering Pines Golf Club.
Well maintained.
A few holes wouldn't be forgiving for anyone with a slice or hook but overall it's a great course. It was raining off and on when I went along with the greens being punched so I left a bunch of putts a little short.
Great course
We recently played 18 holes (Pines Course) at Whispering Pines and it was wonderful. The course was great and the staff were extremely friendly. I will definitely return again. Bill
Greens are very good.
The River is in better condition, greens and fairways, than the Pines.
Excellent Course
This was the first time I had played whispering pines. We played the pines course and the layout and course conditions were fantastic. Greens were really smooth but soft and slow. I would definitely recommend!!!
Scenic and challenging
The River Course at C.C. of Whispering Pines is tighter and requires more precise shotmaking than the Pines course. It was in good condition, and has several very scenic holes.
Course was very nice and greens very nice
Golf course was nice but staff personnel very short and not accommodating. Would pick other golf courses before returning back here.
Pines Course: very nice experience except for the slow, bumpy greens.
I played the Pines Course because the River course was very soggy, with standing water.
I enjoyed the Pines - a pretty course, not overly challenging as the fairways are generously wide. A couple of the par 5s are very challenging.
The only criticism I have is with the greens: they were slow and bumpy (perhaps due to the rain), and did not do the rest of the course justice.
Whispering Pines Very Friendly and Inviting
Very easy to get settled in , David in the pro shop was top notch !!! David was the most inviting pro shop person I've ever met !!!
Very nice course & great value
Had to change the day I was supposed to play and thought I would have to "eat" the green fee. Called Paula in the pro shop and she gladly changed my time to the following day and when I arrived early, she let me start 1:15 minutes prior to my scheduled time. Now, that's service!!! The course in in great shape and challenging, yet fair, even for a 15 handicapper. What a peaceful setting for an afternoon of golf.
Be sure to stop in the bar/restaurant & ask Lacy to show you some bar tricks.
Highly recommend this course for friendly service, playabililty and value for $$$ spent.
Great condition. Best I've seen in years for this course.
We really enjoyed the course. We got a great deal, plus the course was in excellent shape. We will continue to use golfnow.com and go back to W. Pines.
Very nice course for the cost.
As the proprietor of a B&B, I often send my guests to CCWP because of the good course conditions. The fact that there are two courses allows golfers to pay a small fare for a replay on the other course.
